Default Blued Steel CCW

While I'm constantly reminded on the internet (this forum excluded of course ) that carrying a 1911 or (gasp) a revolver for personal defense is less than optimal for a steely eyed CCW "Operator," I just can't bring myself to abandon either in favor of a more "modern design." After all, I have found nothing that points so naturally for me as a S&W Model 27, or carries so well as a 1911 in a Sparks SSII. And don't even get me started on the triggers these two guns typically come with: smooth, crisp and no squishy "sprong." These guns are rugged, as well as beautiful and are for me the pinnacle of carry guns.

This is not to say that carrying these guns isn't without their limitations. They are heavy (relatively speaking) and the capacity of each pales in comparison to their polymer cousins. That said, a good holster and belt goes a long ways to making these guns very carryable. As for the capacity issue, I fall into the mindset expressed by the late Stephen A. Camp that in most civilian CCW situations, we will often run out of time before ammunition.

To each his own I say. And for me, that will always include a gun with blued steel and wood riding in quality leather.

While no where as handsome as your posted weapons, I do agree with carrying heavy steel for self defense:

Steel is good.

Most of us would be better served losing a few pounds off our backsides rather than worrying about a few ounces of gun.
