I currently have a supply of the following to choose from:

Remington 22 Win Mag 40 gr. PSP
CCI 22 WMR HP 40 gr. JHPs
SPEAR Gold-Dot 22 Mag 40 gr. GDHP-SB

Would you choose one of these over the others in this gun? Why?

Would you prefer something else in 22 MAG? Why?

Thanks.

I own a 22 Mini Mag and I carry it with the 22 LR Cylinder loaded with stingers because; ballistically, the 22 LR outperforms or is equivalent to the 22 WMR in a sub-two inch NAA.

Data from 22 LR Data and 22 Mag Data

22 mag CCI Maxi-Mag HP+V30 gr. JHP out of a 2" barrel: 884fps

22 LR CCI 27 gr. CPHP out of a 2" barrel: 861fps

22 LR CCI 32 gr. CPHP Stinger out of a 2" barrel: 974fps

Perhaps, the new Speer Gold Dot load being designed for a handgun might perform better but I'd want to see the data before making a purchase as 22 WMR is much more expensive than 22 LR.

Federal Classic has made a 22 Mag. especially for handguns I believe it is the "757" variety. I use it in 3 Derringers, and my brother uses it in a Ruger single six. It has a heavier bullet (50 grain JHP) which has more bearing surface for short barrels. Ivan

That would be a nice choice because of the increased bullet weight. I am going to look into it myself.

Thanks for the info.

On the NAA site, some have said they didn't get reliable ignition
with the Hornady Critical Defense. Maybe has a harder primer.

My 1 & 1/8" is loaded with CCI Gold Dot Short Barrel.

There are some youtubes comparing these bullets too.

The grips on mine were purchased from The NAA website.
They make the gun very east to manipulate
and don't add too much bulk.

I found another good article on the NAA.
I have shot the .22 LR some. The shorts were fun and accurate.
The .22 short shouts outstanding in the Astra Cub. Fun gun
not my choice for 1st line defense.
The cub makes a nice Bug.
