Default BARAMI HIP GRIP IN ACTION

Here is an action shot or two of the infamous Barami Hip Grip used to perfect Mexican Carry of S&W revolvers.

I also use a M442 with a Desantis Clip Grip.

For quite awhile I pocket carry a KelTec P380 or belt carry either a SCCY 9mm, M&P 40c or 642.

My first choice has always been to carry a pistol that I'm proficient with. That usually means a BIG one.

My Beretta is a full size pistol that was built to carry. If you know anything about the 92 FS you should see a few changes that makes carry a bit more comfortable.

This is another one that's Mexican Carry.

Default Rules:

1) have a gun. Always have, always do.
2) have enough gun. Debatable what is enough. I carry either a Smith 457 or an FN Five SeveN, depending on situation. Superb Ken Null IWB makes either light and easy.

While I carry a custom 1911 a lot, as I get older it gets heavier. I have a CSX that carries very nice. The gun that never leaves My pocket except for washing My pants is My North American Arms mini revolver in 22 mag. It is with Me as long as My pants are on, even when I have one of the others in a holster on My belt.

What has been your experience? As to both the real daily carry type person, and also the real life daily carry pistols?
Decades ago, when I lived in NYC and was practicing pharmacy I sometimes carried a starter pistol when I was assigned to work in "Fort Apache", the Bronx. I had two .25 caliber pocket pistols but the City of New York frowned upon gun carrying so severely I just never carried them (ownership was a felony, besides - I had no permit) but I often carried a stilleto/switchblade in other venues.

After happily leaving NYC I arrived in Texas and carried a Beretta 950 BS .25 caliber pistol daily. One of my earlier ones went to Florida so I could carry it when I visited family there. Subsequently, it came back to Texas.

The Beretta went everywhere with me and that included working at a Federal agency or two - no metal detectors - no problem. Felony? Catch me first. Never happened. That little pistol did a lot of traveling, too. On airplanes, before FOPA, I had my ways.

Sometimes I carried a Model 36 S&W in my briefcase, which I had modified to conceal a J frame.

Subsequently, Texas passed concealed carry and I upped the methodology to pocket carrying a J frame, belt carrying compact pistols, etc. Sometimes pocket carrying smaller pistols in .380 and 9mm. DAILY. NIGHTLY. ALWAYS.

It's second nature to me. I don't think about it, I just do it as part of my getting dressed routine.

I have never had a problem, even during traffic stops.

Carry guns include the pictures below - as noted, always......but, note well, while I have carried all of these at one time or another the general rotation today is the M649, the Walter CCP, and the CZ 75 Compact.

EVERYONE likes pictures!!!

I forgot something. Someone said he only carries a gun when he has his pants on - I can add to that, because this is my bathrobe gun - I only carry a gun when I'm awake!

Hey! I've had one of the IWB holsters, like, forever. Bought it when CC in Illinois was a pipe dream. (Those holsters were made in St. Louis). After seeing your post I might have to take my Model 15 for a pocket ride.

Putting the OP's lengthy opening statements aside, I thought he asked a good question. I'm one of those people who don't flaunt my gun ownership. As a generic old man, no one pays attention to me or my M&P 40c .357 SIG conversion I pocket carry every day in a DeSantis Nemesis holster. I revel in my obscurity. And that's just the way I like it.

I pocket carry everyday, all day, except when inside my place of employment, because it it prohibited.
It is a secure location with gate guards . My coworkers, and management are pretty conservative, and gun owners. If someone forgets and comes in with their CCW in pocket or shoulder bag, they either go back out and put it in their vehicle, or just keep it out of sight until quitting time.
I carry either a Taurus PT-22, S & W .22 UltraLite revolver, or a .380 S & W Bodyguard.
If it won’t fit in my right front pocket, I ‘ain’t carryin’ it.

I worked at a large company with a similar setup for 26 years of my working career. I always kept a lock-box in my car and that is where the gun went before I went through the guard shack.

Twice I forgot and carried it into the plant. Even though we went through a metal detector, I still managed to slip by.

Fortunately I also managed to sneak it back out without getting caught.

I was REALLY nervous all day both times. Especially when I had to go through the metal detectors on the way out.

If it had been detected on the way in, taking it back to the car wouldn't have been an option, because just bringing it on property (even in a lock box in your car in the employee parking lot) was a termination offense.

In 2004 I got my permit. I carried at least One usually Two Revolvers at all times. Fast forward to today 99% of the time it has been Two guns every day. The past couple years I’ve started carrying semi auto 9’s on or in the waist and a J-Frame in a pants pocket. This is all day every day. Sometimes in the house I will just carry the pocket J-Frame or doing yard work.

I don’t think the OP had any nefarious intentions. You have to admit there are a lot of blow hards in the gun hobby. Lots of Johnny come lately types who know it all, seen it all, and have to one up everyone. I’ve seen people who get their permit and go crazy buying guns ammo and gear. They walk around like a John Wick villain. A yr later that don’t even carry a pocket knife. Because they either lost interest or realized it’s a burden sometimes. Most ( at least the smart ones) carry and you don’t know it. They don’t talk about it. And I’d venture to say they carry what’s easy to carry.

Started carrying a Colt Cobra off-duty in 1968 and over time the weapon of choice has gotten smaller & lighter. In retirement it’s either a light J Frame or LCP depending on how I’m dressed & where I’m going. Most of the retired cops I know carry a small semi auto, usually a .25 or .380 when it’s too difficult to adequately conceal a J Frame.

I'm a sometime carrier. I have a Diamondback DB9 (4th generation) that is the smallest, thinnest 9mm auto that I'm aware of. It lives in a Sneaky Pete holster, which is essentially a rectangular flap holster that looks like a cell phone case. It clips on the outside of my belt and isn't really noticeable, even if it's fully exposed.

I keep this, and an extra magazine, in the storage bin in the door of my car. (My car is always garaged.) When I go out I might put the gun on, I might not. Mostly I do, just because I'd feel pretty stupid if I needed it and didn't have it.

We are retired and live in what I consider a "safe", relatively upscale suburban neighborhood. There aren't many places I have to go. If I needed to go someplace that I felt I needed to be armed, I probably wouldn't go. But, random violence can strike anyplace - that's why it's called random. So I carry.

Glock 43 if I pocket carry. Shield Plus with a Holosun red dot if I belt carry. Depends upon the clothes.

I started carrying in 1976 when I became a reserve deputy. I carried every day- either a steel frame 1911 or a 4 5/8" Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt. My only handguns back then were these two, a 5" .32-20 S&W and a .22 LR/.22 Magnum Colt New Frontier.

I went full-time LEO in October of that year and carried a full-size handgun every day, on duty and off, until I retired in 2001. I continued to carry a big gun until I went overseas in 2002. Then I carried the issue handgun, a Beretta 92 9mm, for two years. Went from Kosovo directly to Afghanistan in 2004 and continued to carry a Beretta 92 until 2007.

Once I got home in 2007, I went to a Colt Agent .38 special for EDC. If I walked outside, the Agent was in my pocket. About 5 years ago, I changed to a Ruger EC9s 9mm. It too goes everywhere I do. There are coyote, bears and poisonous snakes in the area, so if I'm outside, my Ruger tags along.

I carry every day if I can. I'm not comfortable if I'm not armed. My wife and I travel the country in our motorhome so it can be a challenge. I try my best to learn the laws in each state we visit.

Home is Texas and unless it's a felony I'm armed. I like pocket carry so my choices are usually a 640 or 642. I've recently added my old 1st generation Shield in .40 caliber to the mix wit an additional mag in my pocket.

Hiking guns are either a 60-15 Pro Series or a 65-5.

Sorry friends. I’m not sure why some folks took my post the wrong way—especially on Christmas for crying out loud!

I wasn’t intended to criticize anyone here or cast aspersions. I was just sharing what I thought was an interesting conclusion I’ve come to watching people over the decades. Was wondering if others had seen the same thing.

If you carry a 6” N-frame on a daily basis, I respect your dedication. All I’m saying is you would appear to be an outlier from what I’ve seen.

I've carried almost daily since our state legalized concealed carry back in 1995. I've followed the law and don't carry where prohibited (I worked in IT for a bank so couldn't carry there), and don't walk out of the house without one now. I retired last year and now mainly carry a Taurus TCP 738 or Kel-Tec .380 or .32 on my person, mainly in my front trouser/jeans pocket or clipped inside the waist of my activewear clothing, and something larger in the truck or car (A .45 of some description mainly, and sometimes a 9mm or .357 Sig). I don't purposely put myself in situations where I think I'll need a larger caliber with lots of ammo so I feel fairly well protected with the Taurus or one of the Kel-Tecs.

I got a .gov "license" in 1988 so I'll only talk about that timeframe. Carried a Model 60 from my early days in Florida, a 3" model 65 until 1994. The 6906 was with me from 1994 until Summer of 2021. 100% the whole way. It's still in the safe, 2 1/2 years later loaded with 12 124gr HST's. I'd bet big money I could unholster it and empty the mag, today. The CZ P 07 is a "full sized gun" eevn though it's billed as compact. It's been 100% in maybe 1500 rds but it'll be replaced with something better, when I find it. The warm climate makes concealment a challenge at times but honestly I've only been "made" once, assisting a young lass in a computer class in "adult night school" back in 1996. Joe

Retired Policeman so I carry everyday. I have numerous death threats made against me and I was ambushed in my driveway at home. Two additional ambushes were when I was on duty.

I prefer to carry full size handguns like Colt 1911s in .45 ACP.

I see that too. Of course on LEOSA Qualification Day they bring a 4 inch .38 (the younger retirees a Beretta 92FS)

Hear hear! We were at my niece's for Christmas. At one point her husband paraded out his AR collection, one-by-one, for my pleasure while the wimmenz sat around the table at the other end of the room and yakked.

I figured there was no reason to mention the Glock 42 in my pocket. We drove an hour+ around the city of St. Louis to get there. No way I was going near that hell-hole unarmed. Then I figured it best to not leave the gun in the car. Even my wife didn't know I had it. But then again, I always have it.

Always carry, never tell. That's my motto.

I forget that cops get personal death threats. Thanks for the reminder. It will help me understand my neighbor. We live in a very nice subdivision but his house is like a fortress. Cameras everywhere and mean dogs. He is a very suspicious person and he cusses and grumbles a lot. And he is not very old. Poor guy.

Went OTJ in '73 and was issued a heavy barrel #10 for on duty. Required then to carry 24/7 but could go to smaller. 38's off duty. I had a D/S at the time and moved to a J frame soon after.

Promoted and assigned planning and training and never carried a big gun again. J frame Air Weights and Air Lite. Retired a bit over 20 years ago and now carry a 442. Started to also carry a G42 when deeper concealment was needed.

Now living an hour west of DC in a retirement community filled with government retirees with lots of FBI, CIA, cops, deputies and other gun assigned agencies. We all belong to the same range. We all carry to one extent or another. Not one Derringer, .25
or .32 among us.

Three of us carry the Glock 42 as our smallest gun. A couple of other .380's and the Sig 365 is another popular choice. A lot of J frames and not many larger Glocks. Once a month we go as a group to the range, then lunch as a social outing. Never has anyone noticed any printing of our carry weapons. The bigger range toys are all locked in the cars and trucks.

As geezers we all feel that the surprise of a well concealed handgun is our best defense. Small, light and hidden.

S&W BG380, pocket carry, every day, every time I leave the house. I live on five acres, and it's in my pocket whenever I'm working outside.

For a couple years, I belt carried a J frame. AIWB in warm weather, OWB when it was covered by a sweatshirt. I had to give it up. The heavy leather gun belt compressed nerves on my left hip, leading to significant numbness and pain in my left leg. i can do it occasionally, if I want to "up gun", but that's rare.

I am still hoping /waiting for S&W to come out with a Bodyguard Plus but until then I'm comfortable with 6+1, and I almost always carry a spare mag when I'm off my property.

Once concealed carry became legal here it was a 1911 in an older Bianchi Shadow. Normal work attire kept it hidden to all but the most diligent observers. That pistol was retired and replaced by a Combat Commander for routine carry. A Kel-Tec P3-AT with a pocket clip gets pressed in to service when that's as big as I can hide.

BTW Yoda, I know of a gas station hold up in Larimer county, Colorado that was effectively ended by the attendant who had a "wallet" like yours.

I carried a concealed handgun off duty religiously during my 25 year law enforcement career. Over the years in chronological order, my concealed carry guns where a Colt Delta Elite 10mm, H&K P7M13 9mm, Sig P228 9mm,Sig P230 380, Sig P229 40, Glock 27 40, and Glock 19 9mm, all carried in a strong side high ride belt holster except the Glock 27 was carried in a Kramer horsehide pocket holster in my right rear pocket. I retired over 6 years ago, and spent 4 years in remote western Montana where I carried a Glock 29 10mm primarily since I hiked and hunted a lot in grizzly country.

Since we relocated to Oklahoma on a rural 20 acre property, I don’t carry immediately outside our home, but I’ll throw a S&W 642 in a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster in my rear pocket if I walk or drive down to the mailbox about 350 yards away. I do keep several loaded Glock 19’s, a Glock 17, a couple AR15’s and 870 loaded with slugs & buckshot readily available in the house. Perhaps an idea for another thread for those who live on property out in the country? Anyhow, I don’t carry inside the house or inside our fenced in acre around the house, plenty of guns available if needed and our early warning system is our 105 lb blue Doberman, Max!

A few months back, I was alerted to an intruder on our property, and I armed myself with my Glock 19 and intercepted him. A tweaker in a stolen pickup truck. Let us say he had a near death experience and rapidly evacuated the area. The local sheriff’s department subsequently apprehended him after he rammed a deputies patrol vehicle and it turned into an officer involved shooting! Lots of excitement for our quite remote area. I’ll share this story for a later time. Just a good reminder that a lethal force situation can happen anyplace and anytime!

Anyhow, when in town, it’s really weather dependent. If I’m wearing a photographers type vest or a jacket, I carry a Glock 19 in a strong side high ride belt holster (I have a variety of kydex, leather Desantis, Galco, etc.). During the summer, I either carry a S&W 642 or Ruger LCP 380 both in Desantis Nemesis holster in my rear pocket when in town. If I were frequenting a high crime area, I would upgrade to a Glock 26/27 (carried in a Kramer pocket holster) in warmer weather wearing either jeans or canvas type cargo shorts. I’m 6-3, 230 so have found it easy enough to carry concealed but no on lightweight jogging type shorts, the Glock 26/27 is too heavy and I’ve found only the Ruger LCP and S&W 642 work with lightweight shorts.

It would be pretty unusual for me to leave the house without one of these 3. The RM380 gets most of the carry work. I've been thinking about picking up a similar IWB kydex holster for the Seecamp as well. I have a triggerguard holster (like what the Mod 38 is wearing) for it, but find that it is just too small to slip into the waistband, but good for a jacket pocket.

During my last years before retirement I worked for a large trucking company on the southern edge of San Antonio. We also had a facility for border crossings in Laredo. This employment put me in Laredo many nights.

A few months in our Regional VP called me into his office for what he termed a "frank and off the record conversation". He laid out what I would call a "don't ask, don't tell" arrangement for me....and me alone.

He was NOT going to authorize me to carry a firearm because that was against company policy but he was going to guarantee me that no one would ever ask me.

Crazy? yeah, bat spit crazy.
Only because I had been carrying it since the day I walked in to fill out the employment application. See, this was not a Texas company and they were obviously not "gun people" who took the time to research Texas signage that would support their "No Firearm Policy". No 30.06 or 30.07 signs anywhere, much less at the entrance of the facility.

My "business casual" attire consisted of Duluth Trading cargo pants. I carried my Beretta 92FS in my front pocket most days. If I could carry that pistol in my pocket then it would be no surprise to learn that my M67 revolver was also a frequent flyer.

No one asked, no one told.

One night I was down in Laredo when I became ill. At 3am I decided that I was going to drive back home, so I was down in the parking lot packing my truck for the journey.

At the far end of the parking lot was a great restaurant that had it's own entrance into the parking lot shared with the hotel. Suddenly a black SUV entered the lot through this entrance and sped directly for me. As the vehicle approached I pulled out my Beretta and held it down to my side and moved behind my truck for cover.

The SUV turned down my isle and continued toward me at a fast pace. The yard lighting was reflecting off of the windows and I was unable to see into the vehicle. But from where I was, things weren't looking good.

The vehicle stopped directly behind my truck. The driver's door flew open and a young man took two steps toward me. There was nothing in his hands. Suddenly he stopped and bent down to pick up something from the ground.

He told me that he had taken his family out to eat and when he got home he discovered his credit card was missing. The trip to the parking lot was just to look for where he might have lost it.

I smiled at him and told him that today was his lucky day. It was mine too.

During my long drive home I had time to reflect and evaluate. I had reached retirement age and I wasn't getting paid combat pay for working in a combat zone.

I put in my retirement papers the next day.

I started carrying a handgun at 15 on the home ranch. Got one of the first permits when my state authorized them in 1994.

I carry every day in places it's allowed and occasionally in places that are posted no weapons because the signs do not have the force of law. Government buildings are an exception, and the Post Office.

I've carried a wide variety of handguns, almost all pistols unless I'm in the woods. Then a Ruger Speed Six gets the call. My current EDC is Taurus GX4. Has been reliable, holds 11+1, conceals IWB with a light cover garment. I know several people including some ex LE that carry every day. No one makes a big deal of it.

I carry all day, every day, the only exception to that is to shower or to sleep. If my carry weapon is not on me it is on the countertop in the bathroom when I shower or the nightstand when I sleep.

If I am not at home I carry a Glock 19/26 or a P365 and always have either a 642 or a LCP Max as a BUG.

Everyone that knows me sometimes joke about me being paranoid, and maybe I am, but I've seen the bad our world has to offer, and the bad can materialize near or on you in an instant.

I'm at the point now I have my EDC on my like 97% of the time I leave the house. And it's very close by when I'm inside the house the vast majority of the time.

10 years ago it was probably like on 50% of the time I left the house. 20 years ago maybe 30% of the time.

30 years ago and back it was just when hunting or out in the woods/outback.

The times they're a changing!!

"Genuine Daily Carry People and Their Guns"

You're kidding, right?

I'm almost 72 and I've carried concealed guns since 1979 as a civilian. Before that I carried as a probation investigator for a NJ county. Before that I carried an M60 in the Marines (MOS 0331).

My friends in PA. who carry as I do, carry every day. If I go to the convenience store a mile away, I bring a gun.

Never mind what I carry. Who cares?

I can't believe a Texan doesn't think most people he knows actually carry. Your experiences baffle me.

Default Every Day

I suppose back in Georgia during the 80's I did not carry every day and would have fit Swede's description. I probably talked about it more than I actually carried. In NC, I worked at the Christian School and did not carry at school but strapped for the ride home until bedtime every day. Since we closed the school, it has been all day every day for me.

For the last four maybe five years I have carried a second gun inconsistently. A Smith model 457 or model 411 rides on my right hip in a pancake holster. On the left I have two (usually) spare mags which even out the weight. When I have the NY reload on that side too, then I have one spare mag sometimes two. None of this ever gets in the way of anything.

Just like the family Grandfather clock, which I literally do not hear chiming anymore, I cannot feel it on or off. A properly fitting curved belt is the key.

The NC safe storage law is serious business. However, if I have the weapon on my person in a proper holster, I am in full compliance with both the letter and spirit of the law.

Kind regards,
BrianD

I have carried pretty much daily for over 40 years. My carry gun has changed over that time, due to age and various infirmities. My principle carry these days is a Springfield EMP. My other usual carry gun is a 2" K-frame or Colt DS.

Been carrying since 1974. BHP for years then back to 1911’s with LW Commander which I still carry IWB if going to JAX or out of state sometimes in a Jack *** shoulder holster I bought from their store in Chicago back in 79. Locally carry a 640 IWB or in shoulder holster over a tee shirt covered by large Hawaiian or similar shirt. Have started carrying a 3” 65 or 2 1/2” 66 too, just depends of where I’m going.I do not leave the house without one. Around the house there are several in secure places.

The Poster's not wrong.

Most of the people who have responded to this discussion insisting that they carry daily are carrying snub nose revolvers, Ruger lcps, Glock 43s were mentioned, M&P shields and P365s.

I don't see very many people claiming they carry a full size 1911 everyday. I don't see anybody claiming to carry a full size CZ 75 everyday. I carried one of those for a while and I’ve got news for you, they get heavy. No 5906s. No M&P 9s.

I actually think my Glock 19 is one of the larger guns mentioned and even that I only carry when I'm wearing street clothes. When I go to the gym in an hour I will be carrying a Glock 26.

When on the job, on duty or off, I always carried one or more handgun, ranging from 4" N frames and Colt Commanders down to Colt Agents and Cobras. Since I pulled the pin I have consciously adopted a self-defense mindset rather than intervention and I have happily carried a J and a speed strip.

Since our local punks have taken to traveling in groups of 3 or more and shooting even the victims who follow the "don't resist" advice the media gives, as of this morning a Shield and an extra magazine go out the door with me. I know the 3 shot statistic, but I'd rather not be a statistic.
