Happy to see a Dr. open carrying at his practice this morning!
I won't mention the Dr. and it was even another state. My wife had an appt with a very narrow specialist this morning out of town. He walked into the exam room with scrubs, but his Glock 17 was outside his scrub top on purpose. He treats patients with severe pain issues, but keeps zero drugs in the building. Unfortunately bad guys aren't smart enough to know that.
His younger female Nurse Practitioner mentioned that she carries at work too, but concealed. We all connected right away. :-)
Additionally, the desk ladies at my dentist know me well enough to mention their Dr asked them to train, get permits and carry at work (I'm NRA Pistol Instructor cert so we talk guns when the other patients aren't around).

I think that's great.
Havent heard anything in a while but I think that used to would have been frowned upon by the AMA??? With some opioid users being in the condition they are, things may be different now???

I have sold/traded guns & ammo with my doc and the dentist for a number of years now. I carry, they carry.....the nurse is scary enough without a gun

Does anyone really care what the AMA thinks?
I have a now deceased friend whom I introduced to my chiropractor and on his first visit he went into the doctor's office to leave his openly carried pistol and, I think, a large knife. Doc is a gun guy so they hit it off instantly.

After retiring from full time medicine, I worked at a pediatric urgent care several times a month, this located in a troubled area of Charlotte. When I and the nurses and other staff gathered at the side door late in the eve, fall of the ladies checked their firearms for readiness, then we walked out together. Heaven forbid some miscreant accost them, because they would have blown him or her away in a heart beat. Actually I know lots of doctors who relied and shoot and have CC permits. SF VET

My late brother was a GP MD, and he carried 24/7. And this was back in the 1990's/early 2000's.
His last carry piece was a 640-1. And he knew how to shoot it and shoot it well.
It never came down to brass tacks, but if a punk thought he could take out the middle aged guy in the suit and with a limp, the punk would have met St. Peter minus what brains he had before making his last bad life choice.

I could tell the woman at the Dollar General I went into last night was carrying. She used to live with a friend of mine. I hadn't seen her in about ten years. We had a nice talk.

The last medical office I worked in was a pain management clinic which meant that the majority of our patients were on opioids of some kind.
The Physician was obsessed with guns and knew that I was working part time as a security guard. He came into the front office on morning and told me he was perfectly OK with me carrying a gun at work because we had drugs in the office. As soon as he walked out of the office the office manager turned and told me in no uncertain terms that if I ever brought a gun to work I'd be fired immediately regardless of what the doctor said.

I knew a dentist who kept a Python in his desk after after some guy came in after hours trying to intimidate him into handing over narcotics. Dave was a big guy anyway (may he rip) and the guy got nothing.

I hope the doc has somebody to watch his six.
Too easy for somebody to break a chair over his head from behind in order to get the gun.
I can understand open carry in a local gun store. In mine they all open carry and they're all watching each other's backs.
Not so much in a hospital.

I was in the first wave to get a concealed permit when Illinois finally was forced to allow it. Signed up for a weekend class at the last minute, and was pleasantly surprised to get in. Even more surprised to see my dentist and his wife were in the class with me. I never would have figured him to carry. I have never asked him if he carries at work, and he has never asked me if I'm carrying in his office. (I am.)
Virtually every medical office around here is posted no guns. My dentist, podiatrist, and one eye doctor I see are exceptions.

I’m all in favor of CCW. I’m not crazy about open carry. If perps are doing any casing at all they ID the open carry people. Especially in urban settings
not the same as rural settings. I see no reason to celebrate open carry by anyone not engaged in law enforcement.
Perfectly legal open carry can cause a lot of problems for the Law. There are several blogs on You Tube were “hero” goes into public settings with open carry. Cause hysteria among crowds. Cops are called and hero gets to school cops on his rights to open carry. Armed to teeth walking through residential areas, of strangers. These are not gun people, they are people with guns & IPhones or Go-pro.
Don’t people watch the news? Everyday some scum is murdering random people. Why wouldn’t public worry?

Well, let’s just hope that if he determines that he can’t do anything for you medically, the Glock remains holstered!!!

About 10 years ago at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital just outside of Philly a patient turned up at his psychiatrists office with a .32 revolver and started shooting. He killed one person before the shrink pulled out his own concealed .32 pistol (either a Seecamp or KelTec, I forget which) and shot the psycho. The DA ruled it a good shoot, the hospital expressed annoyance at the shrink carrying a gun in violation of their rules, and it seemed like everyone involved filed a lawsuit against someone.
The shrink was asked why he carried a gun in his office, his answer boiled down to “because my patients are crazy”. Hard to argue with that logic.

I think that's great! Responsible people with common sense, that's what we need.
A few years back in Oklahoma, when I was off-duty, I went to the ER for severe back pain and the nurse had nothing better to do than complaining about my gun and badge, wanting to send me back outside so I could put it in the car. I said no and luckily the Dr. walked in at that time. That Dr. has seen me before, knows what I did for a living, and he didn't mind at all. The nurse was upset but I really didn't care. This is what people get upset about? But when a highly combative crazy person, perhaps high on whatever and/or even armed, comes in then you sure wish someone was there to help you...

A Doctor that I have gone to for years is very much into guns and ammo. We have spent hours discussing same. I have never seen him carrying but it is pretty certain that each desk in his three patient rooms holds a firearm. I have not seen them but I know him.

Years ago had a pain management Md that carried. Was waiting in his waiting room when heard “ a woman using “ sailor language”, screaming and kicking things. She burst through the exam room area door still cussing and yelling, out office door into elevator still cussing. I asked the nurse what was that about? She and the Md. said just a doper that used her script in a few weeks rather than a month. Md and I had a nice gun talk after the exam.
My current Uro. is a target shooter, will get him to go to local indoor range soon.
