Does anyone know of any flap holsters that might fit a 4 inch Model 19? Not having a CCL I have to open carry when backpacking and like the idea of the flap holster for that use. I found plenty of them for 1911s or 92s as well as SAAs and Blackhawks but cannot seem to find any for a K-frame.

As a kid I had holsters for the double action colt 38's from the 1890's They would too valuable to let children play army with today, But they would be useful for woods walking or backpacking. When I've carried backpacking, I used cheap nylon "Uncle Mikes" type holsters for the last 30 years. You might look for Police surplus holsters. (You can find Leather duty belt holsters cheap) I also carry (on overnight or longer trips) a simple cleaning rod and a baggie with a silicon cloth patches and a small bottle of CLP. Ivan

Thanks. I just want something that is secure and holds up well on a belt with Wranglers. I bought one of those popular Fobus deals and would not trust it what so ever. If all else fails I will just go with a UM or my IWB but leave it exposed. I just really want to find flap holster though.

I believe Bianchi still makes a revolver version of the Universal Military holster for 4-inch barreled medium frames. El Paso Saddlery makes a handsome looking leather model. I don't know if there's still anyone making the repro Webley-style holsters that were around a few years ago (made popular by the first Indiana Jones movie). That would be my choice, because I like the flap style where the strap is taken off in the opposite direction to the flap movement. I feel it's more secure, and I have a WW2-syle for my Browning High Power that is very secure.

Contact Ed Rodek.
Rodek Leather Works, Inc. - Holsters
Ed does custom work. Tell him what you want and he will make suggestions, etc.
On the link you can see examples of some of Ed's work and his prices. You're going to pay 3 to 4 times more for any other custom leather. Ed's delivery time is usually about 1 week. He might have to take a few days longer for something he hasn't made before but you're sure not going to be waiting 6 to 8 weeks that other makers promise with a quick turn around.
You won't be disappointed by the quality and thickness of leather. On his link there's a picture of a Model 63 pancake. That's one Ed made for me that I wanted to ride a bit higher and exposed trigger. When Ed took that picture it had already been carried a lot when hunting. I carried it exposed to the weather and elements like brush and briars. It's been exposed to a lot and still retains its shape and stiffness just like new.
The one pictured below Ed made for me in 1999. I carried it everyday, all day when in plain clothes for several years. It is still like the day Ed made it. Note the evenness and tightness of the stitching. If it's not perfect it won't leave Ed's shop.

There have been some military style reproductions on ebay. Just type in flap holster. I don't know the quality of the leather as I've only seen them online. Hope this helps.

Yes sir they do -

"Model UM84R Universal Military Holster
The UM84 series represents the commercial offering of the M12 holster and fits a variety of 4" revolvers. Its unique, ambidextrous design, when worn with other Bianchi accessories, provides several different carry modes."

I have one and it works as advertised. It includes a "plastic" cleaning rod for field use and the Holster has a storage space for it. The flap is removable as well.

"Firearm Fits for this Holster Model - Most Medium & Large Frame 4" Revolvers S&W 15, 19, 586, 686 and similar"
