CCI Stinger ammo
Was at the LGS yesterday and came across this ammo that has Plinksters name on it. 1640 FPS ! Bought a box of 100, $14.99, and will give them a try. Watched Plinksters video on YouTube and the difference over SV is very pronounced. Might make the 43C a more formidable CC piece. Any one else tried it ?

Yes. It is good ammunition, especially in Semi-Autos. As precision goes its not the best, its not in the same league as your match .22 offerings. It may not chamber in every firearm due to the slightly longer case. It is high quality though and very reliable.

Lent a buddy my 10/22 with a Volquartsen tensioned carbon fiber barrel to get rid of a couple of muscrats that were undermining his pond bank. He bought a box of stingers and complained what a piece of **** my gun was. Stingers and match chambers don't get along. The CCI HV HPs I gave him with the gun, and did the job just fine

The ammo labeled "Stanger" is 100% identical to Stingers. They just relabeled some boxes because he's a prominent .22LR YouTube "influencer" and he pronounces it that way. He even has a video that states exactly this.

I've compared various rounds for accuracy with my Ruger Standard, and Stingers/Stangers have always come out on top. Cool muzzle flash, too.

The "Stangers" work fine and are very accurate in my MKII and my 617-10. My Wrangler and Single-Six can barely hit the barn from inside. Go figure

The Stinger is not new, they been out over 30yrs. As for accuracy it depends on the individual gun they aren’t magic. They do crank the killing power of 22lr a bit. Back when every company had their Hyper 22lrs out Stinger wasnt the hottest. The Winchester Accelerator was top of the heap.
Rem had the Yellow Jacket and Federal the SpitFire. At this time the Plinkster was still in short pants.
* note, you shouldn’t fire stingers in a lot of older 22s. Particularly because they weren’t engineered to take the pressure and on semi autos the recoil stroke. You can go metal to metal at minimum and maybe worse. Old single shots of Favorite type with worn extractors can cause rim blow outs.

Great accuracy from Stingers ? I eagerly tried them when they were introduced in 1977, they blew the bejeezus out of a rabbit, but accurate they weren't. They were the worst accuracy of every type of .22 ammo I shot then.
I admit I haven't tried any since maybe 1982, perhaps they've improved them since.
I did get great accuracy out of those Remington Yellow Jackets, and they were pretty explosive too. I shot around 5 bricks at Montana ground squirrels over a couple summers, then couldn't seem to find more to replace them.

I shoot a lot of Stingers from my 15-22 and the accuracy is OK to shoot cans or clay targets thrown up on the berm.
But the CCI Velocitor is the butt kicker IMO, almost as fast with a 40 grain HP instead of a 32 grain HP. It's also more accurate, at least in my gun.

From one Okie to another that has the southern twang;
Stingers = Stangers
Summers = a place; i.e., I left ma hat here summers
Fangers = a part of the hand. I.e. I have five fangers on my left hand but only four fangers on ma right after I blowed it off.

Found some at Cabela’s, a little high at $16.95 but three boxes didn’t break the bank. I guess the normal crowd at Cabela’s didn’t know what they were so there were (was?) probably 50 100-rd boxes there when I arrived. Stingers have been 100% reliable for me, in any pistol or revolver, for way more than 20 years.

I've been happy with Stingers.
We have a Javelina Highway on our property, day and night, and when I take my dog out at night, it's with a flashlight and a LCR .22 loaded with Stingers. We've encountered a few and had been charged. Happened one night with a 50 lb male who came at us. One shot with a Stinger, he turned quickly away and wandered off. Next morning I found the body about 15 yards away.
I'm OK with them.

I'll take a pass on the You-Tube Cowboy Special " Stanger" Ammo .
Just keep "Stingers" coming down the pipe line and onto my dealer's shelves at a reasonable cost .
Stangers ... we don't need no stinking stangers !

If Stingers are “Stangers”, shouldn’t Plinkster be “Plankster”?

"Stangers" are just relabeled Stingers with Dave's picture on the label. Cool if you want to display and save a box for a collection but I doubt will ever be worth much more. The Nickel cases are cool if you want to keep them in a belt loop rig for extended periods - they won't collect Verdigris.
My preference when going for the hardest hitting .22 LR are the 40 grain Velocitors. While their velocity is lower, their weight is 25% greater - that's a lot when we are talking 32 grains of the Stanger/Stingers.

Well for one, CCI's ammo is surely more reliable than Remington's is. As far as effectiveness goes, it probably depends on what camp you're in. Personally, I'd rather have a bullet that weighs 40 grains going at 1435 fps than a 32 grain going 200 ft/sec faster. Some may feel better about a lighter and faster bullet.

In my Marlin semi-auto rifle with a 4x scope w/sand bag ;
Yellow Jacket 33gr at 1498fps ...... 50 yds gave 4 @ 1.23"
Stinger 32gr at 1640fps............. 100 yds did 5 @ .98" .91 ft/lbs
Velositer 40gr at 1435fps............ 100 yds did 5 @ .98" 1.04 ft/lbs
the 1200fps stuff will work for killing paper and wabbits.

There are some numbers wrong here. .91 ft/lbs?? 1.04 ft/lbs??
32 grains @1640 is 191 ft/lbs
40 grains @1435 is 183 ft/lbs
Or do those numbers have some other meaning??

I have only dispatched one critter with a CCI Stinger. Was probably around 1992 or 1993. I shot a rabbit in the back yard with the stinger, he jumped straight up about 5' then fell over dead. Picked him up and looked good on the entrance side. On the exit side, his entire chest cavity was blown out. Quite effective me thinks.

Stangers, that is what a kid with a speech problem would say. My nephew couldn't say thing when he was maybe 3 or 4, so he said where is that "stang", meaning thing. He also said he wanted to go to the "huh, huh how" meaning Huddle House. He grew out of it though...and now pronounces words properly like other adults.

Still confused. .91ft/lbs maybe at 500 yards, but at 100, it isn't going to be that low. Did you mean 91 ft/lbs?

I’ve got a few hundred rounds of strangers stashed away from the last 22 shortage. The last time I remember shooting some was rabbit hunting in the late 70s. Shot a cottontail at 20 yards and purtneer blew his head to smithereens! Haven’t used them since lol

I know some guys who use to poach Bullfrogs with Winchester Expediters.
They called them Toad Loads because when they hit a Bull Frog it left nothing but lips and legs.
I’m from hills and we can pronounce stinger. Anybody that can’t is an azol.

That Marlin semi auto has to be a record holder to put 10 shots from 2 different kinds of ammo at under an inch at 100 yards. Model 60?

I've killed half a dozen coyotes with my 10/22 using Stingers. I find them accurate enough.

That or some people just shoot a little better than others.
Heads or tails.

Just to stir the pot, I used a Stinger fired from a 6" barreled Colt Woodsman to finish off a doe mule deer. Broadside head shot at mere feet away. The bullet failed to exit the small does head and was found as shrapnel under the skin on opposite side of head.

Shot many a frog with my brother as my father drove the jeep down a levie with water in it and our trusty german Wiemeraner
dog that would jump out and reteive the frog, on the bank or in the water !!
Best spot was the round circle on the side of their head , or just under their chin, if they were looking at you.
However on one trip one of the gentlemen in the back of the jeep with us kids.............
almost had a heart attack when our dog jumped out of the jeep
and jumped back in with a five foot water snake !!
Ah, the good old days.

S&W should go after the "Stanger" users market by making special editions of their .22lr guns marked as "Smath & Wasson".

Love Stingers. One of the owners of CCI a neighbor at our vacation place and gave me a box to try, kind of a pre production prototype affair. I used them in a 9422 which was my 11th birthday present, so '76 I figure.I was very impressed! They hit the market shortly thereafter. Definitely my ammo of choice for using on critters thereafter (when I could afford them).
Later I bought a 2214 to pack on the farm and wanted the extra pop of the Stingers. I remember it not liking them too much, I think the slightly longer case was the issue.
