California home carry question

For those who do not have CCW in California, you are allowed to have a loaded firearm in your home or place of business.

However, while doing some research on this, there seems to be some "devil in the details" listed on some gun law attorney sites.

One site said that even though it is legal to have a loaded firearm at your home, it is not the same as "carrying on your person" at your home. The implication is that you can have a loaded gun at your home to grab and use if needed, but you cannot carry it on your person.

Other sites just state you can have a loaded gun in your home without any extra details.

So, do you any of you know anything about the do's and dont's on this subject here in Cali?

Well you should really check the Cali firearms codes yourself, but my understanding is you can carry in your own house or store.

That's what my ccw instructor said, anyway.

But, since I have a Cali ccw license, I've never bothered to check myself.

I won't take what I hear on the internet as gospel, but more of a jumping off point. When I did a search on this, I did not come up with anything stating Cali's firearm codes on this but instead articles by various gun attorneys which like I said earlier, seem to have some ambiguous information thus the query here.
I didn't think to specifically put in the search box what you listed, let me try it.
Just pulled up a PDF DOC on the gun laws and codes and it is, at least to me, a little gray as to this point.

Think it through. To have a loaded firearm in your home you have to actually LOAD it and then PLACE it somewhere in your home. Obvious conclusion here is that at some point you will be carrying that loaded firearm within your home. Obvious conclusion is that if it's legal to have a loaded firearm in your home it is also legal to carry it in your home. However this is California and in that state basic logic doesn't seem to matter.

BTW, IMO if you have children in your home the ONLY safe place to have a loaded firearm is in a Holster that you are wearing. Quite simply no matter how well constructed your safe is children can display an amazing amount of patience an knowledge about dates important to their parents so one should never consider a safe to be adequate protection from a child resident in the home. The only way to keep children safe from mis-using firearms and causing harm is to train them properly and if they are too young to train keep firearms and ammunition SEPARATE unless you are in actual contact with that firearm 100% of the time. Note, this means that even a bedside safe shouldn't be considered safe, put the pistol in the safe and the ammo or magazine under your mattress.

Not necessarily. I see what you mean but you can load it and put it away without carrying. Youre probably thinking I take the gun, load it, then bring it to wherever in the house. However, you can have the gun in that spot, bring a loaded mag, insert it, chamber and put back. Or you can carry an unloaded gun with a mag in your pocket or other hand, bring it to wherever you want to keep it, insert the mag, chamber and put the gun away

I used to live in LA CA. I am glad that I live in VT now. I can CCW here.

In CA if you are in legal possession of the weapon you are free to carry it, open or concealed, in your own home or your own property. This would also include a place of business as long as that is a piece of real estate. (Taxi drivers have tried carrying without a permit on the basis that their vehicle is their place of business. Doesn't work.)

Before I moved away from California in 2014 it was still legal to carry a loaded weapon in your home or business. I never felt the need to do it as long as I had access to a weapon if the need presented itself. I kept a gun in my main living area, bedroom and garage for this reason.

There are companys who will jack up your home and carry it to another state.

Oregon and Nevada are easier than Arizona because you don't have to worry about weight restrictions on the bridge.

Carrying a firearm on your person on your property is NOT unlawful in CA, so long as the firearms is legally owned and you are not prohibited under law from possessing a firearm.

Reminds me of the discussions about open carry in CA, before that became illegal as well. It was legal a few year ago to open carry....just as long as the gun was not loaded. That made a lot of sense....

Back in my LA CA days, I used to CCW at home.
