Victory for Reciprocity in VA!
The Washington Post is reporting that governor McAuliffe is reversing his decision to revoke CC reciprocity and will make the announcement Friday (tomorrow).
Another blow to the Bloomberg billion$ that go toward trying to control every aspect of our lives that the elites don't like.

This is part of a compromise bill with republicans. The other side of the coin is that people with protective orders against them cannot have cc permits and state police will be available at gun shows for voluntary background checks.

I live in VA and my understanding was that people under a TRO (temp. restraining order) could not apply for a ccw, but could keep it if they had one unless they violated the TRO, in which case it would be revoked. As to VA gun shows every one I ever attended had troopers on site. If the news is selling this as new it's not.

That's good. I have kept up with the Tennessee legislature doings' closely each session for the last several years, especially on gun and self defense rights. They had already started a bill to not recognize Virginia permits, which would have been the first other state permit not recognized by Tennessee. It will go away now, I did not think that a few people in any state in Free America would be able to make something like that stand for very long. We even have a couple of bills on constitutional carry again this year that are going well, maybe this will be the year it will be passed.

I travel from Delaware to Virginia a few times a year for vacation. My next trip is in March so I was ticked knowing even if I mailed off my non resident permit I wouldn't have gotten it back to me by the time we leave.

Good news. It keeps my trip from PA to NC intact! I was irritated when we finally got Ohio, then they snaked VA from us.

CCW Reciprocity
Looks like McAuliffe is trying(and succeeding)as a deal-maker...I think a title he likes to bestow on himself. As far as the conditions I have no problem with any of those stated and the State Police will run NICS on private sales if desired. Read there was a 100K budget on this aspect. Might be the proverbial camels head under the tent on this but he(and Herring) have 2 years left...might be hard to expand on this for them...but who knows what comes next ?

The trouble with the condition that anyone with a lifetime protective order must immediately transfer or sell all their firearms is antis will point out that there's no way to know the individual in question has complied unless firearms are registered...so that gets pushed for next as a "necessary" adjunct to a law already on the books.

If what Old Cop said is right, that's not what will happen. IF the restraining order is violated, you'll lose your CCW permit.
I didn't hear anything about losing your guns.
Just about anybody can take out a restraining order on someone else.
If it worked that easily to get your guns, the antis would be taking out ROs on all gun owners.

According to the Post article, anyone who receives a "lifetime" or "permanent" protective order, which apparently has a two-year stay and I assume has a higher threshold for being administered than a standard protective order, must forgo their firearms:

That is correct, I was referring to the temporary RO that was mentioned and mistakenly tagged his post talking about the permanent ones.
Thanks for correcting that.
And I certainly would hope that a permanent order has a much higher threshold and proof requirement.
Don't think that by that statement that I condone a person with dangerous mental issues walking the streets armed....my concern is the consequences of that permanent order are quite serious and it must be a fair and correct decision.
I want to add a thanks to Fpuhan, the OP author. This made my day!

The Guv is supposed to announce it today, if he hasn't already.
That law wasn't due to go into effect until next month, so it will be like the commercial" like it never even happened".
Things should remain the same as they were.

I'm guessing immediately, since the decision was reversed and hadn't actually took affect yet(I think it was supposed to start in February). If your Ohio permit was recognized before this, then it should be after the reversal, but as always do your own research of the laws just to be sure.

Yea it was supposed to take effect Feb 1st. Now it's like the order was never written to begin with. The 25 states it was removing are still intact

I live in VA - but this is so far above my paygrade that I can't even see the top. That said, I bet there was a lot of to and fro on both sides part before this agreement was announced. Republican's in House of Delegates had threatened to defund McC's personal protection detail. My guess is that the Left wanted something to show for reversing their decision - and the two-year protective order 'thing' was the best they could get.

Not much new here, the protective order deal pretty much mirrors whats already on the books, and there have been Va. State Troopers at gun shows here forever. Most of the LEO's enjoy the duty, they get to look at all the displays all day for free, whats not to like for them? If it deters 1 bad guy from trying to obtain a fire arm it's worth it. Lets focus on dealing with criminals, not law abiding citizens.

It's not a done deal yet
The agreement, written as a bill, must be passed by the Virginia House and Senate, then signed by the governor. The end of the reciprocity has been extended to March 1st to give our legislators time to pass the bill. The danger is that some anti's will attempt to amend by inserting a "poison pill" to kill it. Since the governor has signed on to this, it should go through but we will be closely watching this.
Overall, it is a big win for us.

As a VA resident I was happy to hear this. Many citizens and multiple local governments expressed disapproval of the governor's action.
Maybe our voices aren't silenced after all. Speak your mind and keep pressure on those hired to lead us and the system can still work.
Still a skeptic though....keep your eyes open

Virginia depends heavily on the tourist dollar and many of the forums were encouraging people to write to the Virginia Tourism Corporation and the Virginia Chamber of Commerce. I know I am not the only one that wrote urging them to contact the Governor and inform him that it was going to hit the tourist industry
