You got to try. Ever since I made my first few 38 special rounds and shot them through my 28-2 I was hooked and have never ever bought a single box of ammo ever again. You will quickly find that accuracy can be greatly increased, wear on the gun greatly reduced, cost of course a lot less too when talking about e.g. 41 etc. Also, you can make some rounds in 1/2 hour before you go, never to stress where to get the ammo from. Then you can also show up at a steel shoot with 600 rounds no problem. Takes 1.5h to make, quicker than driving to and from Cabelas for me.

The most of anything that I brought home at one time was 2700 rounds of 7.62x51 NATO.
Everything else I just buy a few hundred at a time.

I do appreciate you post.
I'm not a good enough shot to be able to tell you if one load is any more accurate than the next. That and I really don't shoot a lot.
I had the chance to get all I needed for reloading equipment for next to nothing and passed on the deal.
A good friend has loaded about 600 .41 mag rounds for me and some .44 mag. He loves reloading so I let him do it for me.
He loaded and gave me another 200 rounds of .41 mag for Christmas.
I do understand why soo may people reload but its just not something that has ever interested me.

My situation exactly.
Tens of thousands of rounds 22lr.
Thousands of 9mm.
Next would be 45ACP
Followed by 5.56
My favorites are 357mag/38spl and 44mag/44spl
I enjoy shooting them so much I can't seem to build much of a stockpile!

Well theoretically my descending order would be:
.22lr
.223/5.56
.44 mag
.38spcl
.40cal
.357mag
.22wmr
.30/.30
9mm
.308
.45lc
.45acp
12ga
But in reality I live in California so I only grab a few .22 bb caps every few months and shoot them up as soon as I get them.

I load at least 20 different calibers and keep at least 500 rounds minimum of all of them loaded and usually have a few thousand of each in empty cases . That does not include .410, 28 ga, 20 ga , 16 ga and 12 ga in 2 1/2, 2 5/8 , and 2 3/4 " versions of each . I usually have 2 cases of each loaded . Don't keep much rimfire anymore but I probably got around 5000 rounds of various LR loadings . That's about as close as I can get without doing an actual inventory .Killed a small buck Thursday so my .358 Winchester 180 gr stock is down 1 round !

Ammo in hand
I have several cases of CCI 22 LR ammo followed by 9 MM ammo, then 223, then various types of 12 and 20 ga shotgun shells followed by 308, then 38 special. I have 7 grand kids so we do shoot a lot of 22 rounds

I have tens of thousands of both 22 LR and 223/556. Besides those, it’s 38/357.
I like to be prepared.

.303 British, mostly Radway Green from the mid-Fifties. Got whole bunch, cheap, maybe twenty years ago. Had good reason.

Back during the 22 shortage a few years ago, I went on a quest to make sure I had plenty of the most useful ammo I could think of, but overshot the mark and probably have more RF than I’ll live to shoot... my nieces and nephews will probably enjoy it though.
Since I reload for most CF rounds I shoot, I generally don’t keep a standing supply of most of these, but since I got factory 9mm and 30-06 at very favorable rates, I do keep goodly supplies of these.
The only shotgun I currently load for is 20 gauge, so I try to keep a modest supply of 12 ga and 410 bore on hand, but since I’m not that much of a shotgunner, a couple of hundred rounds of any of these is plenty.

20K - 22LR
14+K - 308
10+K - 9mm
9+K - 5.56
Approx. 8K - 30-06, 7.62x39
Approx 5K - 6.8 SPC, 45 acp, 40 S&W
Approx. 4K - 5.7x28
For the past 30-40 yrs, I have made it a practice to buy ammo by the case when prices have gone down, like right now. Has really paid off during those periods of short ammo availability and skyrocketing prices.

I reload and cast bullets so my ammo supply is cheap. 22 LR is the most, after that its at least 3K of 38 spl, 45 acp, 40 S&W, 9 MM, 357 mag, and 44 mag (about 1,500). I've got some 25-06, 308, and 30-06, but have 5K of 223 in buckets.

I’m not sure if you mean ammo or guns.
If ammo it’s 22LR by a long shot. (No pun intended.)
If guns it’s 38/357. Ammo for them is in second place, but it’s about all I shoot now.

Tons of 9mm......
I shoot the most of 9mm every time I go out. Pistols and carbine.
Keep ammo for my SKS and Mosin
.22 ammo for my Henry.
.38 ammo for my mod 36 and 38 and some .357 for my 686.
Keeps some 30-06 around but haven't been shooting that is much.
I shoot a lot of reduced loads in rifles. I've made some .223 for a friend.

I have more 22 LR ammo on hand simply because it's cheap, but I usually end up shooting more 9 mm when we go to the range.

Other than 22LR probably 7.62x54R. When I start thinking I know how much ammo I have of a given caliber I typically start looking for sales to restock. When I reload pistol ammo it's usually in batches of 500 or 1000. I dislike changing dies on my Dillon 450 that much.

.22 LR
.45 ACP
12 ga.
16 ga. (probably close to a tie on the shotshells)
.280 Remington (only because after loading up a bunch I kept stumbling on loaded ammo at less than virgin brass prices)

22lr. Still shooting ammo I bought in the 80s. Had plenty during the "Obama" shortage. When that ended I took advantage of sales and close outs as the suppliers sold off all of the back orders at decent prices.
Followed by M2 ball (30-06) most bought back in the late 90s and early 2000s, when I thought I was going to shoot my Garands and 03s a couple hundred rounds a month - forever!
I have always tried to keep as many rounds of factory ammo as I could afford. That number went up as I became more affluent. I have come to the point where I don't buy much ammo except for the addition of new calibers when a new unit is added to the herd. If I live to be twice my age now, I will never shoot all the ammo I have on hand. At some point in the future, someone will go down into the mancave, look around and say: "What in the Hell was he thinking!"

I got caught empty handed during the shortage and decided I would be prepared if it ever happened again. I bought 2 cases of mini mags as soon as they became available and every week since I’ve picked up 200 rounds (plus whatever I’ll use that week) while shopping at Walmart. It adds up. I now have 42000 rounds of mini mags. My wife says I need professional help. She’s probably right.
22lr= 42000
9mm= 8000
5.56 = 4000
.380 = 800

.22 LR by far - around 15K rounds
9mm and .223 about 4k each
.380 - about 1000
.40 - a few hundred
.45 - a few hundred
.38 sp - a few hundred
12 ga. - about a case
20 ga. - about two cases
I was buying .22 every time I saw it for a couple years when the supply was short because my son loved to shoot it. At one time I was over 20,000 rounds on hand. Now I think I have enough to last me awhile. I'll probably let it run down to around 5000-7500 before I start buying again. I do still pick up a brick or two if I see it locally at a very low price, but I'm not actively seeking it out.
Edit - I forgot the .22 mag - around 1500 rounds of that on hand.

Let's see, here are the one ones that I keep on hand in bulk, in descending order:
5.56x45
7.62x39
.22 LR
9mm para
.38 Special
7.62x51
.30 Carbine
.30-06
.45 ACP
.45 Colt
.357 Magnum
9mmx18
These are the only ones in quantity. Other calibers, like .303, .45-70, .300 Savage, .32 ACP, .22 Magnum, etc., might have several hundred rounds each.

At least 10 cases of 22LR..About 25 cases of 20 ga and then it is a toss up tween .223 and 45 Auto. Maybe 5000 of each. Couple thousand 9mm and going to buy more this week, Cabela's sale. Mainly for trade .... 44s are in good fettle(1500) as well as 38/357 and then the rest bring up the rear with about a 1000 each in handgun and 300 each in hunting rifle calibers but plenty of brass present too. I do need to buy some more primers though as I am down to under 16000 total. I have quit buying 22s though

Easy, it is the only cartridge that I do not hand load . . . . 22LR
In SubSonic alone I must have close to 20,000 rounds from various manufacturers so that I can test suppressor/auto-loader reliability
I know I have over 4,000 of the Aguilla Super Colibri on hand since that is what I start all novice (and apprehensive) shooters with
And who knows how much plinking 22LR is on hand. Whenever it goes on sale, I just buy another case
As to the Centerfire cartridges, I do not keep lots of ammo on hand, but I do have LOTS of components on hand. This rack (and the floor in front of it) is handgun projectiles waiting to be loaded

9mm and .40S&W are my primary CC guns so that’s what I have most in, .380 and .45acp are 500 + each, lastly .45C a couple of 50 round boxes of Buffalo Bore.
I don’t shoot rimfire anymore so I’ve been sitting on 1k of mini-mags for years.
Need to add more 556/223 this summer.

For the last 15 years or so, I have made it a point to keep a 3 year reserve of ammo and/or reloading components for every caliber I own. That means I may have enough to be able to shoot 200 rounds or so of 6.5x55 Sweed/ 30 carbine, 6000 ea rounds of 9mm/45acp/38 spl, 1500 rounds of .223 ( and so on for 8 other calibers)
This has worked very well for me and allows me to continue my hobby without worry of what the rest of the world is doing. ( I'm not worring about the end of civilization here) As for .22 lr, I'm likey at the 10 yr mark as I've layed in 40,000 rounds in the last two years while it was cheap!

Hands down, it would be bulk packed 22 LR, but oddly enough, my #2 largest supply for handguns is 32 S&W Long.
