Default Texas A&M-Commerce & Campus Carry

While the national passion for "gun free zones" and other impotent showpiece measures captivate the hearts and minds of anti-gun zealots, Texas A&M University-Commerce has created a task force to make recommendations for implementing Senate Bill 11, a measure that would allow the carrying of concealed handguns on campus by CHL holders.

It's too early to celebrate, and the outcome is unknown at this time, but hurrah for the Texas legislature for passing the bill to allow the school to decide this issue for itself, and for the A&M-Commerce administration for not robotically drinking the gun free zone kool-aid without first exploring the options.

The Board of Regents will then have to submit their collective polices to the
Texas Legislator for final approval by a select legislative committee
before the institution can proceed with implementing said policies.

At least that's what I got out of the legislative debates at the time of passage of SB 11.

Let's hope sound judgment prevails and common ground will be found to
meet the needs for the safety and defense of all involved.

Best of luck to them. Ahhhh, Commerce. The last time I was there, the school was still East Texas State University. I wasn't there but one year. A few years later I went to see the movie Animal House, and I thought, "I know these people."
