I just picked up a Maxpedition Jumbo....great bag for knocking around and, more important for me, it's a very comfortable motorcycle bag - either over the shoulder (as it is intended) or fastened to the sissy bar.

One of the feature of the bag is a compartment for your carry gun - actually big enough for a full size pistol or even an iPad.

Do any of you use the Maxpedition - or similar - for concealed carry? Thoughts or comments about the bags - regardless of CC status?

In my short experience, they're extremely well made, very comfortable, and very useful.

Thanks, as always.

On my recent trip to Texas, when I couldn't carry my CC on my belt, I carried it in a Duluth Trading Company unit, I believe its called a Field House Bag. I had all my camera gear in it also. It worked out well, as the bag is rugged with plenty of compartments.

Off-body carry is not my preferred method, as too much can go wrong (misplaced, forgotten, or stolen) and it can be difficult to access weapon while under duress.

However, when absolutely necessary, I do use a Maxpedition bag that is more of a messenger bag style.

The top zipper can be left unzipped, for easy reaching into the bag and obtaining a firing grip.

If off-body carry is necessary....Maxpedition makes one of the best products available.

Bought a Maxpedition KISS versi-pack, was constructed well. The problem I had with it was the main compartment could not be closed, so when it rained I had moisture getting into the top of my bag. The material is very stiff and noisy, so you can rule out stealth with these. I ended up getting a UTG bag with more pockets, a main compartment closure and no NOISY fabric for a third of the price. I had a seamstress friend sew in a drawstring bag to the main compartment of the Max, but I still carry the UTG everyday

Whenever I see a Maxpedition pack, I presume there is a gun in it. I don't know how that ties into another's defintion of concealed carry, but it does not fit within mine.

I carry one of two Maxpedition bags all of the time. One is a Multi-Purpose Bag, a combination briefcase/computer bag and the other is an earlier Versipack. No one pays any attention as I always have one, yet no one knows whether or not I have a gun with me. There are many times I can't carry on person, so this is a viable option (at least for me).

My hunting day pack is a Maxpedition Fatboy S-type Jumbo Versipack, it holds everything I need for an unexpected night in the woods. It has a paracord storm collar to help keep the contents water resistant. I like the fact that it rides on my left hip when carrying a rifle on my right side of the body.

I have one of the small/medium models and it works well for hiking. There's enough room for my sidearm of choice, as well as a bunch of day pack supplies. I was impressed with the quality and amount of space.

I carry off body when my back is acting up. I made a messenger bag with 3 compartments. the larger center pocket holds my 2.5" or 3" barrel 686 and a couple reloads. I wear it over my neck and if in the truck or seated in a restaurant or theater it can rest at my side.

I have one that slings over one shoulder that I use
during deer season. Neat rig.
I know a dude that buys every use Maxpedition Bag he comes across.
Sets up at gunshows and sells the heck outta them.
His table is clear end of show. Great product.

Guys...thanks for your comments. I agree that off body is not preferred, but it is acceptable to me in a variety of situations...hiking for one and I have a motorcycle trip planned soon so I will give it a try. July in Texas is just way too hot for normal IWB or OWB concealed carry. I'm impressed with the rugged construction and design. It just seems to stay put whether it's by my side or shoved around back.

I've used a Maxpedition Versipack for my motorcycle carry for about five years. I've never counted on it to keep my handgun dry in a downpour, so I can't comment on its waterproof abilities. I do like the fact that it lets me carry necessities when I'm off the bike, and it's also handy to have stowed in the truck for a day hike. So far, I've noticed no signs of unusual wear. It's a good, quality product, and I think you'll be happy with it. 5.11 also makes a good over the shoulder pack for concealed carry that I've heard others recommend.

I have a couple of Maxpedition bags. One is a Jumbo VP. If it suggests CC, well then maybe I am and maybe I'm not. Care to find out?

I like their gear.

My life has been one of a bagaholic. I can't tell you how many backpacks, bags, cases, etc. are lying around here. Maxpedition are good to go.

Not quite as obvious as a funny pack.

Five years....good enough experience for me! I am not a fan of riding in downpours, I don't expect you are either. But, it seems like it would do a reasonably good job of keeping things dry.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

I have a Maxpedition Fatboy. Awesome bag... Great for a compact... Looks like a camera bag... Not a purse... John Q. Public does not immediately think "gun".

I, like most of my co-workers, carry a computer bag/backpack. Mine is from Condor Outdoor. I think it is called the Urban Something-or-other Bag. I'm not always lugging a laptop around and I have found that the section for the laptop (which is accessed from outside) is great for stuffing a large frame auto and extra mag in. I will sometimes carry two guns and that is where the second rides.

Could it have been the "Fire Hose Field Bag with Leather Trim"?

I thought for a long while about getting a versipack to help me carry some things to work on days that I ride the motorcycle. I finally saw a forum member selling one and jumped on it. It has a special compartment in the back to carry a handgun and even an optional holster. I took the holster out of the pocket and it's a perfect fit for my 5" 1911. Even after adding saddlebags I still like to sling the versipack over my shoulder when I'm going for a decently long ride, just to keep my carry gun closer to me.
