I’m proud of all of you that carry daily. When I was younger, I tried to carry a 5” 1911 daily, but irregular was the best I could manage.

Now, I’m much closer to daily with my s&w340 or CW380.

My advice is don’t buy guns smaller than you want to carry…..because small is what is likely to be picked out.

I started carrying in college which led to some interesting interactions with the campus police.

I moved away for twenty years to Virginia and Maryland where, at that time, you had to know a judge or the head of the state police to get a carry permit.

Now that I'm back in Pennsylvania, I carry daily with few exceptions. I don't carry when I'm just lounging about the house but I usually have a gun or six within a few steps.

Poor wording on my part, I carried a HK USP 45 on the our ranch when I was 12, later on switching to a 1911 and then a few others over the years. I have been carrying the PX4 Compact for the last 8 years. I was born in 86 if that matters 😉

Normally I carry a Keltec 380, or a NAA 22 mag. But, my wife and I had problems with dogs on our lease in Georgia. Just from my personal experience, I might want to start carrying bear spray everyday. Its super entertaining, from what I have seen.

My choices have changed as I get older....used to carry my 6 inch 29 in a shoulder rig all the time when I wasn't at work. Nowadays its generally my Glockster 43 in a pocket, maybe my mousegun if the situation demands. I really like carrying my 3" Kimber 1911, and will carry it IWB if I'm wearing a jacket or overshirt. All depends on my mood. Spare mag goes in the watchpocket of my jeans (I shoot southpaw).

Sorry but it is hard for me to accept that you think it is ok to disrespect peoples property rights.
If a place is posted then you also have the option to not go there in the vast majority of cases.
I would guess you have rules for your property that you expect visitors to honor. Why should they honor your rights if you don't honor other peoples property rights?

You don't have to agree with me. I couldn't care less what you think. We all have nothing in this world except our life is the bottom line. No one has the right to tell me I don't have the right to defend my one and only life. My opinion. You want to give up that right, go right ahead.

I always carry something. The past 5 yrs or so it's a 3" 686+ in an IWB or a 3" GP100 in .44 Spl every day all day in a pancake holster. a Speed-strip in my pocket always and sometimes a speed loader in a single pouch on belt.

Been carrying like this since i was 21 yrs old. I'm 60 now. Not always the 686 or GP100 but in the past the others were a 1911 or a 9mm Sig at other times depending where i was going or my mood. I have a G17 and a G19 and they get frequent carry in a Milt Sparks SSII if I decide on an autoloader. I don't own a small auto, the G19 is the smallest I have. I do have an SP101 that I carry sometimes in right front pocket, but the 3" 686+ by far gets the most carry time.

You get used to it. It's not even noticeable if you wear the proper belt and pants. To me it's not that much more difficult to carry a full sized gun over a smaller one if you have the proper holster and belt/pants. I'm a big guy and done this for nearly 40 yrs now. It's just part of life.

The rules vary by state but I'm fortunate to live in a state where "no guns" signs have little legal validity. If discovered and asked to leave, it is defiant trespass to not leave.

Malls and stores have "no guns" signs to virtue signal to show that they are doing something to make the place safe. I'm sure that the gangsters hanging out at the mall obey those signs.

Some places I go, the law prohibits carrying in bars or carrying while consuming alcohol. I obey those prohibitions because I don't want to wind up in the lock-up even just overnight.

My nephew's house has a sign in the front yard that says, "No person is illegal" & "Trust the science." I don't carry there to respect their wishes.

Agreed. I do not carry at the Hospital and the bank, both places I have to go. Everywhere else that's posted I have a choice on and I choose not to go those places since I believe equally in their right to allow only those that they choose to allow to enter. If you don't want my business because I carry I simply find someone else who does and go there exclusively. All Rights Matter, not just mine.

You are looking at this one sided. Nobody is telling you that you don't have the right to defend yourself or that you can not carry a gun for that purpose. They simply do not want you on their property carrying a gun and that is their right, You still have the same right to carry and protect yourself , you are not being hindered in that regard . You are being limited as to where you can legally go under that one circumstance , that is their right. If you wish not to obey the sign simply find somewhere else to go that supports your right, that's what I do and I don't feel hindered in the least since I don't want to be anywhere I'm not wanted anyway.

Indiana is a shall issue state as well as Constitutional carry recently. I have no arrest record and have had a CC permit for about 60 yrs now. What makes someone think if they come in, lease a building, start up a smoke shop or convenience store and hang up a sign they can override state and Constitutional rights. Thugs love those signs and would probably pay for them. Yeah, they will be sure to obey them themselves Ever heard the old saying, better to be judged by twelve than carried by six

Been carrying since the mid 90’s. My primary carry pistol has been a Glock 29 since ‘04. AIWB has been my method with the 29.

Here lately I have switched to a M&P Shield Plus in a Safariland paddle holster and I am very pleased with how this combination is working for me.

The same right that allows you to tell visitors that they can't smoke in your home. Constitutional rights only restrict what the government can do. I don't need a warrant to look in your underwear drawer.

That's called property rights and your Constitutional rights do not void their rights. You have the right to not go anywhere you are not comfortable or anywhere you are not wanted. Your Constitutional rights do not give you the right to trespass which is essentially what you would be doing if you enter carrying a gun anywhere you see is posted telling you not to bring one in. You still do have the Constitutional right to carry the gun but if you come to my house and I tell you to leave it in the car , you must do that or leave. It is your choice and does in no way interfere with your Constitutional or Permitted right to carry a firearm. Cant state it any plainer and won't say any more on the subject. It's your life you live it as you see fit.

Yes I have heard that saying and in fact use it as part of my signature on several other forums.

We all have to do what we think is best for us and that's what I do. Way too much concern on here about being right and what others do. Concealed means concealed. I have never been "made" in 60 yrs of CC and asked to leave any place. Bottom line, I would rather be caught with my gun than caught without it. End of story on this silly thread.

Yes I have heard that saying and in fact use it as part of my signature on several other forums.
I appreciate your contribution Eddie S. and others. I thought you wouldn't mind my thoughts.
Your position bears two problems in my view.
First our position is that the 2nd amendment right is like any other first class right. For example, you may not be kept out of a business because you are black or because you are Catholic. As Justice Thomas said, the right to KABA is not a "second class right". A racist may keep a black man out of his home but not out of his business. I hope that makes sense. Could a leftist bakery refuse to bake and decorate a cake for the NRA's wedding to the GOA?
Second our position would hold that since at any time a lawsuit may be filed or a conflict may arise involving police, therefore the statement that only the government is constrained by the constitution does not apply in the real world.

Our position has problems as well IMHO. We can claim the right to go anywhere armed but until we do like Rosa Parks on the bus, and until we are upheld by the courts for doing so, this is all academic. I suspect you hold to an archaic or historic doctrine of property rights that is now obsolete, though it should not be. We hold to an obsolete doctrine of rights
as well. You will hear us say for example, "The Constitution is my carry permit!" This is an idealistic mindset, not the world we live in.

Kind Regards Brother and Patriot!

Not sure if this applies at all here but reading this brings back an old memory...Back in the late 70's a good friend of mine wanted to get himself a model 10, he got paid on Fridays so Friday afternoon we went to the LGS...only one around. He bought himself a brand new 4" nickle model 10 and a box of shells. We got back to his mama's house and poured over the new revolver.

That night we went to the club called the Pink Room over in Haysi VA and had a great time, too great actually as I don't remember coming back. Three of us were in the car, me, my buddy, and his cousin that drove and didn't really drink. I got dropped off first, then my buddy got back to his mama's house and started to open the glove box where his put his gun and his cousin said "man I looked, it ain't there, somebody must have stole it...yeah, "somebody"..

Anyway, I went back over there on Sat and hear this story. The gun box still stitting on the living room table anlong with the partial box of shells. I said man you need to call the cops and report this now while it's still fresh.

He called the VA State police and did that, I only heard his side of the call. I heard what he said and he was answering questions from the Trooper. Then I heard him say "they have a sign that says no weapons..well...you're right".

The Trooper asked him why did didn't carry the gun in when he told him about the sign, the Trooper told him that place ain't the safest place to be without a gun and to boot he would also still have his gun..

You'll never hear the same from them nowadays, but I always thought that was good advice at the time..

I like to press wild flowers
I put on women's clothing
And hang around in bars

Nowadays, one or both Seecamps in 32 and 380. I was going to pick up a 380 Bodyguard if they were offering a current rebate. Revolvers only so I’ll wait.

Four pages into this discussion and I still think the Original Poster is right.

The majority of people in this discussion who claim that they carry every single day are carrying smaller guns.

I don't think that's unreasonable given the number of (I hate using this word) high capacity micro nines on the market today.

The gun I most frequently carry is a Glock 26 with a 12-round magazine and a 15 round reload. I'm fairly certain that's more gun than I will ever need.

The place I most frequently go to is still Planet Fatness. Somebody told me that it's against their rules to carry in the gym but number one it's not posted and number two my granddaughter is the manager and she knows I carry and she hasn't told me not to.

I almost never see any place that's posted but I don't look very hard either. I will tell you that if I'm walking into some place and I see the sign as I'm walking in I am not going to turn around and go back to my car and disarm.

That seems like an incredibly bad idea to me. Going forward I wouldn't carry a gun to that location but I'm not going to do something that broadcasts that I'm carrying a gun.

After 10 years of carrying a Smith Bodyguard.380 I felt the need to up my capacity and caliber to a new Sig P365 due to my home town turning into a real ***** show the **** is everywhere. After weeks of dry fire drills and 400 rounds down the pipe I am very confident in this tool.
The BG.380 will remain as a bug 😃I love that little gun and shoot it well.

This is correct. Most of us who truly carry every single day carry a smaller gun. Not saying others don't carry 1911's or magnum L frames, but as someone who tried to carry a 686 for EDC it was a miserable experience.

The more you need to do to get the gun on you, the less likely it will be. With bigger guns comes:

1. Dressing around it, which sometimes is miserable in hot weather.

2. A custom belt/holster that you have to put on or take off perhaps a few times a day.

3. Discomfort from carrying the weight of it and in the car.

4. More likely to be discovered if you give a hug to someone, especially in a family where many are frightened or antagonistic towards guns as many in my family are, so for me this is a big one.

Pocket carry is simple, put the gun in your pocket and you are good to go. Takes less than 5 seconds, requires no belt, disappears in any clothes with pockets (including athletic shorts), and is so light I often have to remind myself to put it in the truck safe before I head in to teach.

Interesting thread. I'm not an LEO and even though I served in the Army for 24 years the only time I actually carried a weapon was during my one year in Vietnam. I got my concealed carry license as soon as it was available here in IL back in 2014, so in the last ten years I have carried virtually every day.

I don't carry a gun while in my house, and in fact the only two things in my pockets while at home are my smartphone and my clipped on pocket knife. If I am leaving the house for any reason I grab my keys, wallet and a handgun (almost always in a pocket holster, and either a 642 or a Ruger LC9s). On rare occasions I have "forgotten" to grab a pistol, and have been known to immediately return home to get one before proceeding with the rest of my day.

I don't really understand those who thought that there was enough need to buy a carry gun, and/or get licensed to carry, and then do not do so. I think that I am enough of a realist to understand that I cannot predict when and where I might need a gun to defend myself, so that justifies to me why I carry every day, everywhere.

I'm 73 and have carried ever since it was legal to carry in three different states I have lived in. If I am away from the house I always have a handgun with me and do carry most of the time when I am at home as well.

Guns of choice are a Beretta tomcat when I want to minimize and a Glock 43 the rest of the time. I carry either iwb or owb, just depends on how I want to dress that day. I also have other handguns both smaller larger in size and caliber, but I shoot these two well enough that I feel comfortable with carrying either one.

I always carry a flashlight and small pepper spray as well. Always like to have a less than lethal alternative available as well.

Well, I'll play - Either a J frame in the side pocket or a Glock at 12:00, all the time. I don't carry anything I'd hate to see in an evidence locker. Never a topic of conversation, even in the company of friendlies.
