Default Vista Outdoors for sale?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world...3c580a84&ei=21

THis is interesting the billionaire refitting surplus soviet tanks for the ukraine issue, has already purchased Italy’s Fiocchi Munizioni SpA meaning he owns Fiocchi ammunition.

And now is trying to purchase over the entire ammunition producing arm of Vista Outdoors.

Vista Outdoors has played this game twice before, once with the Czechoslovak Group and once with Canadian MNC. Is this time for real??
Not sure what they're really up to. I heard they were slated for a National security review and planned to sell the "outdoors" product lines to sidestep that problem.

I don't know much about how such things work, but it seems to me that having a near monopoly over so much of the ammunition and reloading component industry would've justified an antitrust lawsuit years ago. Vista Outdoors controls, for example, all domestic primer production in the U.S. except for Winchester. Is it really a coincidence that not only are we still seeing record high prices, but these so-called competing manufacturers are all locked in to virtually the same prices.
(Is there really a legitimate reason why domestic-made primers sell for more than loaded domestic rimfire ammunition on a round-for-round basis?)

I have watched their volatile "rollercoaster" stock prices for a few years. (Look up VSTO stock, and search the 5 year archive.) They have, in my opinion, played the American firearms consumer market for suckers, alternating between cutting off or flooding the market with product, all "coincidentally" timed with the U.S. electoral calendar. Their stock prices have fluctuated accordingly, especially given the strong emotional reactions gun owners have had to these supply issues.
Who knows, this most recent announcement might be another sucker play?

I would love to see Vista Outdoors kaput, and get these manufacturers back in the hands of competitive, gun-savvy (and friendly!) business owners!

Does US law allow majority ownership of US ammo manufacturing by a foreign entity? This seems to be a National Security issue.

I may put in a bid myself. Let me check under the couch cushions. There is probably some cash there.

This seems to be the latest summary of the CSG takeover of Kinetic Group. Kinetic Group is the new name of the ammunition and ammunition-related portions of Vista (CCI, Federal, Remington). https://www.businesswire.com/news/ho...-Kinetic-Group

I had the same thought. When I looked under cushions, all I found was a 4” K Frame.

For those of us without a .gov background, could you expand on what that means, please.

This is the CFIUS review mentioned in my earlier attachment. The proposed transaction is apparently still under CFIUS review. See the fourth bullet point. CFIUS Overview // Cooley // Global Law Firm

Thanks for posting that. As a rule, I don't touch the msn website with a ten-foot pole.

I had to clarify this again for myself.

Please Note: There is no intended politicization of the topic intended by this post. But, it is interesting and, I think, non-partisan in content.

Originally, I saw it in a NY Times article. Apparently, congressman Clay Higgins, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, asked Janet Yellen to investigate potential national security concerns.

Here’s a quote that refreshed my memory:
The Louisiana Republican said in a letter that the sale of Vista Sporting Products to CSG would result in the firm controlling “nearly 70% of production capacity for primers in the Western world.” Primers are the component of a bullet that ignites the charge, sending the projectile down the barrel of a pistol or rifle.

For these reasons, I request Cfius to carefully examine national security concerns of the proposed acquisition,” Higgins wrote in his letter to Yellen, adding that Cfius should also examine any “past or current relationship between CSG’s owners and foreign adversaries.” Higgins contended that CSG had “ties to Russia and China.”

I think this quote appears verbatim in a number of press releases.

Does anybody else feel concerned about the “70% production capacity” comment?
I do!
For the same reason, beyond security concerns, I repeat and stand by my previous comment in which I referenced anti-trust and industry monopoly issues.
