Much as I dislike adding my 2 cents on this volatile subject, I have to agree with one part of the OP's treatise. Many, (not all), OC'ers I've encountered do have an attitude.

Many do but on the flip side many anti OC people do also. When I get negative comments it is almost always from a FUDD who thinks carrying a gun for SD in any manner is wrong and is gonna ruin their ability to duck hunt or self righteous horribly concealed CCers with the same old... shot first...gun stolen...or my favorite "concealed means concealed" to which I respond that would make sense if I was printing but sense I am obviously OCing that's nothing more than a idiotic catch phrase...that usually ends the conversation

i am trying to post a response to OP post, but all i can get out is 'wow'.
i know i am old, but we used to used the phrase 'dropping a dime on someone'. this was not a compliment. i carry concealed, thou we can open carry in CT. there is a new bill being proposed in CT (HB5408) to make it easier for a LEO to ask to see if a person has a permit - they want to remove the 'probable cause' wording. a lot of people see this as trying to harass folks into leaving their guns at home. i never thought it was my place in the world to tell others what to do.

How could you tell? When did Tn become so highbrow? Now if you need some slovenly lessons, come to a rural Walmart here in Fl and take notes. :

I’ve been OCing for over ten years now. While I lived in Tacoma (named the most dangerous city in the PNW) I carried openly in a Serpa holster every single day. I carried all over town, and even into the Tacoma Mall a few times. I carried in convenience stores, parks, coffee shops, fast food, slow food, really any place a guy would regularly go; and that includes a coffee shop on Pacific Ave at the University. Of the thousands of hours of actual experience carrying openly, here’s my take-away:

By a LARGE margin, all strangers who actually commented were completely supportive of OC. Seriously, total strangers expressing thanks or support.

I had TWO citizens who didn’t appreciate OC; one merely wanted to debate firearms ownership (she believed only police and mil should own guns) and one who was attempting to get the police to come, but the dispatcher was telling her that she was not going to dispatch because no laws were being broken.

Almost ALL the people who post in forums that they prefer ‘tactical surprise’ or say you’ll be shot first, are actually hiding the real reason they don’t like OC that they’re afraid or ashamed to admit. We’ve been around and around on those two issues and those arguments are easily refuted. They will not discuss it; they will post and run, or make some irrelevant distractor like popcorn or some such. They cannot support their position yet they’ll foolishly keep making it.

I don’t care one iota how someone chooses to carry, I’m as happy for the CCers as I am for the OCers. I find the discussion enlightening because of the above; people fabricating reasons why OC is bad but will not or cannot support it with any real argument.

I'm always polite to citizens and police officers. However, if you were hassling me 'under color of law' while I was behaving in a completely lawful manner, you'd get a world of attitude from me as well.

Reminds me of what I heard a good ol' boy say at a Sattidy night dance once when another good ol' boy threatened to whup him: "Boy, my *** is just like a turnip patch. You can have a mess of it whenever you feel up to gathering it."
