Barami Hip Grip - Outstanding!
Hi folks, this is my favorite method of concealed carry. No competition.
No dog in this race. I have these on four or five guns: usually j-frames or j-mag frames, although the one shown is on my 696 L-frame. As you know, the L-frame is the same grip size as the K-frame, so you order the K-frame. These are $28 shipped, are in 4 colors (my earlier ones, from 30 yrs ago, are in black which was the only color offered back then.
Also available for small-frame Taurus, Charter Arms, Rossi and Colts.
Website: Barami Hip Grip Concealed Pistol Revolver
My 696:
This shows you the "hook" which generally hangs on your belt.
...but you can hang it on the pant belt-line for increased concealment.
I have other IWB holsters: never use them with my smaller revolvers.
I can put the gun on my belt on 3 or so seconds when we leave the house for town. Safe carry in the car, walking, etc. I've never had a gun slip. Your belt holds it tightly to you. The cylinder hangs inside your belt, at belt-level. Pretty rapid access when you want it. If you buy this thing, you will be a believer.
I normally wear a t-shirt outside my belt, so gun is never seen. I do wear it in church, hanging on my belt-line, with dress shirt tucked in but pulled loose enough so that the "fold" hangs over butt and conceals it.
I hang it behind my hip, but can wear it forward of hip also, or cross-draw.
A user, like me, is good advertising for this device.

Yes, the old mirror trick. Sorry, meant to inform you of that.
There are Only right-handed models. If there are enuf lefties who want one, they would probably be happy to include them in the lineup.
Here is their phone number: Phone: (248) 738-0462

Hi:
I totally agree with you on the versitility of Barami Grips. My Wife and Daughter use the Pink Barami Grips on their "J" frames.
If I ever locate a hammer for an older model 12 to "Dehorn" I will get a pair of Barami Grips (Black not Pink).

Remember, Jimmy, model 12 grips are a little different than regular K frame grips.

I have used these for about twenty years and love them. They don't do everything perfectly, but are very good within their parameters.
***Slight hijack alert*** Has anyone fitted these to a M12, was it easy and did it work well?

baird - if they don't sell one specifically for a thinner framed model 12, a 75 cent sheet of sandpaper from the hardware store is all you need to slightly modify them. It's an easy process on the kitchen counter (while your wife's not home)

Thanks for the reply Vm. I just saw this as my computer took a **** and I am "borrowing" my wife's laptop. That seems like an easy fix.

I have also used the Barami Hip Grip for years. I never had a problem with the grips but I never liked the smooth plastic for hanging on to a full power load in an airweight. Being a knifemaker, my answer was to make the above pictured Hip Grip out of stag.

Well,
Since this seems to be the only pair of grips for a round butt J frame I don't already own, the orders going in today! It's actually a quite elegant solution for carrying a B/U. They follow closely enough to the frame profile to still allow pocket carry too. No more of the dreaded "aw, I'm only going to the mail box or convenience store for milk" type carry question. I'll be using them with a rubber band wrapped around them, to keep my widening belly from popping it up out of my waistband.

How well does this work with sweatpants carry, or any other pants where a belt is not used? Is a belt required to maintain stability and prevent the gun from rotating out of position?

Don't know yet Dave?
I'm guessing though, that the weight of the gun will have a great deal to do with it? Mine's an 11 ounce 342PD, so less so than with say a 640? But I learned a long time ago that what looks good on paper, doesn't always translate well to the real world!

My opinion....you really need a belt...you can get by with "hanging" it in your sweat pants or "jammie" bottoms when you need your hands free for a moment.
You might try a narrow web belt under your sweat pants. You could even attach a Tough Strip reload pouch under your sweat pants.
I used to carry a model 38 using the hip grip as pictured with the paddle under the belt. I kept the gun covered w/ a T shirt or sweatshirt. My job required some mild athleticism: jumping, climbing, crawliing. The gun never fell out of place. While "river ratting" with some friends I actually fell out of a sweet gum tree into a river, hitting and grappling for tree limbs on the way down....the revolver was still where it was supposed to be after swimming to the bank.
Some one from this sight informed me of a "lip grip" manufactured from laminated wood that is very attractive.

I'm a big fan of the Barami also. Been using it for 2+ years. Great thing about it is it works in all holsters too.

I was just thinking about posting a thread about those grips. My mom has that on her old model 60 but she didn't remember who made it. It just sucks that they don't sell it for us lefties

I Think you'd find even if they did Marcus, that the cylinder release would be too obscured to be used easily?
Hmmmm? Perhaps a L/H set of hip grips on a Charter Arms Southpaw?

I suggest a small section of bicycle intertube, turned inside out. It is extrememly thin, and works much better than rubber bands, as shown here on the Model 60 I carry as backup to my knife...

I know I'm a little behind the curve, but does anyone knows if theses grips would work with pocket carry when not IWB? I have a 642 and carry it a majority of the time in a Mika pocket holster. Thanks

I have tried it using my Hip Grip, Tyler T-Grip equipped 442 in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster. The gun fits fine, I just didn't like pocket carry. I'm not sure if that helps you.
I see now that DeSantis is making the "clip grip" that adds a T-grip type addition to the Hip Grip of old. I have not seen or handled one yet, but it looks promising.

I suggest you get one and give us a review.....

My Hip Grips now reside in my spare grips bin. I switched over to the DeSantis Clip Grips this week, and I have no intention of going back. The DeSantis rides just as well, feels even better (to me) than a Barami/Tyler combo, and is made of what seems to be tougher and higher quality materials.

My DeSantis grip is very nice but is oversize along the back. Anyone else having that problem?

I pocket carry my M37 with a hip grip a lot of the time. Except I just clip the grip to my jeans pocket with the handle sticking out. Usually I have a pocket holster in my pocket as well to meet Ohios odd automobile laws.

For those wondering about the fit of a Barami hip grip to a S&W Model 12, the fit is fine. No modification of frame or grip is required. I have 2 Model 12 snubbies, round butt, and I have fitted them with the hip grip, Tyler T-grip, and bicycle tube combination. The arrangement works perfectly. And I can still use these revolvers in my holsters for them, an IWB and a pancake, both by Bell Charter Oaks. Wish I could post a photo to show that the thinner frame of the Model 12 poses no difficulties whatsoever to using the Barami hip grip.

Best way there is to carry concealed. They even work with the shirt tucked in the pants if you let the shirt blouse out a little. Larry

After reading this post I ordered a set off of EBay and installed them today. They are fantastic on my 642. Thank you for the recommendation.

In my world, the little J-frames are pocket revolvers...period! If I carry IWB, it's going to be a Baby Gock that has twice the capacity and reloads in half a second. The little J-frame is a wonderful backup, but never a replacement for the Glock. So....forgive me if I don't see the logic here.

Barami Hip Grip
The M638 has a Barami Hip Grip and a BK grip adapter. That is the only grip on my BUG/OD/SD gun. The grip causes no problem if I use it with a ankle or pocket holster or a belly band. The first Barami grip I bought was in 1969 and at that time only the right grip was offered. The original left side stock had to be used. I still have that grip, albeit is retired.

I routinely carry either a 442 or a 642 equipped with Barami Hip-grips in my right front Levi's pocket, covered by a tail-out shirt. Most comfortable and convenient way for CC that I've found. No problem sitting, either. Access is fast and no worry about a pocket holster coming out with the gun. Tyler T-grips give better purchase on the gun.

Hello all:
My question is; does this thing make it more uncomfortable to shoot the gun especially with 38 special +p?
Please advise when possible.

I have used the hip grip for J and K frames. Not secure enough for me.
If one could be made that would snap into a fixture on the belt it might be OK. I would probably go with the Versacarry if I really wanted a compact way to carry.

The swell for the "clip" does place your fore finger further away than other grips, but I also have a Tyler T grip on, that makes purchase of the gun secure and solid, even with the dreaded +p's.

Here is my 442 with Barami's and a BK grip adapter.
BK adapters are easier to find than the older Tylers.

I did not think the Hip Grip was a very wise carry method. Any holsterless carry seemed foolish. My LE background led me to consider that only for novices or criminals or somebody working undercover...A few months ago, I saw the De Santis Clip Grip on a website. They are similar to the Barami grips except they fill the space behind the trigger guard. On a whim, I ordered some to try on one of my J's. Much to my surprise, they work very well. With a good, snug belt they are secure. The bulky part, the cylinder rides below the waistband. The lack of a bulky holster and clip/strap conceals very well. The gun is easy on and off. I have them on my 640-1 and will get another set for my 337 ti.
I have a Rossi 720c, that is a five shot .44Spl with a three inch barrel. Its an excellent gun but I didn't like the bulky, soft rubber grips. Options for this revolver are scant. After reading somewhere that stocks that fit a Rossi 68/88 will work on a 720, I got a set and they fit pretty well. I added a Tyler T-Grip for a S&W J and a piece of bicycle innertube...PERFECT!...That .44 is easily carried and has gone from an infrequent carry to a frequent companion.

Love the hip-grip, but always wanted to add a laser
I have carried with the hip-grip, Tyler-T, and Handall Jr. slip-on for years on my S&W 638. Love the hump-back! But I've always wanted a laser on it. I just found out that Lasermax has an inline laser that attaches from the front of the trigger guard and the barrel lug. They have it in red and green. I just ordered the green laser today. I have wanted one for years, but wouldn't give up my hip-grip configuration for one. And now I won't have to!

Just be careful when you bend over to pick something up. I bent over to pick the newspaper up and my revolver fell out and took a nasty hit on the concrete....I wanted to cry. Stopped carrying it that way too !

Work for pocket carry just fine, they work with any holster. Also the clip part bumps my finger out some, to put my finger on the trigger just right.

I tried the Hip Grip years ago with a 2" J-frame. It didn't work out for me. The gun kept moving around and several times as I was getting seated the gun popped out and landed on the seat next to me.
Just be aware that it doesn't work for everybody.
