Handgun Permits are supposed to be approved or denied in NC in 14 days if possible. I’m on day 50 and am still in the “assigned to processor shortly” stage. The next stage is “pending “.
I know these are crazy times, but this is a bit much.
I’m only in this position because I’m giving both of my sons a Sig P226. We had a great sheriff for many years but he lost the election to an opponent promising to not work with ICE.
Anyway, what are your wait times for handgun permits in other cities?

Mine took 10 weeks, but I live in a gun friendly county, well for NY anyway.

NY has 6 months,by law, to give a decision.

My wife’s renewal, here in the “Gunshine” state of Florida, took almost 4 months. Lots of services are slowing down for a number of reasonable causes. And then again, some are slowing down for no reasonable cause at all......

Next time go to one of the Dept of A&CS office and get it done in about 15 minutes.

Initial issues can take up to 90 days. Military and Vets can get the express lane. Again, in person at an A&CS office is much quicker.

NY's 6 months (by "law), is a joke. Nearly 40 years ago, it took almost a year. Amendments in my county are between 4 and 6 weeks

In Nevada the sheriff has 90 days; however, during Covid, it’s my understanding they extended permits until things ease up.

My wife got her Texas LTC last September. Lesscthan 2 weeks from time we uploaded paperwork until she had it in hand.

In IL it may take up to 6 months and still waiting (The State is being sued for failure to follow the rules they made). This is since Covid, previously it normally was 60-90 days once training had been completed and all paperwork downloaded.

We have a real decent Sherriff in Hanover County, Virginia. My renewal (every 5 years) took a total including US Mail both ways of 3 weeks. I'm pretty sure the actual form checking, etc, didn't take more than a couple days, then over to the Circuit Court for approval and signature, so about a week....the rest was US Mail.

I'm not at all sure about NEW permits though because I have been renewing for many years.

Kansas does not require one to have a "Handgun Permit" I do have a CCW and with that the last 10 or so I purchased of GB or from LGS took about as long as it takes to complete the ATF 4473.

P2P there is no requirement but, I have a feeling that will change in the next few years.

I'm curious as are you wanting permits to purchase or are your sons waiting on permits so you can give them the pistols? Larry

I will bet that you mailed it off

Florida is a SHALLL ISSUE State.

If they can not find anything wrong in your background in 90 days they "SHALL ISSUE" the Concealed Weapons Permit

As SMSgt mentions above, renewals are under 30 minutes at one of the Department of Agriculture's regional offices. Unfortunately there are only seven of those regional offices across our rather large State

Now many of the Tax Collector's Offices in our 67 Counties will also process new permits and renewals.

In my last renewal, the longest wait I had was the printer printing my renewed permit with my new picture on it.

50 years ago it took me 1.5 years.

10 years ago it took my wife 4 weeks (different county and friendly judge, plus she had a business and wanted a full carry)

5 years ago it took my son 2 days (he was taking a criminal justice university course and was riding a day a week with the police officer that just happened to be the county pistol permit inspector)

Amendments in my county take 5 minutes. The clerk knows me by name. I live 30 minutes from the LGS and 40 minutes from County Hall. I can literally leave my house, buy a handgun, get it registered, go pick it up and be back home with it in an hour and a half.

About 15 minutes here in flyover country. Renewals take 10 minutes. I hear tales of a couple weeks in St. Louis and the surrounding metroplex, but not my concern. Worst part about Missouri's system is you get no advance reminder, so you have to track the date yourself . . .

(Edit: This timeline is for concealed carry permits. Missouri no longer has the draconian permit to purchase system . . . )

Moving upstate has been great...takes about a day to get a pistol added!

Agreed, although differences exist county by county. Population here is increasing exponentially, tons of refugees from NYC coming up. Building & home sales are booming.

My county has a huge backlog for new licenses, but they do process quickly.
Amendments take about a week. The biggest delay here is the paperwork going from the sheriff to the judge (who is a full time trial judge) and then back to the sheriff whose staff actually does the processing.

Although Maine is a Constitutional Carry state, we still have permits for those that want the freedom of reciprocity with other states.
My initial took 2 weeks, renewal 9 days.
Don’t ya just love not living under Communism?
