I keep finding ammo in my Walmarts, but the gun racks are now empty. Before it was the other way around. Picked up a few boxes of cheap 16 gauge shells even recently.

I see ammo everywhere, most all calibers, in large quantities... At horrendous prices.

I usually reload everything I shoot, but have bought a few boxes in the last 2 years due to primer availability.
Guess this is dependent on where you live, but ammo has generally been available locally for me since Q2 2021, where the high prices have been the problem.
Powder has also been available, and the prices only recently went up substantially, but primers have not been seen since mid 2020.

My local Walmart don’t look quite that healthy.
But recently I did buy 9mm Ball at Cabelas for 35 cents a round.
Cheapest I’ve seen it for a while.

Shotgun shells in my area of Ma. available but price is still up there for 12 gauge at around $12 per 25 for Federal at a local LGS. Walmart alwayssold out when I go at least. 9MM more reasonable than last years price of $50 but mostly "target" 9mm. No lack of clay shooters at my club but many do reload I know.

Walmart no longer carries handgun ammo or ammo for evil assault rifles. A pile of shotgun ammo doesn't excite me much.

As to Walmart not having much of a selection or any at all of guns.
Several years ago, when you are older everything is several years ago when in reality it was a long time ago, Walmart discontinued firearms due to the liability due to a shooting done with a rifle purchased from them.
At the same time there were several shootings in the news.
They did not have a sale they simply took them off the shelf, that is why I remember it. I tried to buy a shotgun.
Then in recent years in some Walmarts I saw some, not many, shotguns and hunting rifles dribble in, but not at all Walmarts in my area.

I shoot Skeet once a week in Northern IL. Usually 3 boxes of 12 ga. target loads. Buying 100 round packs (usually Federal) at Walmart I'm paying $7.50-$8 per box. I used to buy at Farm & Fleet for $8, but their target loads are $12 now.
I try to keep 6-8 weeks of ammo on the shelf. The 'old retired guys' network keeps each other informed when ammo is in stock. Driving 20 miles to get my allowed 300 rounds usually was not a problem. When 20 or 16 ga target loads were available I would get some of them too. Throughout the famine I never ran out of 12s.
Recently Walmart seems to be getting more ammo in stock more often. They have ended the 3 box limit policy. They didn't have the price increases others did during the famine.
Sadly they only carry shot shells, rimfire and 'sporting rifle' ammo these days. I really miss their bulk .38, 9mm and 5.56s.

Dove season…… one more thing I can’t do in New York State. Been dove hunting several times in West Virginia. I loved it. Every year there’s optimism for it to happen here in NY but it never does. I have doves all around me. If it does ever open I’ve got a plan for a 2 acre millet plot out back

Seeing . 22s, cf rifle, and game loads more and more here in Upstate NY. I just wish we were getting those 100 packs of cheap target shotshells. Sometimes they're handy and convenient, even though I reload. Especially for sporting clays with an autoloader, hate to lose good hulls so shoot throwaways!

Ever since Walmart stopped carrying pistol calibers, I stopped shopping there.

Although our club has historically been predominantly shotgunners, I’m more interested in handguns and single shot rifles. However, I usually take my 20 ga OU to our club range an average of 2-3 times a year to “keep my hand in” and to chat with the “other side”. When Winchester AAs used to go on sale, I’d buy a flat (250j or even a case, then save the hulls and reload. Between COVID slowing events and the paucity of components and reasonably priced factory ammo, I doubt I’ll even shoot that flying pottery twice this year. I’ve got components for a couple of thousand rounds on hand… I just hate to “waste” them!

About half the wally worlds around here have rifles and shotguns, maybe three fourths have ammo and vey few only have BB and pellet rifles. Thank God I reload 99% of my ammo and stocked up on components years ago.

Well, you can always search the net for those old People of Walmart image collections for a comic stroll down Memory Lane...?
