Default West VA Honors Iowa . . . IL Non-Res Permit?? . . . Handgunlaw.us Changes . . .

West Virginia now honors Iowa. West Virginia will add more states but no time table has been given on when they will add them to their list. Iowa honors all other states. West Virginia “SHOULD” add Alabama, Indiana, Montana, Nebraska and Nevada in the coming months. Reason being those states already honor West Virginia and West Virginia just has to go through the process of getting an agreement or something in writing from that states “Governor” stating they honor the West Virginia permit for West Virginia to honor them.

Illinois New Carry Law Section 40. Non-resident license applications.

(a) For the purposes of this Section, "non-resident" means a person who has not resided within this State for more than 30 days and resides in another state or territory.

(b) The Department shall by rule allow for non-resident license applications from any state or territory of the United States with laws related to firearm ownership, possession, and carrying, that are substantially similar to the requirements to obtain a license under this Act.

(c) A resident of a state or territory approved by the Department under subsection (b) of this Section may apply for a non-resident license. The applicant shall apply to the Department and must meet all of the qualifications established in Section 25 of this Act, except for the Illinois residency requirement in item (xiv) of paragraph (2) of subsection (a) of Section 4 of the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act.

So it looks like Illinois will have to approve a state before a resident of that state can apply for a non resident permit in Illinois. The list could be very long or it could be very short. I have seen posts with non-residents wondering if they should take the class now and apply early or wait. Handgunlaw.us advises all non residents to wait to take the class as it could be a waste of money if your resident state is not on the approved list.

On a side note The San Francisco Supervisors have passed a bill that would outlaw the possession of any magazine that can hold more than 10 rounds and parts kits that can convert a magazine to hold more than 10 rounds. The Mayor is expected to sign it. It would be a misdemeanor to possess such magazines in the future. Those who legally possess magazines that hold more than 10 rounds under California law must remove them from the city within 90 days of the effective date of the bill. When the Mayor signs the bill I will add that information to the California Page Magazine Ban Section .

Handgunlaw.us has broken down the “Who Honors My Permit” document into two separate documents and has put a link to each page in the “Top Left Panel” at wwwhandgunlaw.us
The “Who Honors My Permit” link has been removed. What you will now see is “St Honoring My Lic.” and “Lic. My State Honors”. This change means you only see the page with the appropriate information. This also allows us to remove the Notice Page that required another mouse click to see the chart. Size constraints make it impossible for us to make the titles for the links longer without a major change in the layout of our Index Page. We believe this will be more convenient for our readers. You are welcome to print those documents but be aware that each requires legal size paper (8.5” X 14”) set to print in portrait mode for them to print correctly. This size had to be used to keep each listing on one page.

Handgunlaw.us will be updated early Friday with the WV/IA Change in who honors who.
