Default Antique ammo

I recently purchased a sealed box of antique ammo to go with an early S&W that I purchased. The package was sealed in shrink wrap age unknown.

The sealed package was calling to me " Open me open me open me"

I resisted since I would lower the value of the ammo.

"If you don't know the date there is little value." The ammo called.

Well the ammo won. Inside the box sat 20 pristine 1890 .38 cartridges. I was elated.

Now the other boxes of collector ammo are calling.

Bah Humbug.

Nasty habits you are flirting with. I have collected antique ammo for 6 decades now and still am excited when I get a new single or entire box.

I have a full yellow box of Super Vel 110gr JHP 357mag. Just curious about its value or should I just shoot it up?

It is fairly common to find full boxes of older SV, and it is not scarce and has no special collectible premium value. However, I would definitely not suggest you go out and just blow it all away. Keep it for special occasions. It does have some historical interest as SV did force the large ammunition manufacturers into producing similar high performance loadings. Before SV, nearly all handgun ammo on the market had either FMJ or Lead bullets at lower MVs.

I have four or five full boxes of old yellow box SV in several calibers, but it is unlikely I will ever fire them. No reason to, as I have thousands of rounds of reloads to use for fun shooting. One of these centuries, the SV will be worth something.

You mean like these? I do not shoot any of the Super Vel. Since I reload, I can duplicate it.
