Default Ammo prices going up first of the new year

Apparently there is a shortage of nitrocellulose which is used
to make gunpowder. Large quantities are being diverted for
the production of larger shells and projectiles for the ongoing
wars around the world. Got this from SGAmmo.

There is a LOT going on. I heard on news tonight just the amount of ammo that is going to be sent out to Ukraine in this next aide package.
Big.

Prices have nowhere to go but up. Like everything else.

SG ammo is absolutely terrible. They will stop selling 223/556 after tragedies/political stuff, turn off their website, cancel orders prior to shipping and blame it on being too busy.

Then they re list all of the ammo at gouge prices a few days later.

Business is business but they will never get my money. I would rather pay more from a brick and mortar.

They also posted a few months ago that lake city was canceling all commercial contracts in order to do only federal stuff for Ukraine. This caused an ammo run and they shut their site down and inflated prices. A few days later, lake city put out a memo that they weren’t cancelling any commercial contracts.

If ammo is going to increase next week, why are retailers dumping 9mm at 20cpr and 22lr at 5cpr?

Please post a link to $10/box 9mm and $2.50/box 22LR!

I've had excellent luck with Sam Gabbard and SG Ammo, fast shipping and great packaging.

Why wouldn't ammo go up, the cost of everything else is...

Within the past week or two, Academy offered 9mm at $50/box of 250 and Skogens offered 22lr at either $2.31 or $2.51 (don’t remember because I didn’t buy any) for a 50 round box.

Ammo Sale and LG Outdoors both have .22 LR ammunition for sale at 2.7 cents a round. But, are they even legitimate companies? My guess is, probably not!

Check Ammo seek. .22 LR can be bought for $2.50 a box or less. In the last few months I have bought 6,500 rounds from two different companies for less than $2.50 per 50 rd box.

That’s what I checked. What companies?

LG Outdoors is in Korea and has poor customer service. Doesn’t make me exactly want to place an order.

Groceries will be going up along with utilities , taxes, the prices of new and used cars, clothing etc , etc.
Why are we surprised that the cost of ammo and reloading supplies are going up as well ?

You must not be looking very close. There are several companies that have .22 LR for under $2.50 per box. I have bought from Foundry Outdoors and Ammo planet.

So no shipping or taxes on these amazing ammo deals?? I'm just not finding these blowout prices in this stellar economy? Especially from well known companies. And I'm suppose to believe they are going down in a new year with a war going on??? I don't get it.

Lots of .22 LR for less than 5 cents per round, $2.50 a box on Ammo Seek. Some companies offer free shipping if you spend $250 or more. Companies in Texas don't always add sales tax if you don't live in Texas. If you can't find any reasonable prices you just aren't looking hard enough. Read the fine print, shipping costs vary widely. I don't think prices are going down in 2024, it's going to be a year of drama and panic buying. The best time to buy might be right now.

Buy once cry once is my mantra right now. I believe that ammo and reloading component availability in 2024 will be dubious at best. I'm good, but for those who aren't, be forewarned. Just one man's opinion.

Got this notice in SGAmmo's newsletter today:

Quote:
News from Shotshow 2024: I just got home from 4 days in Las Vegas at the shotshow, where I met with the people from the factories we work with, factory sales people, factory directors and owners, importers, etc. The big point of discussion seemed to be shortness in supply for nitrocellulose, which is the raw material used to make gunpowder and other propellants and explosives. Based on these conversations, the issue seems to be based on 2 factors, decreased availability in the supply chain and increased demand for the manufacturing of military ordnance. Getting into the details and a little more, a huge percentage of the nitrocellulose used to make gunpowder historically came from China and Russia, however according to my conversations with industry partners, the Chinese manufacturers who historically were the biggest suppliers at over 30% of the market share are no longer willing to ship raw nitrocellulose to the USA or NATO member countries in attempt to reduce the USA & NATO's ability to supply Ukrainian forces with artillery shells, and of course Russia who historically was the 2nd biggest supplier is out of the supply chain as well. This decrease in supply in raw material has gunpowder manufacturers in the USA raising prices dramatically and cutting off many of the smaller ammo manufacturers. The 2nd part of this issue is the demand for military ordnance, like 155mm artillery shells that use huge quantities gunpowder propellants, and the gunpowder manufacturers switching production to this type of gunpowder with what supply of nitrocellulose they do get. The first reason is that they always put the US government's needs before those of the commercial market, and the second reason is that it is simply much more profitable to manufacturer military ordnance than it is small caliber ammunition, so they get a much more profitable price manufacturing powder for artillery shells. In conclusion, while most of the factories seem to have gunpowder stockpiled today, this issue is expected to catch up to them no later than the summer of 2024 and possibly within a few months, and when it does it will mean the factories will be capable of producing much less small caliber ammunition to sell to the US commercial market. If demand for ammo is low to moderate, you may not see a big change, but if demand were to go way up as it does periodically, the factories will not be able to ramp up capacity to fill that demand.
Interesting that China and Russia control half or more of the world's supply of nitrocellulose.

I just paid $46 for a pound of Unique.

I committed to buying it a while back or else I would have passed on it. Didn't know it was going to be $46. Grrrrr.

If you want to believe it, you absolutely can.
Funny how ammo brands not held by Vista Outdoors isn't rising like theirs.

I only half believe the China part, that they’re cutting exports of NC. When has the world’s military industrial complex ever allowed themselves to be screwed over?
