Default Ammo getting cheaper

The Sportsman in Reno has a flyer out with some pretty good prices, maybe in your town, also?

Aguila 9mm 115 fmj 50/ $12.99 also

Winchester 12 Ga. trap loads 7.5 or 8's 25/ $8.99

Have a great week.

Scoop it up, I just read an article (Gateway Pundit) that ammo will be on the rise in 2024 due to a shortage of gunpowder.

Shortage of powder, presidential election, wars on three continents, inflation, solar eclipse. Even I can predict a rise in ammo prices in 2024 and have a good chance of being correct. Just pick your favorite contributing factor.

I bought 500 rounds of 12 gauge 1 1/8" oz. slug (1350fps) for $229 including free shipping to the socialist state of Ma. from AmmoSupplyWarehouse. I may buy another 500 rounds today. Nothing says STOP like 492 grains of lead going 1350fps. That's 2142 ft.lbs of energy!

Here is a link to the article. IMHO, these are not significant increases in ammo prices...

Well gas prices have dropped a substantial amount here lately too. How long will that take to lull us into complacency before the next spike in that? I would say buy when it is cheap! Now don't bankrupt yourself/leave the kids barefoot hoarding pallet loads of ammo or stacking it on top of the fridge till the ol lady screams at you. Get while the gittin is good is probably wise based on say, the last ten years or so of things we have seen. And the potential factors that guy up there mentioned. I doubt you will see ammo for much less than 12$ box in the future so that is not worth fence setting for.

Adjusted for inflation, that case of ammo would cost $217 today so 13 bucks a box isn't too far off the mark.

In the last weeks I've bought quality 9mm NATO and .223 for less $ than I had in several years.

God stop it already.
The reasons Vista sited for this vomit are completely independent and have almost no part of their corporate sandbox.

The thing that I find curious is the disconnect between retail 9mm practice ammo and the retail prices of equivalent reloading components to reload it.

Used to be you could still save somewhere in the neighborhood of $3-$4 reloading 9mm. Now I see factory 9mm for $12/50.

Current online prices for powder ($40, 6gr charge), primers ($80), and bullets (Berry's 115gr $117) to load it comes to $11.50ish. I don't have shipping, hazmat, or sales tax in my calculation. That would throw it over by a good bit.

So if the components to load factory are plentiful enough to get the price of factory ammo down that low one would think more components would be coming at better pricing. OK you can make a case that manufacturers don't use canister powder, but still.

I haven't noticed it getting any cheaper and some has even risen a small bit if not one of the very popular calibers like 9MM or 223. That said, it has stabilized and personally I do believe it's the time to buy what you will need for the long haul. I do not have a crystal ball and can and will not guarantee that the prices won't drop a bit, but if I was a betting man, I would bet they are soon to go up!

If nothing else, the price of shipping will rise and possibly become illegal like in some States already.

Well again...I don't reload 9mm(although I can...have components). Browning was 10.99 box...so I bought 4 boxes. Aguila 22 LRHPs were 2.99 a box...bought 10. Hadda pay 4% tax but I was buying more chicken feed anyway Hate paying sales tax...gummit justs wastes it on stupid stuff.
Now I don't shoot a lot of 9mm but I now have 9 of the HF type plastic ammo cans. And about 35,000 rounds of 22s. Now...is the time to buy...when you can find it...not great prices but reasonably priced anyway. Now it's time for me to buy commercial lead bullets I am short on...Powder- check....primers(getting there but)-check... bullets...200 bucks will bring me up to speed....Might need a few more 22s...LOL

I bought some 9MM at the local farm store on sale a couple weeks ago, they sold out quick and now the same ammo is 5$ more a box. Gas was in the 2.40s till yesterday I noticed it had jumped back to about 3$. When prices take a dip you buy either if you can. If they can sell at the higher prices there is no motivation to cut prices depending on competition. That is how inflation works, it goes up and peaks and maybe falls off the peak a bit sometimes but if you are holding out for ammo to drop to 10 years ago prices again, you are out of luck. That goes for your groceries too. Compare supposed panic buying to smart buying and try to discern the fine difference.

40 years of handloading equipment and componets purchased during times of plenty. I never slowed down during covid or any other time. I imagine my son will end up with what I have not shot when I die. Lesson: stockpile during times of plenty then you don’t care about the most recent shortage. Just recently I saw a lot of free shipping and haz mat deals. Buy when you see that .

Yes, buy now.
Yesterday was at my local Cabelas .
Their ammo shelves were kind of empty!
I wanted some 9 mm.
No Joy! They had 7 - 20 round boxes of Barnes, $1+ a round.
I bought 2- 100 round boxes of Mini-Mags and a shirt!

Have a great week.
I'm paying about $75 a case for trap loads before shipping and taxes. I can usually get two cases of Federal delivered for $190. That works out to about $9.50/box after taxes and shipping to my door. Don't even have to leave the house. I wish I had a fork lift.

Aguila 38gr HV HPs for a $0.05 each... Delivered. Net!

It's been a while since I've seen these and this was by the 500 round box, not a case price.

Cheers!

...on the other hand, regular rifle ammo has finally shown up here, in quantity and variety, and prices are lower than they were a year ago (when I could barey find ANY .30-06, for hunting).

In SOME cases such as the vulnerable 223 and 556, and ammo for an AK, MAYBE the prices have fallen a bit because I truly believe the ammo company's are "afraid" that they are doomed to be banned and they will be stuck holding the bag. I think they might want to lower and ship those before the door is shut. Other Other calibers that are for multiple different guns have not (as far as I can tell) dropped.

Ammo manufacturers just now caught up with demand. Supply is starting to fall off again due to global conflicts and material shortages. 2024 is going to be another tough year for ammo and reloading components.

The latest is a powder shortage coming. Manufactures have already told us that.

If the gummit discontiues sales of say 223/556 and 7.62 X39...there will be a bit of a while before it happens. The ammo companies will make it till the last day it can be sold with lots being contracted before DCing it to civilian sales...at an inflated price of course

I think he means that the ammo companies are worried that direct shipping to customers may be banned, largely by state legislation.

Or possibly having to get a background check to buy ammo. None of that happens here....yet.

I know some states already can't have ammo shipped to residential customers, no?

And my state already requires an "ammo card" if you have no hunting license, or pistol permit already.

So yeah- I too, see all this coming at some point.

And LVSteve- thanks for the clarification I asked for -

I think the biggest "ban" risk is that with a stroke of a pen ammo will no longer be imported for civilian sales. Most of us remember when Chinese imports of ammo was similarly banned.
