Weights of carry guns
out of curiosity, and because my wife was not around, i took out her nice kitchen scale (accurate to the 1/8 oz), and decided to weigh some guns.
1911 commander, loaded 8+1 (230gr ball) = 2lb, 10-1/8oz
SW40VE, loaded 14+1 (165gr hp) = 2lb, 0oz.
329PD, loaded with 6 (200gr hp)= 1lb, 14-1/2oz
some interesting tradeoffs to consider.

You got my curiosity up so I got my Salter digital scale and my two favorite carry weapons.
1. S&W model 469, 12+1 9mm 2lb 1oz.
2. Kahr CM9, 6+1 9mm 1lb 4oz.
Both work well in a IWB holster, but the Kahr gets most of the warm and summer work. Less than desirable locations always get the 469, if I am able to plan ahead, which is not always possible, but one is always with me.

Weight has definately become a factor as I age,
and I have continued to move to Airlite Ti guns. I like 5 shot L frames in 44 Special, 625-10, and 325 in 45ACP. My 329PD comes in at 32oz, and the 625-10 at 28oz, both loaded.

Been without my 442 for 2 weeks now. Carrying my fnx9 has been a shock to the system to say the least.

Because the weight of The Governor had been
mentioned in a few threads, I did some weighing.
The post below is a copy & paste from
one of those, earlier, threads.
-----------------------------------------------------
Because someone mentioned how heavy the
Governor was it got me to wondering about
this so I went and did some checking.
I used digital postal scales that were zeroed in
before each weight was taken so I'm probably
pretty close to the actual weights.
The 3" 686+, loaded with 7 rounds of Buffalo Bore
.38 SPL +P, 158 gr lead semi-wadcutter hp's, weighed,
2 lb. 7.7 oz.
The 2.5" Model 66-2, with 6 rd's of the same Buffalo Bore
ammo listed above, weighed,
2 lb. 3.4 oz. (same as the Gov w/250 gr. Speer Gold Dots)
The Governor weights are below:
6 rounds Speer Gold Dot .45 Colt, 250 gr. hp
2 lb. 3.4 oz.
6 rounds Federal LE Classic "Hi-Shok" .45 acp, 185 gr. hp
2 lb. 2.2 oz. (with Moon Clip)
6 rounds Federal Handgun .410 (2.5") 000 buck
2 lb. 3.1 oz.
All 3 guns had Crimson Trace LG-306 Grips
(as shown in photo below)
Based on the above, the Governor, even with the heaviest rounds, weighs
the same as a 2.5" M66-2 with 158 gr. LSWC Buffalo Bore Ammo.

My 442 EDC weighs in at 16 ozs loaded in its Uncle Mikes #3 pocket holster. Given my age and physical problems (a few to say the least) this is the most gun I know will be w/me, always. IMHO small and light gets carried, big and heavy [eventually] gets left behind.

Ok, I had to check. My 442 with a Pachmayr Compact grip and Laserlyte laser weighs 20.50 ounces loaded, 18.40 unloaded.
The Pachmayr grips weigh 4.65 ounces, Uncle Mikes boot grips weigh 2.05 ounces.
My 442 with the boot grips weighs 17.95 ounces loaded and 15.85 unloaded.
I'd like to carry with the boot grips but they just don't work with my hands.

Let's get crazy! Ready? J-frame grip weights (on jeweler's scale, converted to ozs):
Uncle Mike's boot: 2.1 oz
S&W boot copy: 1.64 oz
Hogue boot: 1.3 oz
S&W wood magna 'peanut': .92 oz
(+ T-grip): 1.4 oz
I have a life, folks. Really, I do!

Shield 40 6 rnds= 23.8 oz
CS9 7rnds= 25.4 oz
CS40 6rnds= 30.7 oz
CS45 6 rnds= 30.4 oz (surprised me a little that the CS40 was a tad more

Single lever with BigDog Delrin grips)

The actual weight of the gun can be negated by using a quality fitting holster on a "good" proper belt.

As H Richard said holster and belt choice can make all the carry comfort difference with larger guns.
We all know handgun selection requires some level of compromise for every use. If weight along with true conceal-ability and caliber effectiveness are the primary considerations I believe either of the pictured pistols would be a good choice. The S&W Shield in 9mm weighs in at 19 ounces empty. The Springfield XDs 45 ACP weighs in at 21.5 empty....

but an empty gun is rather useless. what are the weights loaded?
had my 1911 commander on all day, quite comfy with a good belt and good holster.
