Winchester Super X 22lr 40 Grain Copper Plated RN
I buy my 22lr from Target Sports. 99% of it is CCI SV and Mini-Mag. They were recently out of stock in Mini-Mag. I made choice of Winchester Super X 22lr 40 Grain Copper Plated RN until I got notification of a restock on Mini-Mag.
Really bad decision!. First shots were from my Ruger Super Wrangler. 20% FTF with that transfer bar firing pin on those pistols. Never had the problem with CCI . Today I shot 160 rounds of Winchester Super X 22lr 40 Grain Copper Plated RN in my FN-502 and Hammerli Arms Forge H1 22lr pistol. I had 40% FTF and numerous stove pipes in my Hammerli Arms Forge H1 22lr pistol. Again , never had the problem with CCI . Really bad decision to buyWinchester Super X 22lr 40 Grain Copper Plated RN.
I have 250 rounds remaining..probably trash it while wait on my new Target Sports order for Mini-Mag

At one time Win Super X was the gold standard of .22s.
But when the great .22 shortage happened some years back, that changed.
Near as I can figure, everybody (including Win) cut back on QC to try to meet the demand. Winchester never got back up to snuff. Super X since then has been spotty at best.

Dirty Stuff
I just cleaned the chamber and barrel of my Hammerli Arms Forge H1 22lr pistol. I could not believe the times I had to run a patch through it to get it clean. I noticed today when I was shooting, the discharge smoke was brownish.
CCI smoke was always whitetish.

I haven't used any Winchester or Remington .22 ammo for that matter for many years . Severe leading , misfires and duds put me off either of those brands .
I use their centerfire ammo but will not use either brand of rimfire.
I like my rimfire rifles and handguns too much .

+1
I threw out all Remington stuff years ago, but the Winchesters didn't go bad until covid.
I used CCI Mini Mags for 40 years until the price became objectionable. Switched to Federal and won't go back. I bought a lifetime supply....

I am going to stick with the dependable CCI Mini Mags. I already got a Lifetime Supply of them anyways.

For general purpose and informal target shooting in my rimfires I use CCI Stnd Vel and Mini mags . Clean , reliable , pretty good accuracy for the price range and reasonably priced .
I've taken advantage of the pretty decent prices out there and have a very good supply of each .
I've used the Federal .22 ammo as well with no problems or issues but if it's available I'll stick with the CCI product .

I've shot Winchester Super X cartridges for over 65 yrs. and they were best of any brand I tried. A few years ago (6-10 yrs. can't remember) I bought a few cases and they broke me from buying Winchester. Some boxes had only 49 in a box, more FTF than in my whole life and bent cases that wouldn't chamber. I wish I would have kept count on the duds. Larry

My experience as well. I used to shoot nothing but Winchester. Several years ago, the quality suddenly slipped. I will shoot up what I have in WW but not buying that any more.

The only problems I remember with Super X 22LR, is that
many bullets can be turned while in the case. Loose for sure.
Might be to give the bullet a head start rotating prior to
moving ahead?
Only use them in revolvers now and have less than 1K left.
Always fun with the kids, firing a Bobcat in each hand,
as fast as possible at 10yds or so, and count the hits.

This is America! There is no excuse for turning out junk ammunition to the people that have been supporting you for nearly 2 centuries.
My personal vendetta is that I buy no Remington products that are new. That has been going on since 1988.

Sorry to hear the problems you folks are having. Winchester Super X were always my more or less “standard” .22 LR for years and years. I haven’t needed to buy for a long time.
The last .22s I’ve ordered were CCI standard velocity and blazers. I was pleasantly surprised by the blazers. They worked fine in everything I tried them in and were exceptional in one of my rifles (a Weatherby Mark XXII) that is extremely finicky about ammo.
Hopefully Winchester just had a hiccup and will get things going the right way again. QC problems should always be mentioned to the manufacturer, IMO.

I am still trying to shoot up some Winchester M22 I bought during COVID. It won't go off in either of my .22 autos but does work in the little Mod.63.
The only thing I've found that's a good substitute for CCI SV is the Aguila Super Extra Standard Velocity. It can be found a little cheaper. It even runs in my High Standard.
I don't have a problem with Remington. I shoot a fair amount of Yellow Jackets. My 22a-1 shoots them really well.

Sad to hear, but I have heard the same on other forums...
Friends and I bought several cases a piece back during the Klinton scare when they were trying to ban .22 ammo as a lead hazzard. Still have three unopened cases and that which is going through the guns now is working 100%...
I would contact Winchester and ask for a replacement...or refund...

Between my wife and I, we go through roughly 15,000 rounds of .22lr each year in a wide variety of handguns, and it's either 40 grain plated Aguila Super Extra, CCI standard velocity 40 grain lead round nose, or CCI Mini Mag 40 grain solids and 36 grain hollow points.
All have proven accurate and reliable in pistols and revolvers.

Not yet.. I still have them..300rounds. I'm going to spray some WD-40 Dry Lube on them and try them in my S&W 15-22.

Well believe it or not some of the best .22 LR I have stocked up on back before the Covid pandemic when prices were low are the 555 bulk packs of Winchester HVHPs. No misfires, high consistent velocities.

I believe it. I have some of those Winchester 555s. Not many left, but a few. On a lark I tried them in my Model 18 and they must have been made for that gun. I think the most accurate in that gun of anything I’ve ever used.

Yesterday I dumped my remaining 300 rounds of this ammo in a small plastic dish. Then I shot several one second blasts of WD-40 Dry Lube into the pile of ammo. Then, I gently stirred the rounds to insure full coverage of the lube. Next step was draining the small residue/excess lube from the dish. Last step was letting it dry overnight. I loaded 65 rounds into the mags and went to the range. All fired correctly. No FTL, FTF and FTE. Seems like the dried coating of WD-40 Dry Lube provides a coating similar to coating on CCI SV and Mini-Mag. No waxy residue.

The only new .22 stuff on the market that is holding any kind of accuracy potential from the testing I have been doing is stuff made by CCI/Blazer. I am working through a few new lots of .22 ammunition and so far am impressed with the Blazer stuff, if you are putting it through a well sorted out firearm is works well and I do not find any unreasonable fliers on target work. I am not talking about the high end stuff, which is all but impossible to get your hands on. Some of the guys I know are actually sending their rifles in for testing in order to be able to buy high ends target stuff in bulk, these are serious deep pocketed characters currently shooting VuDoo rifles and buying case lots of Lapua.

When I was a kid...Winchester was the cat's meow. I usually could not afford it though. for the money the Western Auto Revelation brand worked pretty well. Made by Federal of course. I bought a load of federal Black Friday deal ammo and it shoots just fine in the 22's I own. I also got a few 1000 of the Mexican Aguila 22 LRs and they shoot pretty good too, if a bit dirty. I have some Winchester here with bent seated bullets and kinda bent cases. They are in the 550 packs. If they chamber they fire.but pretty inaccurately. Grandkids didn't even want to shoot them... the ungrateful wretches. I've liked the blazer since they started making them. But don't se them too often. Had some CCI SV with some FTFire. Al the bulk pack Federals seem to be ok

The ones I have are 50 rd. boxes X22LR. When they don't chamber in my M18 I just drop them. I have about a case and a 1/2 left. I hope they are gone by spring. I have some CCI MM, SV and Federal 711B that I want to try out. Larry

I picked up two boxes 222 round packs ... they were on the dealers shelf , on sale and in a cool looking retro - yellow , red and black box with squirrel and rabbit . Didn't even consider quality ... Winchester - Olin used to be top shelf ammo ... I think it will do just fine for shooting out of a new Ruger Wrangler .. I'm half blind now and can't see the sights . The SA Wrangler has a stout hammer fall that should set 'em off ...
I will save my CCI stash ... At least the retro boxes are cool looking .
I can't believe Winchester ammo has gone so far down the tubes ...
It's a crying Shame ... and makes me sad .
If 40% of the rounds don't fire ... Winchester will be hearing from me ... I'm good at complaining ...loud and long ...
till I get some ... Satisfaction !

Unfortunately, Winchester has gone the way of Remington on their .22 ammo, maybe worse than Remington. CCI works best. I have some leftover SK Plus that is good, saving it.

Winchester went to hell in a handbasket back when they changed the AA case to a 3 piece instead of compression formed. Best case in existence and the penny pinchers would not pay for new compression forming dies. Heck they even quit making their wads. And after all that time.... about 30 years...Remington made a case better than a Winchester. As far as the 22s I just straighten the bullet and shove it in the cylinder of my old 22CM. Never had 'em not fire...but I won't use 'em in my 41s

Sad to hear. I have a good supply of pre cov. Winchester bulk and Fed bulk and pretty old Remmy and same brands in plastic trays and some CCI and others. Back in the day I had near zero duds in .22s except if the gun had issues like light strikes, or some weird shaped bullets that would not feed well in some guns. Well if you got alot of .22 ammo that you think is sus, don't worry, just about any ammo will find a buyer these days if you offer a decent price to be rid of it. Remember when you could get Mini Mags bulk in those green plastic "ammo cans" for cheap? Good old days.

Will never buy Win or Rem 22’s again. Have lots from 60’s-70’s which are fine. Only new 22’s I buy are CCI mini mags or similar. Fed standards have gone to pot too, will not buy any more. Sad situation.

Ive had problems on and off with winchester 22lr. Their 40 grn siver box magnum ammo is in my opinion some of the best 22 mag ammo made. For high velocity ammo its always been minimags for me. I think for hunting RWS subsonic hp rules.

Have also recently had a Bad experience with Win 22.
Hold on - Remington just came out with a new and improved round!
The Ranch Hand! My local Cabelas has some, I will try it!
I guess I have thought if it’ll shoot, a Revolver will shoot it.
Generally, The smaller the Auto, the more likely it is to be ammo picky.
The other day a Guy said his Wrangler was a problem with certain ammo.
So maybe not all revolvers.
But wait - FTF in a revolver, shoot again!
Low odds of two in a row FTF’s.
Back in the day, long ago, my Bro and I shot thousands of 22s.
Don’t recall a FTF. But we were shooting Rifles!
Some Failure to Function with dirty Autos.

Can sure testify that since the panic-buying days of the B.O. days, when most all ammo, especially .22 RF became difficult to find - in the aftermath of that QC went downhill.
Like most, my experience has shown that CCI and Blazer variant is at about the top of the pile for quality and consistency.
Will always recall the ONE time I literally threw .22 ammo in the trash. It was Remington Thunderbolt .22 LR 40 gr. solids.
Had several issues with them refusing to feed in a number .22's I had. Knew something was way-wrong when I couldn't get them to fit in a .22 single-shot rifle! They were .23 caliber! The bullets were actually larger than the case and completely useless.
No, I did not contact Remington. Considered it not worth the trouble.
Have NEVER bought 'ThunderDuds' since.

I had trouble with them in 2 pistols. I bought 2 cartons (10 boxes each) and before one carton was shot up they leaded the barrels of 2 pistols so bad the bullets where tumbling and I had a difficult time cleaning the barrels. I threw the rest of them away. Larry
