Has anyone tried the synthetic grips on the S&W web site?How do they conceal,handle with 357 ammo etc.etc.
How do the Ahrend boot grips compare to the Craig Spegal boot grips.

I have Patrick Grashorn stags on my 640 now,had some Badger grips and find them to slippery.

I've currently got the Hogue grips that came with it on my 640-1 and they handle about as well as anything could on that little cannon! I also have some Barami Hip grips that work great and hide extremely well but hurt when you shoot full power loads of .357 (which one would probably not notice during a self-defense situation). The Hip grips are also slippery and you better have an iron grip on them when you pull the trigger! Just my $.02.

My 640-1 came with the rubber Hogue grips. I fired only 38 special and found it not all that comfortable for prolong shooting. I did not like them for conceal carry and switched to the S&W factory boot grips. Those grips look good and are without a doubt smaller for hiding purposes. They are slippery and I have not fired 357 loads with the smaller grips. I probably will never do so. I have found a leather shooting glove does wonders when firing that little beast at the range.

If you have some money to spare, I strongly suggest the Crimson Trace LG-305 laser grips. They are a perfect fit for this gun. I like them better than anything else I have tried, and the laser is a great tool on such a short barreled gun. It allows you to keep both eyes wide open as you look over the gun at your target. I never thought of myself as a "laser" guy until I tried these. I have seen them for sale LNIB for just under $200. Very comfortable grip even with my very large hands!

I haven't looked at the S@W web site today so I'm not sure what you're referring to, but I bought a 340PD a few weeks ago and I really like the grips that came on it. Rubber with an S@W logo on them. I usually stay away from rubber grips on carry guns as they have a tendency to hang up on clothing, exposing the gun, at least for me. These have a finish that feels much smoother, so I'll probably keep them on it. My 640-1 came with rubber grips extending below the bottom of grip frame. Comfortable, but too long. I put on a set of Eagle Secret Service stocks several years ago, and really like them. They are "boot grip" length, not extending below grip frame, so pinkie finger is underneath. With full power .357 loads it is uncomfortable (though much more bearable than the 340PD) but highly concealable. If you don't mind wood you might like them.

I think the ones that came on mine were Uncle Mikes Combats. Don't conceal as well as others do, but, for me they are great to shoot with. Also use Hogues at the range, A bit chunker thant the UMs! Hope this helps.

I got the LG-305s because the 405s were too small. These are more comfortable than the grips that came on the gun.

They seemed to have gone up in price quite a bit in the last 6-8 months. They were right around $200 not too long ago. I bought mine from a forum member LNIB for around $190 shipped. Look around a bit, they are worth it!

PS: I should have just posted a link like Spotteddog did! The 360 pics are perfect, and they really show off the grip with crystal clarity.
