Adding a 2nd gun to CCW ridiculousness!
I bought a small frame revolver about a little over a month ago for easy concealment reasons.
- So, first, as required I waited for 7 days cool-off period even though I have another handgun in my possession as a CCW.
- Then I paid $50 to qualify with my gun by an NRA certified instructor.
- Then he sent my qualification papers to Sheriffs Dept and two days later I called them if they received it and they said "Yes".
So I asked when I can come to get my new paper with this new gun added to my permitted carry list.
They said we will call you...
It was 3 weeks ago...
So as a CCW who already carrying legally, after finding a different gun to carry at a gun shop it has been 5 weeks nearly and I am still waiting with no idea how many more days this ridiculous process will take...
Oh well...

You need to move north (or east) I have many fond memories of California, but thankfully they are of a distant past in a simpler time.

I'm surprised that you can get a CC license in the Republik of Kalifornia. I lived in L.A. until I was 35 (1992), and I never heard of anyone ever getting one unless they were a movie star or a politician. You must live up north in a somewhat more rural county.
In spite of most rank and file LEO's seeming to be in favor of concealed carry by good citizens, mangement & "city hall" seems to be against it, so that long wait is probably standard operating procedure for issuing concealed-carry paperwork-- dragging their feet just because they can.

I'm glad where I live we just have a "Concealed Carry License" and open carry is legal if one chooses to.

In Washington there is no testing (written or practical) required for getting a "license to carry concealed pistol". The down side of that is that some states (most notably Oregon) do not have reciprocal carry privileges with Washington. Washington also does not require that you list which gun(s) will be carried when exercising the privileges of that license.

Some counties such as Kern County, Fresno County and others (central & northern CA counties) are still pretty CCW friendly. Its the southern CA counties like LA County and Orange County where its nearly impossible to get a CCW.

The only reason I step foot in California is for that stupid mouse and now my youngest is 12 those days are numbered.
Darn it I forgot about grandchildren ! I guess I will be making more trips in the future to see the mouse and breath some clean air.

I think I know the answer, but.....
If you DO secure a ccw from a more "gun tolerant" county, does that allow one to carry in ALL counties of CA?

I live by the beach in Central CA, near San Francisco...
and yes, somehow I was able to get a CCW.
But after all that hoopla just to ADD a NEW GUN to my CCW waiting for over a month and still no light at the end of the tunnel is the issue here.
God knows how long this will take?
I mean what is the problem?
My CCW is current, gun is in my possession, I qualified with it as required, Sheriff's Dept have the paperwork...
Gun bought legally and is in the list of Permitted guns list for CA.
So, shortly what is the wait for????
That's what I don't get!

You mean that each individual gun that you wish to carry has to be on your permit?
I'd be screwed, as I buy, sell, and trade guns frequently!
Pray for change in your state Govt's mindset! (or get more voters to the polls!)

No you can only list max of 3 guns on your permit in CA...
You may own 100 handguns but only carry concealed 3 of them listed on your permit...
Oh what a joy !

The problem is the people that keep getting re-elected there. Until they change, nothing else will.
As mentioned, your local Sheriff is dragging his feet because he can and its not high priority for them. Probably when you queried them about it you went to the bottom of the pile also

These discussions are always an eye opener for me as a Kentuckian. We have so few gun laws and requirements. When I tell people about all the stuff in other states they look at me like I'm from Mars.
There is a range qualification to get a concealed carry permit in Ky, but the requirements explicitly state it doesn't have to be a gun you intend to carry and there's no review process whatsoever for what you'd carry. Just another way Cali has found to try to hassle people into not exercising their 2A rights.
A separate qualification for each one, 3 max? wow. hang in there, don't let the so-and-sos win.

In North Carolina, to purchase a pistol, you have to get a permit from the local sheriff's department. If you have a CCW, that is waved, so there is no added wait, just fill out the paper and leave with your gun.
You do not have to qualify with the gun you choose to carry and they are not listed on your CCW.
I had a CCW in Broward County Florida, before the CCW laws went to the shall issue status and the guns had to be listed on the permit.

My Californian friends (now living in Baja) told me not to bother going back to visit the area I once lived, that it would just ruin my good memories. Unfortunately, many new Texans are from California and are bringing their formula for failure with them.(they're the ones with California tags and "keep austin wierd" bumper stickers)

I feel for you Cpt.Jim. I live in Kern. If I want to change or add a gun, I just have to drop by the Sheriff's substation, pay $2 and in about three days I have a new license. I've done this a few times without an issue.

Yes, there are only 3 lines on the permit. Why that is no one seems to know, but there it is. And yes, any gun you want to carry has to be listed on the permit with the serial number.
The laws in CA are very vague. Every issuing agency has the ability to add restrictions. For example, I only have to qualify with one gun. It doesn't even have to be the gun I carry. I just need to attend the class.

It's still a great place to live. The land is beautiful and full of things you can't see anywhere else on the planet. Where I live the people are nice and respectful. I like my job and can't do it anywhere else in the country.
It's just the gun laws that suck.

I feel for you guys that have to live under this kind of regime! Here in Oklahoma, If you qualify with a semi auto, you can carry a pistol or a wheel gun. I'm gathering from whats been said here that your CC's have to be registered as such, & you can only carry the weapon or weapons that are designated & registered as such. If that is correct, all I can say is wow! We don't have to put up with that here.

No, that's not quite right.
All handguns must be registered in CA. They don't have to be registered as a CCW gun. They just have to be listed on your license.

Glad I live in Alabama. All you have to do is buy the gun and after the federal check ,about 10 minutes or so, walk out with your weapon. The permit process is about as short. Usually you just fill out the paperwork and pay the fee $7.00 to &20.00 depending on the county you live in and 2 or 3 days later you have your permit, unless you know the Sheriff, then it's about 10 minutes or so. No restriction on your carry piece or how many you carry. They will recommend that you keep track of the serial # of your weapons in case the are stolen.

Oh my God! Blood must be flowing like a raging river in your streets!
with that easy process to get a gun I bet everybody must be shooting everyone there...
You gave me the wrong change, BANG!
Did you just laugh at me? BANG!
What do you mean we don't serve from breakfast menu after 10:00am? BANG!
Quick run out of that gun crazy state to our safe, peaceful, heavenly state of California to save your life!
Millions of illegals are doing it!
They must know something that you don't...
UPDATE :
My Ruger LCR was purchased on September 1, 2013 in order to add my CCW as my 2nd carry gun.
As of October 17th 2013, no word yet from Sheriffs Dept.
Waiting continues!

What do they say about a armed society being a polite society. When I was on the streets, almost everyone that I had contact with was armed and had a permit.

I live in Wisconsin. To get my ccw I had to send proof of hunters safety certificate and $50.00 for my permit. I can carry whatever I want and as many as I want. I do not have to register any firearm. To be honest even having to do that irritates me. It's simply unconstitutional.
