Recently I picked up a case of IMI M855 because I wanted some relatively inexpensive practice ammo for my Savage M11. Then I started reading online reviews and got serious buyers remorse. Most reviewers I found said this is 3-4 MOA ammo. Finely got to the range today and was consistently getting 1 1/4" groups at 100 yds. Obviously not good enough for you match shooters but defiantly Minute of Groundhog for me and who knows, with more practice on my part I might get sub MOA.

So just a reminder to take online reviews with a grain of salt. Including this one.

One thing I've found with milspec/milsurp ammo is that when fired from different types of rifles, the results can be highly variable. For example, I tried using some German 7.62 NATO to sight in a Howa bolt gun. It patterned badly. Same stuff in a FAL is typical 3-4 MOA, but in a converted Chilean 1912 Mauser, the stuff is laser accurate.

And one thing *I've* found is that some people couldn't shoot MATCH ammo better than 3-4 MOA!!

So yeah, take internet claims with a grain of salt, is right!

The 'green' tip with the penetrator was never meant to be ultra accurate BUT if it works in your toy - so much the better. ENJOY! 😁😁

Perhaps that 3 to 4 MOA was in AR’s where as the 1 1/2” was from a bolt action rifle.

Some of the best advice there is, with any type product. Too bad many will not take this to heart!

I believe the IMI M855 is made to US military/NATO specs, and it has been approved and actually made for US Military purchase and use. So it should produce the same, or very close the same, ballistic performance as M855 made at LC. At least that was the way it formerly worked. There were similar supply arrangements made with other foreign ammunition manufacturers. There is a name for that program but I do not remember what it is. Idea was that if the US military got involved in a shooting war, say in Albania, it could immediately procure a large stockpile of needed small arms ammunition from an approved source, such as from a manufacturer in Germany or Sweden, that was much nearer to the action if it became necessary.

I still have a few boxes out of several cases I bought at the end of the 20th century. Except for hard primers it is full power, clean burning, as accurate as I can utilize and does have the NATO headstamp. I like that it came 30 rds/ box, packed 40 box/ case. I paid maybe $150 case, I don't have the invoices. Joe

IMI, now IWI, bought their ammo manufacturing equipment from General Dynamics/Winchester. Assuming they feed it good materials, and watch the settings and specs, it should be good stuff.

I worked with some IMI engineers on a project that made VERY large bangs when they went off.

A new shooter at a local range un boxed his new 223 bull barrel rifle, a gift from his wife. Shooting some heavier than 55g match ammo he was distressed by sideways bullet holes on the target paper. Someone gave him a box of lighter bullets hopefully to group better in his slow twist bbl and it helped substantially. He went home happy.
