Stopped by the Sportsman's Warehouse here in SW Va. yesterday to pick up some trout fishing supplies and as usual cruised through the guns/ammo section. Wow - they had lots of ammo in all calibers EXCEPT .38 special. More ammo than I have seen on the shelves since before Covid.

Even had some 6.5 Creedmoor. Overflowing with 9mm.

Did they have any primers or powder?

I assume that you are talking about the Roanoke store.

I think we're about 1 yr out from sane ammo prices (for 9mm).

9mm is under $300 a case online for many places, and it's not just Tula steel. It's a lot of the weird offbrands that appeared during the crunch- Turan, etc; and I've seen Blazer and Geco (after coupon, about $240). I now see Fiocchi starting to pop up under $300.

For 223/556, PMC brass is showing in the mid $400's.

In short, that ammo is being made in bulk enough that it's hitting the shelves (and online sites), and is lower than prices a couple months ago. It will continue to flow in, and after awhile I think retailers will drop prices to move product. But I think there's still enough flurry of buying, that it isn't dropping quickly yet.

762x39 seems to have settled into a slot mirroring 223, which is a higher baseline than before. I don't see that shifting back.

Same here. My Warehouse has a bunch of ammo, especially 223-5.56 and 9mm.
Not much 38 Special, when it's there is in small amounts and it's EXPENSIVE!
They still have that 7x64!
Same at Cabela's down the street.

Same thing in Southern California. Sportsman's Warehouse and online sellers are where I usually purchase ammo. Sportsman's Warehouse has better prices and better selection then any other stores around here.

Pretty much the same at one of the Denver stores. No .38 SP that I saw, and very little 30-06, which I thought strange this close to hunting season. They had some 209 primers, and Win. black powder ones, and a better selection of powders than I've seen in a while. They also had a rusty Detective Special and a moderately rough flat-latch 36, but I passed on all.

All of em do, but no revolver or many of the classic rifle cartridges, e.g., 300 Savage, 35 Rem, 22-250, etc. Bet they had 7x64 Brenneke. :)

.38 ammo has always been hard to find in the Ozarks.
A lot of people have .38/.357 revolvers at home, but never shoot or carry them so the stores almost never have more than a box or two of ammo, if they have any at all because because they don't sell.
The people who shoot .38/.357 a lot are usually reloaders who won't buy the factory ammo either.

Yes - the Roanoke Store. As i don't reload I didn't check powder or primers. They even had some of the .22LR "Punch" ammo for self defense.

I go by the Roanoke store weekly and maybe 4 cans of useless powder and primers made by Cheddar or something like that for about $6 per hundred. Ammo shelves are usually full with cases on the floor. The prices are crazy and nobody buying.

Bass Pro and Sportsman's Warehouse in the Indy area have shelves full of 9mm multiple brands the majority $14.99/50.

The Reno Nevada store today had all kinds of lead and copper bullets of all calibers from low to high end companies, from 100 to 1,000 round boxes.

Loaded factory ammo also, even a few pallets of "Specials" on the floor.

Not saying that prices were doable, since the two workers behind the counter did not have any customers, to talk to, while I was looking at the bullets.

Lots of "Lookers" but I did not see anyone in the gun section , grab anything.

I almost grabbed a 250 package of 147 ball .308 bullets but the price was just a little too high.

Maybe prices will drop a little, for our Christmas shopping?
