Just fired my Shield Plus in .30 SC this morning for the first time. Like a souped up .32, in some ways. Quite a bit of blast, but easy to shoot - made me look good at 5 yards with a reasonable group, especially for first time out. 16 rounds is a nice load out in a small gun.

I shot one months back. I liked it. But I’m waiting to see if it becomes more mainstream before I buy one.

Conceptually, I like it, but I've never fired one, and sadly it looks like the cartridge isn't getting much of a push anymore, so its future is uncertain.

I'd really like to see it catch on and get some new firearms chambered in it, as I think it has some potential as a viable alternative to 9mm Luger.

You never know what the future might hold for it though, seeing as 10mm Auto and 5.7x28 have both found renewed interest recently, despite previously being niche cartridges which had never really achieved mainstream popularity before.

Personally, I'm banking on .357 SIG becoming the next niche cartridge to see a resurgence in interest, especially since YouTubers keep on bringing it up and testing it out lately.

Haven’t seen or heard much about the 30SC in the past 6 months.

The .30 SuperCarry may have made sense prior to the introduction of the higher capacity micro 9mms such as the P365, Shield Plus and Hellcat. But those were already available by the time the .30 SC hit the market, rendering the new cartridge superfluous at best and arguably downright obsolete upon its introduction.

I have no interest in a 30sc or know anyone that does . The extra round or to seems to be the biggest plus to the 30sc as there are 9mm loads that simply out perform it and there's more handgun choices in 9mm .

We all make choice on what we carry and if you like the 30sc and the handgun options for it what other's think should not matter . Might be you order a Nighthawk 30sc to carry .

I don't own or want one. I shoot only revolvers now a days. But...

My dad got one. He's of course older. Has worked all of his life. Largely in tough and labor intensive jobs. He suffers nerve damage in his left hand, and arthritis in his dominant right hand.
He does have a 9mm M&P Compact I believe (3.5 or 4 inch barrel, can't remember as I don't know the models well) and while he does say he can shoot 9mm well enough, it would leave him sore later.

A couple months ago, I helped him source a 30 SC Shield. Its a lighter gun by default, has comparable amount of rounds, smaller, etc. Even with the lighter weight and size, he finds the 30 SC shoots easier for him.

He said he feels it's a small step down from a 9mm but better then 380.

I think it could theoretically catch on for older people who want semi autos but don't want 380, but 9mm may be a bit rough on aging hands, or the crowd who all support the current gun craze (younger and driven by YouTube people).

Seems to be well received based on what I've seen.

I just received an e-mail informing me that Walther is bringing back the PPK chambered in .32 ACP.

The .32 ACP seems to have been making something of a minor comeback lately, what with Beretta 3032s being a good seller for them, which is likely what caught Walther's attention in the first place.

So yeah, at the risk of ruffling some feathers I'm going to be bold and say that perhaps the market is finally getting bored with nothing but 9mm and to a lesser extent .380 ACP, as evidences by the sudden renewed interest in 10mm Auto, 5.7x28, and perhaps .32 ACP as well.

If folks like .32 ACP, then I imagine that what is in essence a hotter .30 pistol cartridge could appeal to them as well, provided that it is marketed properly.

No argument that it is superior ballistically to .380.

I thought the 30 SC was an interesting and viable concept , especialy for those of us with older hands... I'm over 70 now ...
... then I saw the S&W MP 22 Magnum !
A semi-auto with 30 rounds of 22 magnum !!! Yowzer ... that's a lot of real estate ... a spare mag = 60 rounds at hand !!!

Too many good guns ... wish I were born rich instead of so good looking ...
... I want to try them all !

A solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Try to find ammo for one in a couple of years.

Just another marketing ploy. It won't do anything better than a 9mm. The .380 has been in town for over 100 years and there is plenty of ammo for it available everywhere. In a few years not many stores will carry 30 SC and if they actually do have a few boxes, it's gonna be a sky high price.

IMO, just another way to fleece the gun buying public and will turn out like 357 maximum and alike.

Any time I see “30 super carry” I think “dodo bird”. In 5 or ten years I think their fate will be the same

I like the .32 ACP cartridge and have a few guns in the caliber. The round was created by the revered and sainted JMB, so what's not to like?

But, looking at the ballistic specs for the "new and innovative 30SC", it just looks like a blending of the .32 ACP and the 9x18 Makarov - with nothing more to offer than an extra round on board.

What am I missing? Why should I add one to my safe and loading bench?

Those of us with inquiring minds want to know....

Short of "military" calibers being banned for general use, I find it hard to believe that 30SC will gain traction in the US. I wonder if it is sold in other countries where 9mm is banned for civilians.

I like this cartridge, and it is much closer to 9mm in performance than it is to .380 ACP.

It uses the same diameter bullets as .327 Federal, so reloading component availability should not be a problem.

Like others have said, the form factor of the round is interesting, but needs more platforms.

Not seeing any advantage over my 45 ACP. So you can spray ineffective rounds? Not interested.

I'm guessing that in a few years it will be at least as popular for carry as S&W short.

Seems like it should be a somewhat effective alternative for some shooters. I'd say the target market would be new(er) shooters, none or minimal experience, perhaps elderly or smaller statured or with hand strength issues, primarily concerned with personal defense.

Is it going to appeal to the majority of seasoned, long-time gun fanciers? Doubtful. It may find favor among some veteran shooters who love the newest/latest gear.

Is it something that we desperately needed? Nope, not IMHO. But then, 90+% of all the new cartridge introductions of the last generation haven't been life-changing.
