Default Carrying Spare Ammo for Your 627 Pro Series (or other N-frame?)

What solution works best for you regarding carrying spare ammo for your N-frame revolver in a concealed-carry environment?

I picked on the 627 Pro specifically in my thread title because a). I've recently come into one of these beauties and b). this revolver, along with some others, is "moon-clip-capable."

I now have both a pair of 5-Star speedloaders and Tuff 8-shot Quickstrips and pouches for all of the above. I opted for the nylon pouches for the speedloaders and am, at this very early stage, a little less than thrilled with their construction - I will likely switch to something in leather from Lobo or Mernickle.

I'm pondering whether carrying loaded moon clips would be a better option than the speedloaders. I'm soon to hit the range to try it all out and will obviously need more practice beyond that. I have some snap-caps on order for good dry-firing-and-reloading practice.

In theory, I'm thinking that two speedloaders or moon clips with .357 rounds on-board coupled with two 8-shot Quickstrips with +P .38 Specials (that will work for both the 627 and my 638 BUG) would provide more than enough reload capacity. I'm still experimenting with how all of the above fits best on the belt.

Just wondering what those of you with some CCW time under your belts have found works best for you...thanks for any and all input!

I use my 627 Pro for CCW and I really like the DeSantis "Second Six" speedloader pouches. They work well with either the 5-Star loaders or with moonclips. Because they're designed to straddle the belt (4 rounds inboard, 4 rounds outboard), they offer less of a profile when worn under clothing.

When I carry revolvers as my primary, I always have at least two speedloaders (or moonclips) on the belt (sometimes four - depending on the situation), and two speed strips in a pocket.

Here are a couple of examples:

I use the same North Mountain single post moonclip holder for my 625 and 627. The post is tall enough that two reloads can be carried, one on top of the other. For me it's much more convenient than carrying speedloaders.

If you want a speed loader try wild bills custom. I had them make me a split carrier for my 625 and it also works for my 657. It'll take a few weeks but I love it, and unfortunately Lobo doesn't make speed loader carriers, believe me I asked. There is also andrew's custom leather you might want to check out.

Many thanks to all! I'm going ahead with my Wilderness Tactical nylon pouches for my 5-Star Loaders but am going to investigate some of these options. I'm also planning to post some pics now that a few accessories for my 627 have rolled in...awaiting some Ahrends grips as I type!

nebmike - I now remember you shared some of this info with me a few weeks back when I first got my 627. I wound up with a holster almost identical to yours, just without a thumb-break.
