How do you carry loaded moon clips?

I just bought a LRC 9mm and expect to pocket carry it.

I keep reading they will bend if carried in a pocket.

Are they so fragile as to make pocket carry a bad idea?

While Moon Clips do make for a quick reload, they are a pain to carry and try to conceal. Speed strips and ammo pouches are no as fast, but if one practices on a regular basis you can get to the point where it's a very fluid series of motions and still pretty fast. The Speed Strips and pouches are so much easier to conceal.

I suppose if you are an exhibition or record shooter like Jerry Miculek, Moon Clips are essential, but it's not practical to walk around with his Competition Moon Clip carrier.

I'll give the OP the benefit of the doubt that he meant loose pocket carry for the moon clips specifically , and not the gun itself.

I have always heard of moon clips being carried in speadloader holdersm can't (yet) personally comment , but I will eventually work out such matters when I get around to carrying my M1937 .

While I have no experience with the 9mm moon clips, I do have a bit of experience with moonclips for the 45 ACP. I have tried a variety of methods and finally have settled on carrying the clips on my belt. Three cartridges inside and three cartridges OWB. I use a "keeper strip" to hold everything in place. The keeper is similar to what I used in LE to hold my duty belt to my pants belt but big enough to hold the moon clip(s). I had the fellow who built my holster make the strips.

This gets asked a lot; search will yield good reading.

The biggest threat to bending moon clips is trying to load and unload them by hand rather than getting a good tool to do so.

I read a lot of posts about how flimsy moon clips are and won't stand up to carry use. It seems to be an opinion held most often by people who haven't actually used them in a meaningful way.

Here's a single data point: been carrying loaded moon clips freely in my front pants pockets for years. I'm an active individual. Never had one bend or go wrong in any way. I check them regularly at the range. No problem cycling or igniting.

Your mileage may vary.

A speed loader pouch works fine for moon clips & you often fit two in the same space. A pouch will also be faster than most pocket carry. The clip comes out exactly the same evert time, no lint or threads to mess the reload up.

I use a cell phone case bought at a flea market for $3.00 works great for 5 shot J Frame 38's just add a piece of the styrofoam filler if I decide to carry 2 vs 3 clips. Sorry for the quality of the photos, but you get the idea.

I have a nylon soft side speedloader case from uncle mikes. Its sized for 629 speedloaders, but I plan on using it at the range for my 8 round 627 moonclips. I put a small piece of circular styrofoam in the bottom to hold the shape and to prop up the clip to make it easier to grab. I think it cost me about $4 in the bargin bin at cabelas a few years ago... I think a smaller one for a j frame size would be almost unseen on your belt.

I carry my moonclip capable S&W 442 often. I carry a couple of loaded moonclips in my jacket pocket when I have a jacket on, otherwise I carry a couple of speedstrips in my back pocket.

I have a Model 642 with a cylinder cut for moon clips. This gun used to be my EDC, and I carried the reload in an old (plastic) medicine bottle in a jacket, or cargo pocket of my shorts and jeans. I know there is a dedicated moon clip holder on the market, but it was pretty pricey, and I really couldn't afford it. I now see that TK Customs has a version available at a reasonable price:
