Hello
Most of the 38 Special reviews that I did were shot with two guns.
A Taurus 85 Ulta Lite 2 inch barrel and a Smith & Wesson model 15 with a 4 inch barrel.
First I do forensic exam of the ammunition. Next I shoot a group while chronographing with each gun. 10 yards with the 2 inch Taurus 85 and 25 yards with the 4 inch Model 15. Chronograph is a Oehler 35P
Then the ammunition is shot out of each gun into a 55 gallon plastic barrel of water. The bullets are then recovered, photographed and then measured for expansion. In cases where the bullet fragments and loses its jacket, a weight is taken with all the recovered material and also a weight taken with just the lead core.

I got fairly decent expansion out of the 2 inch Taurus and even better out of the 4 inch 15. Interesting that I get more velocity out of a 2 inch gun with this ammunition than I do from the fastest 158gr lead RN factory loads out of a 4 inch gun. And Buffalo Bore says this ammo is standard pressure.

Nice info. On your pressure comment, I know Larry Gibson on another board did pressure testing on BB’s 38 Special “+P” version of this load. His recorded pressure was in the 28k PSI range. Significantly over the +P threshold. Food for thought…..

This ammo is loaded to everyone else's +P load...at least it used to be.

Saw some chronoed out of a 4" M-64 back about 1980 and it was right at 950...don't remember the make but it was one of the Big-3... I rarely see it make 900 anymore...

Underwood has a standard pressure 158 gr soft lead SWC HP.

Be interesting if it is similar in velocities or expansion. Seeing these velocites I'm not expecting it to be as hot as the BB.
One obvious visual difference is the coating.

Still have some (WW#) 38SPD and 38WCP loads from 1970 or so, properly stored, including some early loads NOT marked +P. The 1977-ish LE Handgun Digest showed that era's LHP doing 1014fps from a 4" Model 10. Wish I could chrono them; I remember they were stout loads on firing.
