Carry a J frame IWB?
I've been carrying my 638 in a pocket holster, but today I picked up a IWB holster in a trade and really liked carrying it there. It was very comfortable as well as it was nice to have my pocket back. Anyone else carry a J frame IWB?

All the time, at around 3:30-4 o'clock. I ordered this holster from Side Guard holsters last year and love it (post a pic every chance I get)

Though I own a pocket holster it's rarely used.
I prefer strong side belt carry. It's split about 50-50 beteween IWB and OWB. FTR, it's customarily @ 3:30 position.
Be safe.

I appendix carry J frame size guns by other makers when the situation dictates. I prefer a big service sized revolver at 3:30 if possible. The bigger guns shoot better and hit harder, but are more work to pack. To me the trade off of convenience is worth it to have the gun I would prefer to have if the SHTF. A J will be the BUG in the weakside front pocket.

If I am wearing sturdier pants (jeans) I like a pocket holster, but if in dress slacks I use Galco's tuckable IWB holster.

When I carry my 642, it tends to be in a pocket holster. However, I do have a super nice Brommeland Max Con V for my 642 that I got at a very good price. I carry with that when I can't/dont want to pocket carry, but can't conceal anything bigger IWB for whatever reason.

Uncle Mike's #36 nylon holster, usually at the appendix. Sometimes I push it around to behind my hip bone. Either way it is very comfortable, been doing it this way for four years. I've tried a half dozen other holsters and keep coming back to my $12 Uncle Mike's.

Appendix carry with a J-Frame is what I carry 90% of the time. I will also carry a second J-Frame as a BUG in an ankle holster. Never liked pocket carry at all.

When I'm wearing a cover garment, I usually pick a bigger gun for IWB, like a K frame or SIG.
The rest of the time it's a J-frame in the pocket.

I do carry IWB on occasion with a J frame but I do prefer carrying in that mode using a gun with a longer barrel. The j frame always seems to feel as though it is trying to ride up above the belt. Pocket carry is my preferred j frame carry mode.

I carry my 640 IWB in a Kramer holster. That's where it rides 90% of the time. The other times it's in a Don Hume OWB holster.

I have carried J-frames IWB at either 4:00 or crossdraw. I find crossdraw much more accessible if I am sitting or driving. IWB is about the only way I can carry one with a 3" barrel, but 2" barrel J-frames are really handy for dropping into a pocket or ankle holster as well.

I work in a shop environment all day and carry a J Fame in a K&D Thunderbird IWB. I also have slightly extended aftermarket grips. I can also pocket carry but prefer IWB.

I can carry a 637 in my pocket all day, but a 940 seems to drag my pants down. More often, I'll carry the 940 in a Bianchi 100 IWB and leave the pocket and ankle carry to the Airweight.

I can carry either way, but I usually carry one in my left pocket. I'm a southpaw, so this works for me. My problem is that I have to wear a cover garment to carry IWB, and this isn't always possible. I try to make sure I wear jeans that have enough pocket depth to them, so that the butt of the revolver doesn't stick out. I've got a Don Hume IWB than works very well, but I just don't use it much.

I carried a 36 or 37 for many years in the appendix position, either with the Barami Hip grip or a cheap IWB holster.
I now prefer my 442 in a Mika pocket holster.

I carry a mod 49 IWB if my pockets are too small. It has rubber bands wrapped around the wood grips so it doesn't fall down my pants leg.

I love mine.

+1 for "anchors" suggestion. Tucker provides excellent fit (boning), comfort, and adjustability. Not a huge wait time (but you have to have a little patience while waiting for a quality holster).

For IWB I carry a 442 in a Galco USA at 11:00 (I'm a lefty) and am looking seriously at the Null SMZ.

For my J, I carry it in a pocket holster or appendix IWB holster. Both holsters are Mika's.

I use a Del Fatti ISP-DD.....it's horside so it's thin, but rigid....I wear it strong side IWB and with a 442, I hardly know it's there..for me, it's even more comfortable than pocket carry...I hate pocket carry...did I mention I can't stand pocket carry?

Delfatti makes great holsters. The ISP-DD is one of his best.
Here is my ISP-DD with shark trim carrying my model 642.

I carry my 60-15 (3") IWB in a Milt Sparks VM2. Leather with horsehide back (against body).
Extremely comfortable, even in hot summer weather.....Highly recommended!

Pretty much every day, until a few months ago.
I started carrying a 3" Model 13 instead.
I'm a well above average shot with an J-frame, but even with good grips it's not exactly comfortable to shoot with .357 Magnum loads and it's not something you'd want to practice with for a couple hundred rounds even with +P loads.
The Model 13 isn't much larger, and is still readily concealable but it's more comfortable to practice with. It also recovers much faster under recoil, making accurate follow up shots much faster.

I tried IWB for a long time , but being 6' - 2" and 210 pounds , a lot of it around my waist, it was uncomfortable , even with larger pants and a good belt. There wasn't a good way to hide the grip either , dress shirt and dress jeans ....no coat is how we dress at work.
Pocket carry solved all the problems....if it's not on you when you need it , what good is it ?
So it's seven years old....we can still talk about it !

I have an old Galco tuckable for my M60 .357 that I use. I have a Tucker pocket holster on order for when I'm wearing slacks with bigger pockets.

I never could figure out utility of a pocket holster. Might be a way to get us to buy more stuff that we'll never use. I just put my Model 60 in my pocket when necessary. It don't need no stinkin' pocket holster (one of my favorite movies). However, I usually carry on my strong side in a paddle holster, the only paddle holster I own.

While this thread is 7 years old, with the summer heat upon us I think it's a good topic to re-animate. I usually carry my model 36 in the warmer weather, I'm about 50/50 IWB and OWB. Except this year my 36 is vacationing in Massachusetts getting a make over and a tightening up. I am carrying my 2 1/2" 686. in a OWB as of late.

It seems the only way I can carry my 638 is a pocket holster. I wear a dress shirt tucked in. I know the ankle holster is an option, But not good for me in my situation. What else can I do?

Nope, after years of wearing a Sam Browne belt I have some Sciatica issues so either a pancake belt holster at 2:30-3:00 or pocket carry for me.

I carry a 640-3 on my strong side with a ClipDraw. Love it. No holster and I wear sweats most of the time and the ClipDraw works well with a belt too. No movement at all.

638 and 649 in a Sticky holster AIWB, 1 o'clock. Phone clipped @ 11 o'clock balances the slight the bump of the gun. Dress/polo/T shirts, always tucked in, it's deep concealment. Pockets full of other stuff.

On rare occasion I carry a J frame IWB, but if I'm going to carry IWB I usually go with my Rossi 971 or Charter Bulldog.

Every day, all day, it's one of these. LOBO offset clip. I wear it at 1:00, I found I can tuck my shirt around it with a little blousing, works great.

anything to not like. Here is a photo

When I carry my 640 Pro it's IWB in a Remora holster. I was carrying a 642 until I bought the 640 Pro. Now it's in the safe until the weight of the 640 begins to bother me.
