I had to pick my son up a couple weeks ago and since I didn’t have to get out of the car, I stuffed my 3” M-64 in my waistband about 2:00 or so and pulled my T-shirt down over it with the barrel canted about 45-degrees from my leg toward my groom.

This was, physically, extremely comfortable. Not so much mentally when I thought about where it was pointed. It put the cylinder right in the hollow between my belly and

So is there a holster that could hold a k-frame that way?

I researched appendix carry, and it seemed most of the examples had the gun straight up & down and closer to the center of the body. That didn’t look too comfy to me.

I bought a kydex holster from JM custom kydex in the normal configuration. It's very well made.

My thoughts:

He makes them for revolvers, unlike most manufacturers.
He makes them to order, so if you discuss it with him I'm sure he'll mount the clip/straps at an angle.

Note:
He's not fast, I think it took about a month to get mine.
He's not real cheap; the holsters start at ~$80.

I also have a JM Custom Kydex AIWB holster for my 3" 686+ (L frame)...
Tony does great work.

If you want something quicker and in leather, you might consider the Triple-K 314. I have one for the same revolver and it works quite well.

The single most versatile holster that I own is the Bianchi 3S Pistol Pocket.
It has two snaps on the thumb break so I can carry everything from a J frame snubby to a 4" barrel 686 comfortably in my waist band.
Note the second picture you will see what goes on under the belt strap. It has a screw adjustment so you can tailor the cant on your revolver.
You can comfortably carry anywhere from 2 o'clock to 5 o'clock just by adjusting the cant of the holster.

Note that this holster also has an open toe so barrel length is not an issue.
Like most guys I have 6 washtubs full of holsters that were just "not quite right"....this one is a winner.

It's been observed that I can be expected to react to a post about appendix carry. Might be true :-).

Yeah, don't carry that way. True 'appendix' carry is over at 2:00 with the muzzle to the rear "Nelson style". What you're suggesting is belly carry. The Bianchi 3S that's been suggested is a good holster (I designed it and patented it at Bianchi) but please don't wear it along the belly line, it was not designed for that. Bloody (literally) dangerous. Stick with the Nelson method.

My hat is off to you Mr. Red.
It is one of the finest pieces of gun leather that I own.
I wouldn't trade anything for it.
Thanks for your contribution!

Everybody knows that Mexican carry is for single action revolvers....not double action. My grab and go is a 3¾" Old Model Vaquero in .45 LC. Six rounds of very good medicine.

What is the “Nelson style”? I can find any pictures of it.

Man, I really like the looks of that holster. I'm going to have to make up my own version of one of those.

Red, why would you consider carrying that holster along the belly line dangerous?

It is called "closing time" by Adams Holsters. A "unique and comfortable" appendix. Closing Time Appendix IWB(inside the waistband) Holster Be Safe,

Thank you.

I watched the video and don’t see how that is significantly safer than the belly carry I described, especially when seated. Unless the barrel is long enough to clear the groin.

Perhaps someone who uses this holster can splain it to Lucy.

I carry everything the same way - in the waistband between my belt buckle and right front pocket. I suppose my appendix is around there somewhere.

To the OP - I carry a K frame 2 1/2" in this low-buck Bianchi holster. Though this gun is new to me, this is the same spot I carry any of my other guns.

Luckily, I only buy guns that don't go off all by themselves.

YES!!! Well put. Revolvers in holsters. Safe as can be.

I have two of the Bianchi 36S holsters. I only use one - I need to take a picture of it. Why? Because I had the end cut off by my cobbler so it carries a 2" K frame well but a longer barrel will peek through. He did a gorgeous job! The other one that I have is new and is awaiting the day when I decide to carry my 2.5" Model 19.

I carry my EDCs back over my hip. I conceal them with vests. If I carried them in the appendix position I would have to change my entire mode of dress.

Could you please post some pictures of the Nelson method in use?

Every example I’ve seen of appendix carry looks like the muzzle is going to be pointed at some part of the users anatomy at least some of the time. And none with muzzle to the rear. Frankly, I can’t even visualize how that’s possible.

I assume you’re referring the late Bruce Nelson. Even the Nelson AIWB holster looks like it would cant the muzzle slightly inward.

Perhaps the real difficulty, is in the nomenclature. It was Jeff Cooper who labelled Bruce's carry as 'appendix'; Bruce himself called it 'forward of hip carry'. Jeff's terminology was an early attempt to do 'clocking' around the belt and he used the terms 'appendix', 'spleen', and 'kidney' for the various positions. None were a suggestion that the pistol be carried directly over the various organs (check out where you spleen is).

Here is Bruce's most famous pic; the article is from 1980. Unseeing eyes miss exactly how it is clocked, which is just ahead of the trousers seam (which is ALWAYS at 3:00). Notice his trousers loop. These same unseeing eyes miss that the muzzle of his holster is pointed to the rear (designed to carry the pistol grip-forward) and that, in that position, he was not ever muzzling himself.

If THIS is what someone wants to call 'appendix' and then carry there, and in that way, then as a holster designer/builder I have no problem with it. We knew each other, Bruce and I; why would he ever want to carry in a manner to muzzle himself -- we knew better in those days.

With the great help of Red Nichols, I now know what I want and it’s not appendix carry, but 2:00 or what I’ll call “forward hip” carry. Both more comfortable sitting and safer.
