Shooting full-power .357 handloads using W296 powder and 125 grain JHP bullets through a 4" GP100 got my son evicted from a local indoor range. The loads DID NOT exceed published data. Complaints were made about the noise and concussion. I used the same load for a while through my 4" 686 (at a different range). Definitely an attention-getter!
Years ago, I was firing factory Remington full-power 125 grain loads through a 4" Model 19 at an indoor club. No, the forcing cone didn't crack. The blast was such that a staffer came running in to see what in hell I was shooting! I haven't done anything with .357 lately. I'm very fortunate in having other guns to play with.

The indoor range I go to doesn’t frown upon flames and high db. They have .50AE rental pistols and .50BMG for the rifle lanes.

In a way I wish the indoor range I sometimes shoot at would care about boom and concussion. I was shooting handguns in one of the bays. The guy next to me started shooting an AR10. That .308 ammo indoors was terrible for those around him. Even though I had double ear protection if was still too loud and the concussion was going right through the divider. I had to step back from the line until he was done even though you pat by time.

An AR15 is no big deal.there but the AR10 is abusive to others on the line.

Finally got to the range.

Liberty makes a big big flash….
Remington had more felt recoil
158 gr. 38 Special was mild
125 gr 38 Special sounded like a cap gun

2 Liberty cases got stuck in cylinder…had to use the push rod.

I've shot at an indoor range one time in recent years. That was enough for me. I'd find another hobby quickly if my shooting was confined to an indoor range. Too much blast and noise from those who have a need to fire the loudest most obnoxious firearms they own. Two types of hearing protection is best but probably insufficient in some cases.

Is it that difficult to find an outdoor range?

There’re a few around but a distance from me. Three air conditioned ranges are anywhere from 5-15 minutes away.

I measured 138db

Yeah, that seems a little over the top.
All of the indoor ranges around here limit users to "pistol calibers". So anything up to and including 500 S&W and .223/5.56mm are OK.
Interestingly enough I haven't found any that will allow shooting an AK in 7.62x39 (even though there are "pistols" available in that caliber).
No AR-10s since they aren't "pistol calibers" either.
But I can sympathize with you, even a .223/5.56mm pistol is pretty darned loud in an enclosed space like an indoor range. But then so is a full-boat 44 mag or a 460 Rowland or a 500 S&W. I guess every range has to decide where they draw that line...

This is a fairly new range and it services a lot of law enforcement. The plates used are very thick and the only limits are no 50 BMG ammo. That is the only range I know which lest you fire rifle cartridges other than .223 ammo.

I'm glad to be "spoiled" by the use of outdoor ranges. I'm sure many others feel the same way. I had no idea so many shooters are forced to use indoor ranges as a matter of convenience. However, one shooter firing an AR15 (or something equally as unpleasant) on an indoor range is enough to make a longer drive to an outdoor facility seem worthwhile.

The only 2 public outdoor ranges near me are run by the Game Commission and have MANY restrictive rules. No more than 6 rounds in a handgun and no more than 3 rounds in a rifle to mention 2 of them. There are more and if you mess up and the ranger sees it the fines are expensive.

There are private clubs but the wait to get into then is very long.
