I frequent a few 'shooting' forums, and the ammo shortage is a common theme.

I am in Canada, but I still enjoy pistols/revolvers in most calibers. We have seen BIG increases in ammo prices though.

I know guys that shoot as much ammo in one week as I shoot in a year, and everybody is different.

I don't want to know what you have, but given the uncertainty and rising prices, I wonder what our American cousins think of it all, compared to Canadians.

My question:
How much ammo (at this time in history) are you comfortable with having. Whether you are stockiling, or just trying to keep up with your hobby.... how much do you like to keep on hand??

A round # basis on all calibers is fine. I don't need to know the caliber, but if you have more than one, what is your comfort level for ammo on hand in total (I have a good sense of what the Cdn forums say, but I am hugely curious about the US).

I would like to add I am in the US several times a year, and rarely miss an opportunity to shoot (revolver to full auto), and rent Harleys. Biking season up here (and shooting) can be too short.

I can't speak for anybody else, but I am hesitant with the current political climate in even mentioning that I have more than a box or two of ammo. That being said, hypothetically, a thousand to fifteen hundred rounds in each caliber would give me warm, fuzzy feelings.

Sorry friend, but you're going to get such a variety of responses - from a few hundred to a few hundred thousand, that I don't know you're going to see much of a consensus or average.

Personally, I have a few in each caliber and gauge, but wish it was several hundred thousand.

Will it depends on what your storing the ammo for. If it is judgment day then as much as you can get. I would say 1000 round in each caliber would be ok. But just think about how fast you can burn through 100 rounds at the range. Then just think if you had to hold off some kind of event you would really burn through the rounds quick. Then it also depends if you're on the move or not, how much can you carry. It really depends on the conditions you will need the ammo for.

Until I need to know how much weight the floor can support.

I have my own range 100 yards out my back door. I normally shoot 3 to 5 times a week and I shoot 100 to 150 rounds each time out. Now I am only shooting 1 or 2 times a week. I haven't found any primers for 3 weeks now. I am running low on ammo and until the primer situation clears up I will have to slow down or maybe stop shooting.

Since I reload for most of my shooting I'm more concerned about the availability of reloading supplies, especially primers. Primers seem to be the big problem right now.

If I were able to buy/store to my preferences, I would have at least 10,000 rounds of 5.56, of which 1000 would be premier loads like 77 grain Black Hills; 2,000 each of 9mm and 45 ACP ball, and .38 special mid-range loads, and 500 each of duty ammo in those calibers; at least 5000 .22 LR.

That would be minimal. Additional ammo in common useful calibers such as 30-30, 44 Special/Magnum, .308, etc would be a good idea.

I'm not stockpiling I just like to load in batches. For handguns that means I'll reload a couple thousand of a caliber before I change dies. Rifle calibers that can mean much less. a batch of 223 for me is 60 rounds because that is varmint ammo carefully loaded. As my 223 is a single shot there is no need to have much ammo on hand.

With me it isn't a hobby, it is a way of life. I will maintain a supply large enough to fill my survival needs, whatever that turns out to be.

I guess I really don't stock pile ammo Except maybe 22LR. I do prefer to buy in advance and keep some on hand in case a friend calls and says lets shoot. I buy well in advance so the price of shooting is not fresh on my mind when I blow thru a case or so.
I stock pile 22 LR because if I need to be mobile I can cary more ammo for survival I dont loose any sleep thinking about that sort of thing. Having mor ammo than you can carry will end up left behind or destroyed and is of no use. If guns or ammo are outlawed you shouldn't need a lot you won't be shooting much anyway.
I think it is obvious I have not put much thought in this matter I am trying to keep asmuch of my hair as I can. I am one of those people whos hair turns loose not grey.

I feel like a Bridesmaid...Never a Bride I Bought a New to me 3913 TSW but can't get ammo (waiting on Cabelas) But if and when I get ammo I will probably have on hand some to use to get acquainted with my new friend and some for SD

I keep ammo on hand for every gun I own. I won't disclose how much exactly, but much more that I would be able to ever carry on my person. I also like to stock up when I find it on sale. For example, it's not uncommon to find centerfire rifle ammo on sale just after deer season, which is usually the time when I buy most of my rifle ammo. I even try to keep a surplus of loading supplies on hand for my muzzleloaders.
