Default IL resident preparing for Conceal Carry

My home defense gun is a M&P FS 40. I bought it over a year ago back when cc in Illinois was not even on the radar as a possibility. With the court ruling in Dec, and thinking I would get ahead of the mad rush of holsters. I went and ordered a Crossbreed Super Tuck Deluxe. So it arrived last week and I have been messing around with it at my home, trying different positions of the clips etc. But I am really just shooting in the dark as far as what works. I'm a larger framed guy 5'11 and about 230. I have been wearing it about 5pm and its comfortable there at least the short time I wear it around the house. Now I have to still get a real gun belt, and I understand that will make a difference in comfort. But Ive just been using a thicker leather belt for now. My problem is no matter wear I seam to place the holster the grip protrudes out from my back (wearing a untucked t shirt).

So I guess what I am asking is there any suggestions as far as the clips placement that seems to work better than others, or is this an issue I am going to have because of the weapon being full size.

Thanks for any help and suggestions

You are not using clips, but magazines. You need a magazine pouch (1 or 2 holder) and for a right hander they are usually placed between 7:30 and 10 o'clock, depending on each person.

For belt, get a double thick leather one like a Milk Sparks Milt Sparks Holsters or if non-leather, get this one: Original S.O.E. Gear

Also, I wouldn't necessarily go for most comfortable but ease of access (or at least a good in between option). 5 oclock can be a little hard to get to at times, especially while driving. If you fall, you have the possibility of breaking your back, if it is close to 6oclock.

From what I understand, your issue at the moment is the grip printing under a t-shirt? Get a looser shirt, put on a jacket, or switch to in front of the hip.

Clips were the clips on crossbreed holster as in belt clips. Thanks for links to the belts

If yer printing too much at 5 o'clock, try switching to an appendix-carry to see if that would work for you. I have been carrying one of my 340's there for years.

good info on replys^^^^^^. de santis has a mini scabbard /rention holster for many pistols. it is an OWB, but keeps the weapon close to the waist. bianchi makes an ACCUMOLD holster that also holds the weapon close to the waist. and holds it shape for years. the grip might print at different times w/ most holsters. up @ the range a few weeks ago before the sub freeze came in, was shooting next to a guy up at the club, it was cold, maybe 5' 11", 290 lbs., we got talking, next thing i see him put down 3 M&P's that he was wearing on his belt. so not all people watch for a PRINT when they see you.

Try wearing it at 3-3:30. I'm 6/02 240 and it works good for me.

Don't waste your money. You may get concealed carry in Illinois by the 22 century. We are trying to fight off a ban and with Sandy Hook so fresh, the courts are not going near Illinois concealed carry. Timing is everything and timing is not on your side right now.

Experiment with getting the gun as low to the waist as you can while changing the cant so the grip angles forward and does not extend beyond the torso. On my Supertucks, the clip is fastened to the second hole from the top in the front and the second hole from the bottom in the rear. That plus belt position make a difference. You have to experiment to see what works for you.

Sorry but you haven't kept up with what's going on in IL. About a month ago the federal appellate court ruled IL's lack of CCW unnconstitutional and it gave the IL legislature 180 to pass some kind of CCW statute. The way the court ruling is worded at the end of the 180 days IL will have CCW but the court gave the legislature that long to decide what kind of CCW law. If the legislature doesn't act then CCW become law without the legislature's action.
There are at least 2 bills waiting to be introduced as soon as the legislature comes back in to session. One of those bills is nearly identical to the bill that was narrowly defeated last session. That bill received a majority of the votes at that time. However, because the bill was to override home rule it required a super majority.

I just got a new holster and I tried it at appendix, 4, then 3. All of those caused me to print badly because of my scrawny body type. But at 2 it conceals well I think. Of course I could put it at those other positions and just get more clothes. However, they wouldn't be as fast a draw as at 2. I was hoping Appendix would work well. Oh well. Do is just about as good.
