Hospital Carry
A recent discussion with a fellow carry permit holder brought up the subject of carry while visiting a hospital. It was said that carrying is forbidden in hospitals per Federal law.
Anyone have the rule on this??

Very doubtful that CCW in a hospital is subject to Federal law. Will check, however...
Be safe.

Yes, the Federal rule is very clear, but it only applies to Federally owned property, like VA and military hospitals.
Hospitals owned by states and private entities are NOT affected by the Federal law. These are covered by state law on carry and laws covering property owner's rights (trespass laws).
I can carry in my local civilian hospital (allowed by OK state law and Hospital Board policy) but NOT in the VA hospital when I go there.

A cursory check finds your friend to be in error. However, if the hospital is a US government one (like VA hospitals or NIH) one would be barred from CCW therein.
Be safe.
PS:
I shall stand corrected if someone finds me wrong. Perhaps a lawyer or FBI SA will address the topic.

In North Carolina. Any educational property, public or private, of any kind. G.S. 14-269.2. Hospitals train doctors and nurses so isn't that educational? Larry

Here we can't carry into a facility that treats psychological cases. Guess how many hospitals have psych wards.

No rules against hospital carry here in Maine, although the individual hospitals can post "no concealed weapons" signs if they choose.

I carry in hospitals...
Also church...
If discovered and requested to leave, I would leave immediately.
Trespassing is against the law!

carry in hospitals varies a lot from state to state. I know because I work in a hospital and do so in different states. In my home state, "hospital" used to include parking facilities for same but recently the state atty general has issued opinion that favors the holder of CC permit with weapon in car on hospital premises to include parking lots. So you can take it with you to the hospital but you have to leave it in the car when you get there. Then there's the issue of questions such as "is a surgery center a hospital?" And unfortunately in some states there are variances between pvt and govt (either state or county but not federal) hospitals. Too bad that it has to be so arbitrary and confusing but it is. Also, beware that being caught with gun in prohibited location BY STATE STATUTE even with CC permit may result in loss of your right to carry----it does in my state. So its not as simple as being caught and agreeing to just leave when caught!!!! Good luck with that plan.

The OP is in SC.
I trained in both SC and NC.
Drive, don't drive, park/don't park with a weapon is not an issue for us here.
Any place can be posted no carry, but that just means in NC and SC, that you may be asked to leave if discovered CCW. If you refuse, then you may be charged and arrested for "Trespassing", which is a misdemeanor here in our respective states. MIsdeameanors will not qualify you for loss of CCW privileges in NC and SC.
Next time someone from NE asks a question, you should help them.

No state law forbidding hospital carry in MN. Our local hospital does post stating that guns are prohibited. The sign meets the state legal criteria for posting and includes an outline of a 1911 with a circle and a line through it. My friend recently had to have his second leg amputated due to long term complications from a mine in Viet Nam. When I went to visit him I wasn't carrying a 1911 so I figured the sign didn't apply to me. In Mn they have to have the sign and personally tell you to leave and then if you refuse it is a $25 fine. While open carry is allowed for permit carriers if you are are carrying concealed it isn't an issue.

I have family in TX, and they tell me that the sign indicating no carry has to be exactly a certain size, or it means nothing. They think that's funny!

Here are the MN requirements for a legally posted sign. Probably as funny as Texas'. Most places I see that are posted don't meet the legal requirements.
1) "Reasonable request" means a request made under the following circumstances:
(i) the requester has prominently posted a conspicuous sign at every entrance to the
establishment containing the following language: "(INDICATE IDENTITY OF OPERATOR)
BANS GUNS IN THESE PREMISES."; or
(ii) the requester or the requester's agent personally informs the person that guns are
prohibited in the premises and demands compliance.
(2) "Prominently" means readily visible and within four feet laterally of the entrance with the
bottom of the sign at a height of four to six feet above the floor.
(3) "Conspicuous" means lettering in black arial typeface at least 1-1/2 inches in height
against a bright contrasting background that is at least 187 square inches in area.

I never gave it much thought but I suppose I have done it often, mostly because I don't realize I'm carrying unless I have my M&P on my hip. It's simply second nature now. I recently noticed the sign and did an about-face to deposite the M&P back in the car. I thought long and hard about whether to keep the P3AT in pocket

Carry in hospitals is important because in a zombie outbreak, that is the first place the infected will go.
