Texas mom shoots man trying to take car with her kids inside at gas station
She had to retrieve her firearm from the glovebox to engage the would-be carjacker.
"A Texas mother said she didn't think twice about shooting a would-be carjacker when the man jumped into her vehicle at a Dallas gas station while her two sons were in the backseat."
"...Booker-Hicks shot Wright in the face while he was allegedly trying to drive away. He crashed the vehicle into the fence.
I'm not a killer but I do believe in defending what's mine," the mother of two said. "I hope that woke him up."
Wright was arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment."

Do NOT get between a momma bear and her cubs, especially if she has a lethal force option and is willing to use it. Well done mom.

This TEXAS woman said on tv she kept her Taurus in the glove box for protection while driving.
She was filling up her car with gas, when a man jumped into her car's driver seat. this woman then opened up the passenger door, got her pistol out and shot this man multiple times.
He drove out and crashed across the street.
Dallas TV news interviewed her and local TV reported it.

Momma Bear needs to shut up. Some of her quotes are things that shouldn't be said after involvement in a SD shooting. Ever.

Glad she and kids are safe. Let's use this story as a teaching tool. Lessons to be learned here.
If you leave the car, take your firearm with you. Or better yet, have it on your person to begin with
If you leave the car, take the kids with you, lock them in the car, leave them at home, come back another time.

Pretty lucky; jumps in the back seat, reaches over or around the front seat to open the glove box..........
Hope it works out for her.

I'm glad mom and the kids are ok. If it had to happen I'm glad for her it happened in TEXAS.
I prefer to keep my primary attached to me, even on lengthy road-trips.

I'm glad she was okay, and I'm sure she won't be charged. This is Texas, after all.
However . . . never leave your keys in the vehicle or leave it running while you pump gas. That's just asking for trouble. I don't know if she erred by not keeping the gun on her person. She may not have a license to carry. It's perfectly fine in Texas to keep a loaded gun in the car out of sight without a carry permit, but not so outside the vehicle unless you are walking between the vehicle and your residence or place of business.

Wonder if she will now carry on her person
from now forward ??
She was lucky the gun wasn't taken from her
and extraordinary to be able to retrieve her pistol
from glove box and shoot him ..
Very lucky others weren't harmed ..

If she didn't have a license to carry she cannot take the gun out of the car while she pumps gas. She can only take it from the car to her home or workplace or other destination.
I understand the story to be that this all happened very quickly and the perpetrator apparently didn't have any time to take the lady's gun. That's the way it is supposed to be. Remember what Tuco said in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly:
If you're going to shoot, shoot. Don't talk.
This is true, too:

That's always good advice. I admit to often leaving my keys in my car when I pump gas but I do shut it off and I do keep my eyes open. But I think I'll revert back to always taking the keys with me.....

I pretty much agree. A lot of what is said following these incidents may seem somewhat of a harmless adrenaline driven explanation, but sometimes law enforcement and attorneys representing the 'other side' find these statements quite helpful in ruining your future.
Some of the best advice IMHO is "lawyer up and shut up".
