A couple people keep asking about the Barnes Tac XPD .40 140gr load for their short barreled pistols.
Lucky Gunner did a massive ballistic test (which is worth the time to review overall) which included the load in question from a G27.
.40 S&W Ballistic Gelatin Tests
Its at the very top of the list.
Here's a link to the top of the page for those interested in more.
They plan on doing more tests including for revolver calibers in the future, I posted a comment about the dilemma were having with the Remington HTP version of the .38 special FBI load and got a direct reply from the moderator saying as much, hopefully soon we can begin to get some idea of whether or not that load is worth it still for snubnose revolvers.
As to the Barnes Tac 140gr .40; its not bad, IMHO its a compromise load that gives acceptable performance and reduced recoil for subcompact .40's, which helps in faster follow up shots.
Its certainly not a bad choice, performing on a par with loads much heavier from the short barrel, but that seems to be par for the course with the all copper Barnes bullet no matter who its loaded by- I don't think I've ever seen a test done where I'm not personally impressed.
Anyway, check the tests out they did a pretty good job, alot of new data to peruse for those interested in the finer aspects of defensive handgun ammo performance.
