Perfecta ammo deleted at Walmart
I wandered in to the Walmart in Aberdeen,NC today hoping to find a couple of boxes of Perfecta 38 special and did not see any Perfecta of any description on the shelves. I asked the clerk when some might be in and he said it had been deleted from inventory. He pointed his pricing gun at several Perfecta tags and they all said deleted. He said it looked like Walmart would no longer stock Perfecta. I sure hate to hear that because I have sent a lot of it down range in the last couple of years. It was always 4 or 5 dollars cheaper than any other brass cased ammo and I never had a problem with any of it. Does anyone know what is going on with this ammo?

They clearanced it out of the DFW stores as the related distribution centers ran out. One center "found" a lot more in a warehouse, so it came back to some stores, where there is still some .223 and .380 floating around.
My manager friend says that it is no longer coming from the supplier, and that they are removing the tags as they run out. The timing varies, as it depends on what the different distribution warehouses have left.
Sad to see it go. It is being replaced by a new packaging of Federal, at a much higher price.
If you do see some in calibers you shoot, this trip is the one. Next week may be too late.
The same is happening with the Remington UMC .357 125g in 50/100 boxes. I was getting 100 rounds of SJHP for $15 there for a couple of weeks. For the stores that still have it in the warehouse, it is still $63. But it will soon be gone.
It looks like all the WalMarts in my travel area (ArkLaTex) are cutting back the ammo stocks as they are moving to a new store floorplan that puts all the ammo behind a counter.

You are saying that you paid approx $7.50 for 50 rounds of .357?
I haven't seen prices like that in a very long time for factory ammo.

Except for a little bit of 12 and 20 ga shotgun ammo, my local Walmart doesn't carry ammo. I heard from one of the workers there, they soon will not even carry the shotgun ammo. And this is in small town rural Texas. Go figure.

Just buy 38 online and you will save money. $11.50 shipped per 50 brass case is common

I also hate to hear about this. The perfecta ammo was cheaper and I never had any problems with it either.

It was good ammo that was made in Italy and priced right. If the American manufacturers could compete with the pricing I'd buy a lot more Federal but I don't. Academy and Cabela's have been carrying Eastern European ammo (Monarch and Herrets) that is good quality and priced really well too if you're looking for a replacement.

Yeah, that really sucks. I never had any problem with it and it was easy to just pick up a few boxes if I needed it.
Oh well, now I'll have no reason to go to Wall Mart!

That is correct. They were trying to get rid of the stock and do the new shelf layouts.

By next January, in CA there is supposed to be a new system in place that does a background check to sell ammo.
I expect all stores to put the ammo behind a counter.
I'm just hoping Walmart won't just quit selling ammo altogether.
This is the year for Californians to stock up.

Perfecta discontinued
Thanks for the update on Perfecta. I had been stocking up on 357mag, 38 specials and 9mm a few months ago. Before it dried up a lot hit the shelves. Last couple of months the 9mm was first to disappear, then the 357 and 38specials. Last few trips to Walmart came up empty and now I know why. Was getting 357 for $16.92, 9mm for $9.78. Nice while it lasted.

Academy had wwb for $23 shipped per 100 a couple weeks ago. Freedom munitions has new manufactured 38 for $11-12 per 50 with free shipping when they have sales. Sportsmansguide has different brands on sale for $11-12 every few weeks with free shipping.
If you do your research you will save

Sportsmansguide has 357 for $15-17 quite often with free shipping and 9mm for $9.49-9.99 almost daily and both caliber date brass cased. Steel cased choices are even less

I noticed that yesterday when I was in the Wal-Mart in Uvalde TX there was NO Perfecta ammo on the shelves. And in this location, they generally carried a good supply. But I didn't ask why. I have to wonder what happened?

Last week, I visited the local WM for the first time in several weeks and picked up the only 2 boxes of Perfecta .357. They also had 100rd packs of R-P .38 125gr +P JHP for $39 and change. Also W-W 125gr .38 +P white box. I haven't seen these .38 loads in WM for literally years. The light skeet/trap/upland SG loads that had been on the open shelves are now under lock and key. Previously, only the heavier SG loads had been secured.
As to online shopping, my local LGS has 1000 rd cases of range ammo in 9, .45, .380, .223, 7.62x39 at bulk prices. Don't LGSs in other locations do this?
Kaaskop49
Shield #5103
P.S. Today (4-2) at WM, the only Perfecta was .380. The reply I got as to the .357 Perfecta ammo was "sold out."

I'm not in a small town or area .. WM here only has a few boxes of shot gun ammo and sometimes 22 nothing else .. and no guns .. the store cater more to the food side and clothes then sporting goods ..
The MC Sport store is closing in town next to me .. prices weren't very good on the few guns they had supposedly 25 % off .. no ammo .. had a lot of none gun sport stuff ..

In our wally world most of the shot shells are on racks and all the rifle and pistol ammo you have to go to the auto department and page the guy with the keys for ammo. For awhile they didn't have any WWB in 9mm but plenty of 40S&W and 45acp as well as 38 special. Haven't seen any brand of 357 magnum on their shelves. Frank

My WalMart manager friend said that the factory (in Italy) had some new NATO contracts due to the current conflicts, and was unwilling to continue to sell at the kinds of prices (discounts) and volumes the WalMart buyers demand. It was spotty supply to begin with.
The only thing remaining on the shelf in the Dallas / Plano area is some .45ACP and .223, but they won't last long.

I'm calling BS on what that manager said. Perfecta is made by Fiochi and Fiochi is available all day every day in as large a supply as you want online for less than $10 a box shipped. So they can't make enough for Walmart but they can make a surplus for online sales that isn't even selling very well?

I'm not optomistic although I reload most everything but x39 and rimfire. The process appears that it will take more than your average Wally's employee can handle.

I went to the nearby WM yesterday PM. No Perfecta at all on the shelves. The drone employee working that area knew nothing about why not.

The guy I know is retired military spec ops, working just to stay out of the house, and not prone to BS, so I'll ignore that. But the Perfecta is coming out of the plant in Italy, not the US side.
I've known a WalMart / Sam's buyer for years, and to hear the pressure and pricing they demand is scary. She tells of many suppliers just walking away because they didn't care for the micro-management of the contracts and deliveries - better to sell somewhere else with fewer costs / headaches.

I made it over to my Walmart today. They had nine boxes of 45 ACP for $15.44. I bought them all. No other calibers on the shelf. I asked the checker who is a regular and he had not heard about an end to Perfecta. Earlier in the day they put out a shipment that came in of other calibers. He said 9mm always first sold out.

$15.44 is not a deal for brass 45, just saying
I don't have a 45 but the prices I've watched $13.50 per 50 shipped is the norm for brass cased and it can be had for $11.50 per 50 shipped if you watch sales

Yeah but I bet he didn't have to wait a week or more to get it either. I can run down to WM, pick up US ammo and be in the field or on the range in an hour or less. I picked up two 100 round boxes of Federal .223/55gr. for $37@ last week.
I don't particularly like burning cheap foreign ammo in my guns so I'm certainly not going to stockpile it. But hey, everybody has an opinion and it's your gun and your dollar.

At a local Walmart yesterday I saw Perfecta .357,40S&W,223 and 30.06
I asked the Sporting Goods manager about the discontinuance of Perfecta and he said that he did not receive any official word from corporate headquarters stating a stop so he keeps ordering more.
He did say that he has not gotten any Perfecta 9mm in a few months but got some 40S&W last week.

I was out at my closest WM yesterday. The girl who manages sporting goods is clueless about most things, but she does keep up with the ammo case to fend off the folks who buy to resell at gunshows.
They had a few boxes of Perfecta .380 and .308 that all looked like they had been stored out in a field. Asked her about them, and she said that they just showed up off an old unfilled order. She wasn't happy, as the inventory folks had sent her a new shelf layout that had no place for them. We looked at the warehouse schedule, and Perfecta is gone from their order list. I suspect it just depends on the distribution center. If they find some in a corner, they will send it.
She did say that if all the orders she had placed, which had never been filled, were to arrive, she would have ammo for our lifetimes.

I agree not the best deal but an easy painless purchase. All of the other 45 ACP was more expensive. I like the Perfecta as it is clean burning at least in 45 and 9mm. Prices for online sales are definitely coming down. I reload for all of my revolvers and plan on starting 45 ACP at some point? My whole point of the post was that Perfecta was available and still coming in.

To all that suggest we just buy ammo on-line, a lot of us used to but our state legislatures are banning that.
We can't buy ammo online in NY unless it is sent to a licensed ammo seller. In the future there will be background checks done on ammo sales.
My anti-gun coworkers actually talk about banning more then 50 rounds of ammo in the home. This is what they say is done in some countries.
Some say if you can't ban guns you can limit ammo drastically.
This is a bigger threat than you think. Our local walmart has ALL firearm ammo and accessories including even a hand clay pigeon thrower behind locked glass cabinets. Even knives, tactical flashlights and holsters are locked up. ANYTHING gun related.
You don't realize how much could change fast... In 10 years we went from having capguns pulled from walmart to this.

Dang, it looks like my favorite source of inexpensive .357 has dried up. I should have bought those six boxes of Perfecta when I saw them in the case a couple weeks ago!

Was at the local WM this morning. Not a single box of Perfecta to be seen in any size in the ammo cabinet.

There is a Wal-Mart in Webster, TX (south of Houston) where they must send all the stuff that they take out of the other stores.

I heard many rumors during the last year that Walmart wasn't going to carry 22LR anymore either, but today I saw five 300 rounds boxes of CCI so I picked up two. I asked the cashier if they were discontinuing Perfecta and her response was no one knows but they did get a shipment in just two weeks ago but it was all sold.

When it first came on the scene, we must have been the test market. They temporarily had rollback pricing of $5.97 a box for 9mm. Their .223 was $9.97 a box. People didn't get too excited until they realized that price was for 50rds of .223, not 20rds.
Now that it is gone, I'm mad I only bought 1000rds of each.
I'm in the metro Baltimore MD area and all ammo in Maryland is locked in cases. A guy on MDShooters pointed out that any Walmart near public transportation routes doesn't sell firearms. I thought about it and damn if he wasn't correct.

Walmart squeezes suppliers to the point of bankruptcy. I'm sure they tried to strong arm Fiochi for price concessions.

Indeed they do. I have understood that both Wal-Mart and its sister organization Sam's Club essentially require some of their suppliers to consign merchandise to them for sale, letting the suppliers finance W-M and Sam's Club inventories. Suppliers don't get paid until the product is sold to a customer. Now that's a sweet deal.

...And people ask me why I don't go back to NY to visit! I'm repeating myself, but if I can buy ammo "painlessly," as a savvy poster said above, I would do so. Try buying a box of ammo and have it entered into a log. That's 'box,' not 'case.' This is what shooters in more "enlightened" areas are forced to do.
And, BTW, I'm finding anti-gun vibes here in the valley. What poster Practical wrote above bears re-reading. And remembering.

Squeezing suppliers.....
is an old and familiar game. As a retired business person, I recall vividly many stories from suppliers to Sears. Sears knew full well they were extremely important to their suppliers and squeezed many of them to death. Walmart is just doing what Sears perfected.
As soon as I heard stories about Perfecta and Walmart, I assumed Walmart demanded lower prices and/or Perfecta said they demanded higher prices. Apparently Perfecta had better options.
Walmart is waking up to the threat of online shopping(retail bankruptcies are daily occurences). Walmart is also very sensitive to local pressure against guns/ammo. They stopped selling ammo at a store in Ames Iowa 20 years ago after a teenager bought ammo and committed suicide. I once bought a Ruger 10/22 at Walmart and the hassle was ridiculous. I've never even tried to buy at Walmart since.
These new ammo laws in NY and CA are designed to discourage buyers AND sellers. Create enough hassle and retailers will opt out of the business. Just a long, slow squeeze toward the end game. Good news/bad news....I'll be dead before they get it done.

I was in the new BASS PRO in Daytona beach and they now carry Perfecta ammo and it costs more than it did at Wally World. I was getting .357 for $16.....no more.
