Default NAA Mini Revolvers

Ok, I'll admit that I have a new addiction to these little buggers. I recently picked up a Pug in 22 WMR and am very pleased with the quality. Shooting these at 10-15 feet is not a problem with center of mass hits. The 22 WMR self defense ammo is not my first choice for CCW, however, around the house, it's so easy to carry.

I'm a S&W revolver guy for the last 35 years but these things are just neat and fun to shoot. Anyone else in to these mini revolvers?

Have had several over the years...and equipped right they can be quite the shooter.

At this point I have a Black Widow, Mini Master and standard Magnum.

GRIPS make all the difference in the world shooting these little guns. The Mini Master and BW are easy to shoot accurately because of the slightly larger grips...

5-10-25 yards..not feet... .22 Magnum both guns.

Mini Master...the 5 under the dot are the 25 yards group

BW...the paperplate was 25 yards 14/15 on the plate as fast as I could resight.

I think that the NAA Mini Revolvers are really nifty, especially the Ranger (top break) and Sidewinder (swing-out cylinder) models.

I was actually considering an NAA Sidewinder in .22WMR as a deep concealment piece a few years ago, but ultimately went with the Ruger LCP instead because the Sidewinder model was so expensive.

Still, I think that if deep concealment is a goal, then the NAA Mini Revolvers are the best option available due to their extremely small size yet relatively high capacity.

One of these days, I'd like to get one of their cheaper ones, just to have.

I have seen more of the NAA revolvers dropped than any other type of firearm.....when I challenge an owner to get off five quick shots...with only one hand....

About a year ago I went from a 2 shot derringer to a NAA mini mag with CV revision grips, for primary carry. MUCH nicer trigger, 3 more shots, lighter weight, easier to hit with. CCW for me is that 1 in 1000+ just in case. If I think I might need a gun I aint going, and if I have to go it won't be with a handgun. Yes I've listened to it all, "rimfire is not reliable" ( in the tens of thousands of rimfires I have shot over the years I have NEVER had one ftf) , "single action is to slow for follow up shots"( okay ya got me but I'm still okay with it), " you shoot me with that and I'll stick it up your...." ( never seen any of these tough guys vol. to try ) It works for me YMMV.

I’ve got one in .22 WMR that I’ve been known to pocket from time to time . . .

Can't say that I have ever carried mine... Did carry a High Standard Derringer in .22 Magnum for 11 years as a third-stringer to my duty gun and back-up Model 42...

But for DEEP cover I carry a KelTec P32...

I bought a Freedom Arms .22 magnum belt buckle gun back in 1980. Got the extra .22lr cylinder at the same time.

I bought the second mimi revolver a few years ago in .22lr because it was cute and cheap.
Same maker,Freedom Arms.Their production rights were bought by NAA over the years, who added some new models.

I use to carry mine...but even with .22 magnum loads...you are not going to stop much of a threat unless you shoot them in the eye...and that is a very small target for such a lucky shot type of gun. Plinking with them taught me how ineffective they were on anything thicker than skin.Better than nuffin for sure..but barely.

Out of the small barrels, there just is NO penetration, and with so many..heavy people in society nowadays....you ain't gonna hit anything vital with a center mass hit.Blubber and skin. Just going to piss them off...IF they find out you shot them.

Still cool little playtime guns...but NFW would I carry one for SD.

Waaay too many better choices today. Minimum I'll carry is a P32.

Read a story years ago...woman bought one of he "little" guns and a few days later was kidnapped and taken to a remote area probably to be raped and murdered.

Guy made the mistake of getting out of the car and walking around to get her out the passenger door. When he opened the door she fired one round and he ran...but not very far before he dropped...

In this case it was better than a sharp stick...

One of my friends always carried a FA .22 Short... He did a lot of diving in Cozumal, Mexico and didn't like to be there unarmed...so he smuggled one of the MiniRevolvers down there...and decided since he came back often to leave it there...buried in a waterproof container in a vacant area of beach near his usual hotel...

Everything worked great the next couple of times down there but about the third trip...he found a new hotel on top of his gun...

^ I shot mine enough that the front sight fell off. Never found it. Didn't hurt accuracy one bit!

Cute for sure, deadly too but still not my choice of carry.

They are fun little guns. Better than nothing? Yes. First choice? No. But I know a guy who used one to put down a deer that had been hit by a car. As said, better than a sharp stick.

High quality, challenging, cute, fun... but 38Sp is my minimum nowadays.

Made some grips and filed the half-moon down to a ramp on mine.

Have one with both the LR and Mag cylinders. Walking the dog gun. Anybody who thinks the 22 mag won't stop a conflict should by all means carry a bigger gun. I have yet to meet the person who is willing to get shot.

I'm more worried about meeting a person in the dark who can't see my itty bitty gun. They have to know it's there to be deterred by it.

Has anyone tried rat shot with these? I’ve had good luck with it on snakes, but only if the snake is still there after I go to the house for a gun. One of these would be handy to take to the barn, and maybe it would work as well as my MK II.

I had a sparrow stuck in my shop. No matter what I did it would not fly out or allow capture.I wanted to leave for the day but could not arm the alarm system with a bird in the building.(motion sensors)
I got my .22 FA revolver and I shot at that bird at 5-10 feet till I ran out of .22lr bird shot cartridges and it was still very much alive. I did manage to take out an 8 foot flourescent bulb with it though. That scared the bird more than the gun shots.
I went and got my Chiappa garden gun which uses 9mm flobert shot rounds and took it out with one shot. So..if you ask me if .22 bird shot cartridges work..I'll tell you no...unless you need to bust up some light bulbs.

One of the few handguns that I consider a true “pocket gun”.

Pictured with one of my J-frames.

Whenever a 22 is brought up in a defensive scenario there always seems to be at least one fool who tries to tell everyone it couldn't kill a wounded mouse and your super attacker probably wouldn't even notice you shot him with it, I see that trend continues in this discussion...

Hey, I'll have you know that my father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate had a friend, who had an acquaintance who once spoke to a man on a back of a bus who recited the story of how his grandfather had once witnessed a fellow moonshiner get shot with a .22 pistol during the prohibition, to which the moonshiner simply went back to his truck, retrieved a shovel, then beat the shooter to death with impunity.

So yeah, .22LR is completely nonlethal based on the testimony of an admitted moonshiner in a story which was passed on through multiple people who could have easily altered the details down the line.

But if you want to trust your life to a lil' itty bitty .22 peashooter then that's your prerogative! Just don't be surprised when the Crackerjack Boys break into your house at precisely O300 as they are known to do in their feverish pursuit of their next big caramel corn fix, and you lack the necessary firepower to lay down suppressive fire in order to fall back to a strategically advantageous position, or the necessary mounted optical red dot sight to pull off precision headshots, much less have the necessary penetration to get through their car door shields!

Personally, I'll stick with my Tactical Pterodactyl 1DR9 MyCrow custom fitted with a SOLJUR Crimson Sphere Whiskey Tango Foxtrot optic, and loaded up with 12 rounds of 115gr +P+P+P+ Hertenberger Buscadero Ticondas tucked safely within my Max Clinger Crotch Carry Holster, as recommended by Corporal Jebb Ceautur of Mall Ninjas Quarterly because I take my self-defense dead seriously!

Let me ask a question. Just for discussion's sake, how many of you here would like to get shot in the face with one of these? Maybe up to five times?

It's a "get the hell off of me" emergency device, not a rootin' tootin' fight stopper.

I carry one of these in my pocket, even when carrying a much more potent gun.

John

I've been tempted over the years but I would rather carry a real gun. Hard to shoot well, impossible to reload if you ever had to and in a somewhat unreliable cartridge. Much easier to hide than a stick though! I've witnessed several Homicides and suicides in my career where the .22 worked as intended so not going to volunteer to stand in front of one. They are cute.

I don't wanna get shot with a rubber band, but that ain't make it no fight stopper!

Crackerjack Boys on the other hand, they outright enjoy being shot on account of the superhuman abilities they've been granted as a result of their otherwise crippling chemical dependency on caramel corn, so if you want to stop them you need the unsurpassed stopping power of the legendary 9mm Luger cartridge, or better yet, the mythical 5.56 NATO if you want to be sure.

Black Widow in .22mag is my primary carry. Even the alloy J-frame 351c seems large in comparison.

I have a regular 22 and a sidewinder. They're great when you really can't carry anything else.
And no, I wouldn't like to be shot with 5 22's either. 😬

I'm honestly just doing a parody of some of the absurd statements/responses I've seen online complete with some exaggerated parodied names of tacticool gear that keyboard commandos are always plugging as part of their loadouts.

Part of me hopes that if I preemptively point out how foolish they sound then less folks will ruin the thread by posting such nonsense. The thread is about the NAA Mini Revolver, not a contest to see whose the most masculine guy who unironically admits to being afraid of being struck by a rubber band and attempts to push their 9mm micro-compact as a real-man's weapon by comparing it to a .22 Mini Revolver, complete with farcical anecdotes regarding the alleged ineffectiveness of .22LR/.22WMR.

Cannot hit squat with my Black Widow anyway, so took off target sights (dealer error I foolishly accepted) and reduced grips and added cute black widow pocket holster. Mostly waits for me to tire of my LCP Custom.
Sure is cute though. Maybe five .22 HP mags trump 6 PPK .32 ball?
Never dropped it, seemingly against all odds.
Still want a long gun if the shtf at my house.

This is what all the tacticool mall ninjas who say it's useless don't get. I once read an article where someone was interviewing Louis Seecamp about his excellent little .32. The question was asked why there were no sights on the gun. He reportedly replied, "Cause it's not that kinda gun! You stick it in the nearest bodily orifice and trigger repeatedly!" Same thing applies to the mini revolvers.

If it wasn't already made abundantly clear by their love of red dot optics on micro-compact 9mm pistols, Mall Ninjas cannot comprehend the concept of having to shoot someone at a distance shorter than 100 yards, much less at distances in which taking careful aim is unfeasible.
But then again, when you believe that handguns are borderline useless for self-defense because apparently nobody has ever broken off an attack after sustaining a gunshot wound which wasn't immediately incapacitating or otherwise fatal, I suppose that you would believe that you need to always take careful aim at a vital spot because no way is anyone ever going to decide that they have better places to be after taking 5 shots to the abdomen, for instance.

Of course, this is where they would argue that you cannot count on psychological stops in a gunfight and how someone on drugs wouldn't stop because they don't feel pain, they can't be bargained with, they can't be reasoned with, they don't feel pity, or remorse, or fear, and they absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.
Still, for those of us who don't necessarily want to live by the sword and carry miniature duty weapons in our day-to-day lives on the off chance that we're attacked by drug-addicted killing machines, smaller weapons like Mini Revolvers or Pocket Pistols are better than a sharp stick, and should be capable of fending off just about anything short of a highly motivated drug-addict hopped up on whatever drug makes them into a fearless, painless, relentless terminator.

But enough about those folks, since they fortunately have stayed out of the thread so far and hopefully will stay out, lets talk about the NAA Mini Revolvers. No sense derailing the thread over phantom arguments by folks who aren't even here.

I wish that NAA would offer a slightly larger revolver about the size of the old Taurus View chambered in .22WMR, with a good 10 rounds in the cylinder, that way you'd still have a small, lightweight, easy-to-conceal Revolver, but in higher capacity with a DA trigger and a grip more easy to hold.

I carry one of these in my pocket, even when carrying a much more potent gun.

My 22/22WMR has a similar folding grip. It's fairly substantial in the hand. I have never had the experience of using it for self defense, thank goodness. I know lots of LEO's who carry one tucked in their vest. As has been said, this is a last ditch weapon.

This thread inspired me to toss my .22 Mag NAA retired Onion Field gun into the range bag today. Only 3 of the five loaded rounds went off, though the other two did on the second time around. Gonna have to give it a good cleanout and see what’s up.

On the other hand my 100 year old Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless breezed through two boxes of Herters FMJ without a hitch.

I own both. Can’t beat either one for saving your life or having fun on the range . . .

Question; can those grips be unfolded easily with one-hand like a pocket knife?

The fold up grip can be tensioned to your preference with the mounting screw. My wife bought one on the suggestion of the lady at our LGS, she is built similar to my wife and told her it can be worn clipped to the bra for extra backup. It does take awhile to " unholster ", but it's better than a pocket knife.
Tactically speaking, I think it needs a red dot sight and a high capacity cylinder.

I would love to have a NAA revolver, but every time I go to buy one I see something better for the money.

Friend has a PUG in 22 WMR. Was shooting it at the range, and slowly the whole place got quite as folks started looking over to see what she was shooting. Drew a crowd of folks. Plus, at an indoor range, those little rascals are noisy for their size.
Not first line of defense, but a good “get off me” backup.

More quickly for me. Mine has a 1 1/2 inch barrel and I open the grip as I'm drawing the gun.

My son-in-law has one of these little revolvers in .22 Mag. He absolutely hates snakes. Actually, he's terrified of them which is strange because I've never seen him be fearful of anything else including some fairly fearful critters. But I digress. He called me this afternoon. He's having a really bad day. He always carries his little revolver with the first two rounds as shot cartridges. By 3:00 this afternoon he had killed 3 rattlesnakes around the old homestead and he was kinda shaky. He has kids, dogs, calves and horses out there so no rattlers allowed. Anyway, he reports the shot cartridges worked fine. Each snake got two for good measure. He's gonna have to find some more ammo. Now my daughter wants one too.

I'd like to get the Ranger II break top with the 2.5" barrel in .22 Mag. But I haven't ever come across one.

I carry the small .22 LR model in an equally small eyeglass case on my belt, but only when I'm fishing. The farmer doesn't like having bowfins, a primitive fish that competes with bass. He wants me to shoot them when I catch them. Haven't missed yet from a range of 2 inches. They start to smell as soon as you shoot them. You'd have to be awful hungry to eat one.

Pretty spendy for what they are. But...I like the little break open ones.
