Default Is this true? M&P pistols to fall of CA DOJ Approved List?

Just came across this.
If this is correct, wow!!!

Hot on the heels of Ruger’s announcement that it will allow all of its pistols to fall off the California Department Of Justice approved list, ending Ruger’s pistol sales in the Golden State, Smith & Wesson’s taking their M&P pistols off the menu. Guns Direct Facebook page let slip news of [what is in effect] a manufacturer boycott: “Attention: California gun owners. Smith & Wesson Corp. just informed us that all the M&P pistols will be falling off the Ca DOJ list of approved handguns in the next 60 days. So if your [sic] thinking about one, now is the time.” Ruger stopped sales claiming they could not satisfy the CA DOJ’s microstamping requirement. As of yet there’s no official statement from Smith. Of course, if all firearms manufacturers and ammo makers refuse to do business with Cal and NY, the Cal and NY get what they want.

The manufacturers also need to stop dealing with California and New York law enforcement agencies like Barrett did a few years ago. That will get their attention.

No, they don't.

What they want is what they ALWAYS want, namely to keep the "little people" from having guns while reserving them to the nomenklatura.

If they get cut off by EVERYBODY the way Barrett cut them off, eventually they'll be carrying whifflebats instead of guns, or the prices will go through the roof.

NOBODY has a duty to ease their SELF-INFLICTED pain.

Nobody SHOULD.

Yes, unfortunately it's true.

The only way this will affect the population of CA positively is if the manufacturers stop selling to the police and government agencies as well. Then, maybe, just maybe, the law makers will realize how bad it is.

Me? I don't believe it. The anti gun people here in CA are winning. This is exactly what they want. What they don't realize, and VB alluded to, is the consequences of disarming the law abiding citizens.

Eventually the LEOs will be needing new guns. If the manufacturers could unite and deprive the government that imposes such unconstitutional laws upon its subjects of the weapons then the restrictions would be lifted. The government should be subject to the same regulations as the citizenry. Full autos should have to be justified to a man as to their necessity in an agency. No more everyone in the swat team gets a machine gun. They're expensive to feed anyway. Pistols should be of the same capacity as available to the citizens. Nothing special about being an agent of the government. It should be a calling to serve, not an escape to privileged status. In New York you need a permit just to legally touch a pistol. Okay all officers must apply for a pistol permit and obtain one PRIOR to being hired, this way there's no privileged status. All LEO equipment should not be capable of holding more than five rounds at a time in NYC. There should be no great separation of citizen from public servant. It's dead wrong and it's high time it stopped.

WhenCA first enacted their "approved" handgun program, products from the major manufacturers that were the preferred sidearms of LE did not meet the state requirements and were thus barred from sale. The state DOJ entertained a meeting with mfg reps, who explained that the requirements were so restrictive that they were no longer able to supply LE with handguns. The DOJ responded ny explaining that the rules did not apply to state/local LE. The mfgs, however, countered that they interpreted them to include LE guns, and because they did not wish to risk legal action, would no longer supply handguns to CA LE either. CA then ammended their rules to mirror the BATFE import guidelines. Barrett used the same tactic with CA, but Iapparently CA decided they could live without 50 cal. rifles in the hands of police.

Something like this will not have any teeth until all the companies get on board and the pols see the long term effects of not having armed authority/security standing in between them and the supporters who elected them.

I doubt threatening to cut off law enforcement will do anything. Sure, the LASD switched to the M&P but if Smith threatened to stop selling them because civilians can't get them, our dept. would just go somewhere else. We are already allowed to carry Berettas, SIGs and HKs so I'm sure one of those companies would fill the gap.

You're right. That's why the only way for this to help us would be for ALL the gun manufacturers to stop selling to the government and police.

According to reports from Washington Times, both Ruger and S&W will cease selling new handguns in CA due to the ridiculous "microstamping" law that is now in effect. Both mfgs will support the NSSF/NRA challenge to this CA law.

Let the LAPD, LASD, and CHP carry Hi Points, and pay Korth prices for them... if Hi Point will even waste the money to try to bid.

Then the Fed would investigate for conspiracy of some sort against those companies like "review" by feds under Clinton Administration. . .

Couple of thoughts

Microstamping is a gun registration. Someone has to have the database of all those millions of stamps.

DC has the same ban, it is just "suspended" until 2016.

Does the ban effect only new firearm sales, or does it cover all transfers?

Guns that are already on the list can continue on the list if the manufacturer just renews the certification. The problem is, if the make any changes, other than cosmetic, the gun has to be retested. Any gun that has to be retested must include the microstamping.

So, if a manufacturer changes a part, like a screw that holds the grips on, then the pistol must be re-certified and include microstamping.

A used pistol does not have to meet these requirements. But, if that used pistol is sold in a store, then it has to be on the list.

Confused? If you are, that is part of their goal.

No doubt. lol.

If one is bought on the net and transferred through the dealer does it have to meet the rules? I thought those still had to be on the list, if it is an out of state source.

This is correct. When you buy a gun from out of state, it has to be sent to an FFL. In essence it is as though you are buying it from the FFL and therefore it falls under all the rules.

Rifles, revolvers and the Shield (because it's new) are still okay for now.

Thanks. That's what I figured had to be the case, otherwise you have a gaping legal loophole.
