38J Special +P

The tubular bullets are intended to cut a wad of tissue leaving an open wound channel to bleed freely. Supposed to work like a shotgun or patch cutting "wad punch". The light weight would shed velocity rapidly though.

Seem to recall a gun mag article on them when first introduced.
Don't think they were a big seller.

The bullet was a tube with a wad at the base , it was supposed to act like a "cookie cutter" and cut full caliber holes but in actual use the holes would plug up , 66 grains didn't give much penetration either.

Get this , 1 round sells for $4.75 over at ammo dot com ! Supply is very limited
How many ya got in that box ...they may be worth something .

Want a cookie cutter? Why not wadcutters--maybe hollow-based wadcutters reversed? I'll stick with +P 158 grain LSWCHP or +P 125 grain Golden Saber.

I can see a 66 grain tubular projectile stopping a threat in half an hour or so due to a slow leak, unless said bullet lucked up and got to the aorta or femoral artery.

That is a flying ashtray for sure! I’ve never encountered hollow points that, well, hollow.

Once you get a look at a bullet out of the case...
It gives a whole new meaning to the term .....
"Totally Tubular"

Even with a base wad , that in theory fell away, I never quite understood how this was going to work.
In my mind it didn't even work on paper ....but what do I know !

Been target shooting 148 gr. wad cutters for years in my 4th Change Model of 1905. They punch a perfect circle through a paper target. I think these would too.
