Default Norma TAC .22

Friend bought three boxes from Sportsman's Warehouse. First five rounds jammed three different handguns - two Ruger .22/45s and a Walther PPK/S.

First round from one of the Rugers didn't eject, had to be manually cleared. Second round, same issue. Tried the second Ruger which belonged to the RSO at the range. Empty case had to be driven from the chamber with a cleaning rod.

Fifth round locked up the Walther so tight the RSO had to use a Handi Racker to clear the gun. Didn't save the empties from the Rugers. The empty from the Walther had a visible bulge at the base.

Called Norma USA this morning, on hold for 10 minutes then told to leave a message. Be interesting to see if they call back.

I probably should have waited to post until I hear from Norma but I'm curious if other people have had issues with the TAC .22s.

I have tried it, and had issues feeding in several semi-auto's (didn't seem like enough power to operate the gun). It is accurate though in a couple bolt actions I tried it in. Still like CCI standard velocity better. No failures due to cases getting stuck.

I put a few 100 rounds of it through my KIDD 10/22 and my Ruger Precision Rimfire. The KIDD liked it the Ruger no so much. No FTF, FTE, issues.

Haven't tried it in a pistol yet.

Its about the oiliest/greasiest rimfire ammo you will ever find, take a rag with you when shooting a box or your pants legs will get a good oiling.

Thanks for the heads up.
Have never fired any Norma 22.
Lately have bought just about every brand which shows up, will skip Norma.

I've gone through several thousand rounds of it and have never had any problems . Decent accuracy for the price .

I have not fired my stash of Tac 22s. I believe they are subsonic 22s so I can understand your feeding issues. Being subsonic they probably won’t function in some setups. I wonder if anyone has any experience with this ammo with a suppressor?

I have never had a problem with Tac 22 in my sw22 or my Marlin XT-22. It shoots clean and accurate.

My 1522 carbine has no issues with Tac22. And it can be picky at times. The 1522P wants nothing to do with them....jams, stove pipes; never had it lock up though.
Accuracy in my bolt guns is ok; nothing to write home about.

That picture is not what I have. My carton says TAC 22 not Subsonic 22 on the side and the muzzle velocity on the end flap says 1100 fps. Your box shows the gun with suppressor on it, also; suggesting maybe they work best with a suppressor .

Default Norma TAC .22

I bought a 5000 case from an estate, shot abt 500 of them in various pistols and revolvers, not a single issue so far, except it’s very greasy as mentioned

At 1100 fps it’s close to CCI SV which is 1070 fps

I have a CZ bolt action that just loves Norma Tac .22. If I didn't already have a big stash of everything else, I would be buying more of it.

I believe the original poster was talking about 1100 fps TAC 22, not subsonic suppressed ammo.

I have shot several boxes (500 rounds) of that Norma 22 ammo without incident. They were fired from a Ruger 10/22, a Marlin bolt action rifle, a S&W 22A and a Ruger Single-Six.

I’m thinking that lately the quality control of 22 Ammo has slipped.
Just the other day I had 2 failures to Fire in one Mag in my Ruger LCP II 22. It was CCI Stingers.
Shot several other brands including CCI MiniMags, , no problem.

I had problems with this Norma 22 on Thursday using it in a Ruger MK2 semiauto. Rounds would fire but would not extract/eject so I basically had a single shot.

Hey I got a box of that stuff. Pretty much the only .22 available off and on at the local farm and feed store. Not tried it yet. As I recall. Nowhere on the box can I find country of origin. What is it? Is it something like Hungary like their centerfire pistol is now?

I have been shooting Tac-22 in my Hammerli 280 this winter’s bullseye season.
Not one problem. Accurate and reliable. It is oily, but so is a lot of European target ammo.
Our last match is today, I hope I didn’t jinks myself. 😳

I'm not sure where it's manufactured. Norma is a company based in Sweden. They have a US headquarters. I contacted them by email and they were quick to respond and indicated they will send me a mailing label to return the ammo to them.

To reiterate, it was not a feeding problem but failure to extract from three different firearms.

Norma Tac-22 is Lead Round Nose ammo. It feeds/ejects well in some of my pistols/rifles and not so well with others. Some .22s and .22 conversion barrels do not work well with LRN and suggest only Jacketed ammo. Some even recommend specific rounds (like MiniMag) for peak performance.

Before blaming the ammo, check your manuals.
