Default 22LR coming back???

Went to a local gun show yesterday. Small show, they say 100 tables. I would estimate 25 tables had .22LR for sale. And I mean LOTS of it. There were bricks of every major variety available. There were the Remington 'Bucket of Bullets' available, I haven't seen them in a long time. All the MiniMags you could want. None of it was flying off the tables. I suspect we have nearly reached the saturation point, supply and demand finally kicking in. I have plenty but would consider adding, but the price points have to be lower. 500 round bricks were $45, more or less. That might work when there is no supply, but it looks to me like it is coming back. I hope the hoarders/flippers are taking a bath.

I'm not sure as the local Bass Pro is still keeping any 22LR they have behind the counter to control sales. Last week they allowed two bricks per customer where as before its always been one per when they had any in stock. This was the first I'd seen there in several weeks. Between them and a nearby Dicks I've been able to keep some in supply during the 'drought'.
A little off the topic but noticed the Bass Pro had a better selection of reloading powders than usual.

Interesting. I never saw 22LR not available at the gun shows for steep prices compared to retail. And I attributed that to those re-sellers being the so and so's who stand in line and buy it at retail only to add a hefty chunk to make a profit.

Never have bought from them at a gun show but actually, I have seen it much more frequently in the retail stores like Gander Mountain and Cabela's. The price has definitely risen and I suspect that is why I see it more often since the scalpers can't make as much. Cabela's tends to have the best availability and I don't live where there is much else around.

Only online place I have bought at is Midway and they don't seem to have much these days. And their high shipping combined with limiting to just one brick puts them at the bottom of the online choices. I suspect many can chime in with plenty of places to find it online at good prices with reasonable shipping.

Our sporting goods stores have 22 ammo but not at a price that I want to pay. When it sinks in and they have a "Special" I may toss some money out at the register............. maybe.

Spent the day out and about and made it to Gander and Cabela's. Gander only had a plentiful supply of Federal Auto Match at their usual price of $24.99 for 325. Cabela's had plenty of the same for $21.99 along with plenty of other types. And well below the gun show folks although higher than just a year ago (if you could find it). But so it goes.

I do not shoot that much 22lr, but I was able to keep 22lr in supply by way of Gander Mt. and Cabela's. Both had it for sale often enough at a reasonable price (reasonable given the times) and with ship free to store, I did alright. I wouldn't say it's back though as I never see it at Walmart and it's still pretty expensive.

My experience is much like yours. Cabela's usually has something in .22 LR to sell even if it isn't your first or second or third choice. But Walmart is another matter. I was just there again today and... nothing.

I hope 22LR become plentiful again and all those who hoarded 50 too 100K rounds take a bath. Serves them right.

Seems like the 22's are indeed becoming more readily available however the price is still way too high & while it may still come down a bit, the days of $12 - $17 / Brick price will never return IMHO. I HOPE I AM WRONG!

Yeah, while I didn't need any, there was plenty of FAM at the show yesterday, priced from $28.00 to $35.00, didn't see any walking out the door though.

Bought a couple of 333 packs of Winchester at Walmart a few weeks ago priced at $14.97 or something like that. Just under .05/round.

You never know. I never thought I would see gas for $1.45 a gallon again.

My view here in central Iowa is .22 is slowly coming back. But we definitely have hard-core gougers/resellers who clean out Walmart and Sportmens ASAP. The stores just don't care who buys it or they're in cahoots with the gougers.

I think the gougers are holding out hoping Hillary gets elected and causes a new panic. I fervently hope they eat their ammo!

Here in the North DFW area I still can't find .22 ammo at a Walmart, and $5 per 50 is the minimum going rate on anything in stock in quantity.

I was at the local Cabela's the end of last week. Both 22s and powder were more plentiful than I have seen for over 5 years. 22s tended to be Federal Auto Match for about $ 22, and the powders were running $24 to $35 a pound. US made primers were running about $30-60 a brick.

I saw 231 for the first time in about 7 years, and 7828 seemed plentiful. Just need to find Varget and 2520, and I will be a happy camper!

22 L R has NEVER been in short supply. However there have been untold millions(perhaps billions) of rounds hoarded away by people who believe this. As it becomes readily available on the shelf's again a lot of people will start using up their existing stash decreasing demand. As demand for new 22s goes down and the supply goes up good old capitalistic economics will take hold and the price will drop back to reasonable levels.

I will believe that 22 rimfire is back when I see CCI and Aguila bricks for sale. Until then I will just continue to dip into my stash.

22 is coming back. We still have to limit bricks because of the neck beards, but we have it on the shelf. As with all things, prices have gone up a little. Powder can still be hit or miss. I was so happy to see Universal return! Varget can be had usually. Some primers can be hard to find. All of this may change the closer we get to election time.

Well I cannot speak about gougers from first hand knowledge but if the sellers of all this ammo are paying 3 times what it went for a couple years or so back, and have the funds to buy a case of Federal 325 packs for $250.00 you cannot expect them to give it away now can you. All this talk about gougers reminds me of all the LGS dealers who cried to high heaven about the home FFL's running them out of business. The little guys were willing to order you anything available, while the shop dealers and there were many around here, were not. They only wanted to sell what they had in stock. Many of such dealers are now gone-- I cannot think of more than one of the old time gun shops within any given hundreds of miles. He is a REAL gunsmith, and is busy beyond belief. People still cry about the prices-- they seem to forget he has to pay the same prices for gas & groceries that everyone does. Yeah, he charged me 20 bucks to make a screw I needed-- he dropped everything to do so. Was it worth it? You bet!! I am thinking there are too many people who have forgotten, if you want to get there you have to pay the fare. I for one think the whining about ammo prices is wearing a bit thin. SO you are going to reload?? Well prices there are up as well. JMO of course.

I saw both this weekend at the Canton gun show, multiple sellers. Prices were $35/brick and up. Some asking $80. That was for 500 round bricks. I saw MiniMags for $8/100. Aguila Quiet for $45/brick. I saw Winchester Super-X, but the guy wanted $15/100, about twice what I would even consider. Its probably still available. None of it was flying off the tables...

Still too many hoarding going on. Will probably continue. Afraid to think of what will happen after next election.
