Default Gun in luggage, LEOSA, the Red Sox, and more...

First, apologies for being a bit long winded herein.

Traveled to Boston from DC last Thursday for a 5 night visit and flew, as usual, via US Airways. This time I checked in at their DCA lower level site as I traveled via Metro. Announced a gun was in my checked bag; no problem. Signed the orange card and stuck it in my suitcase. The TSA bag check area there is literally an arm's reach away...NO exaggeration. They asked me to leave it unlocked and sent it into a machine that "shaked, rattled, and rolled." Soon sent it out the other end; I asked them to roll the TSA combo locks. No issues.

Retrieved my bag in Boston, hopped onto a T bus and was soon at my hotel. Found TSA had opened my suitcase somewhere; will disappoint some to learn they again had NO problem(s) with my use of TSA locks on the gun case as well as the suitcase. Sorry, those who doubt that TSA locks are, indeed, okay.

Wandered about the streets of Boston that evening and ALL DAY Friday. I will verify at least an eight (8) mile trek Friday. (BTW, stopped at the Purple Shamrock in the North End for $2.00 Bud's...16 oz. version. Nice.)

Saturday I walked from my hotel to Harvard Stadium for the Major League Lacrosse Championship first round. Another six (6) miles but beautiful both weather and walk-wise. T back downtown for dinner. What is noteworthy here (I think) is I used a Remora IWB and NO ISSUES WHATSOVER. Very comfortable with a M60-NY1. Wholly undetectable, too.

Back to Harvard Sunday for Bayhawks v. Outlaws; good guys prevailed.

To Red Sox game Monday afternoon. There is nothing better than day baseball, IMHO. Another long walk made better with COLD Narragansetts (multiple) at the end.

Walking back to hotel happened upon a dude jumping into Fort Point Channel from the Summer Street Bridge. Though I didn't see the actual jump, man was in the water just below me as others were pondering what they should do. Duh!!!! Dialed 9-1-1 and reported the "man in the water." Monitored his situation until help arrived. Yes, he did jump and was a very strong swimmer. However, it must be noted that it's about a 30' leap and he was wearing long pants and a shirt. Most bridge divers don't do that. Multiple PSA agencies responded. Think jumper is now in a rubber room somewhere.

Flew home today. Again, no issues with bag check; gun and rest of scontents arrived with the bag at DCA...safe and sound.

Summary: No TSA issues; Remora is great; Bayhawks won; day baseball is cool; Narragansett and Bud beers are cold.

Be safe.

Looks as though someone really had some fun in Boston

You sure hit some good spots, the North End is a great area.

And Fenway Park Don't think I have to say anything, you were there.

Glad you enjoyed your visit in Boston.

Great post...and you certainly seemed to have a fine time. I had a similar experience a few weeks ago when traveling from Denver to Los Angeles. Flew on Southwest...used a GunVault lock box...declared I had it...TSA ran the suitcase through x-ray and sent it on its way. When I got home I also noticed TSA opened the suitcase somewhere along the way (using my TSA lock), and my gun was there. Like you, I had no problems whatsoever.

I'm headed to Boston, NY,NY and other points soon.
I want to take in either a NFL or MLB game. Did you take your pistol into the baseball game?

I'm HR218 retired and qualified.
So for any of you back East can I get my pistol into large stadiums while watching an event?

I've flown to Houston once and Maui twice with a Glock 26 with no problems. And I did register my gun with Maui Police. Even HR218 Qualed I was limited to ten round mags in Hawaii.

Emory, I did NOT carrry at Fenway Park. I do NOT carry in places where it is prohibited. Similarly, I do NOT carry at Ravens Stadium. Likely you would have no issues with LEOSA creds...but IMHO you would never have a problem with self-preservation at either venue.

Enjoy your trip east; you will have big fun!!!

Be safe.

Were you lucky enough to see the Red Sox win one of their few games of the year?

Big D, let me get this straight. You are saying that the use of TSA locks did not result in your detainment or the closing of the airport? You are saying that in fact you used TSA approved locks and were still able to enjoy yourself in Boston - without any encumbrance from Homeland Security?

You are pulling our chain, right?

Most states dont allow you to carry at sporting events unless you are an active, on-duty LEO on official business.

I dont think LEOSA allows you to carry in places where you are legally prohibited from doing so under state and federal laws (sporting events, federal buildings, schools, bars, etc).

I'm sure someone who knows for sure will pipe in.

Indeed, Out West. TSA locks caused (again) no issues whatsoever. All was good at Reagan National and Logan.

Be safe.

Default SAWX WIN!!!

5-1 W for the Bosox. But actually did not care. I simply love day baseball. And the Sox sellout streak continued despite this season's ineptitude. Many thought the big trade and Monday game with kids back in school would bring it to a halt. Nope.

Be safe.

You are spot on, nipster. LEOSA does not preempt such laws except many states don't forbid carry in bars and restaurants that serve alcohol. Did not carry at Fenway though I saw no signage banning it.

In addition, most (?) jurisdictions do NOT prohibit CCW for off-duty personnel except in rare circumstances. General theory is LEO's have implied authority to carry a gun where they have arrest authority. "Arrest authority" generally is not dependent on duty status.
