One thing that hasn't been brought up was the guy's attitude in court. First off, when he was on the stand, he started joking with the jury. He showed absolutely no remorse and talked about how he was going to be back fixing up his house and riding motor-cross. Not only that, he kept modifying his story until it had so many holes in it that it "wouldn't hold hay," so to speak.
Bottom line, it was fairly obvious that if he had it to do over, he would've done the same thing.
Not having been there, I think the defendant's attitude played a big part in his sentencing.

Sounds to me like a trigger-happy maniac who was just looking for any excuse to blow somebody away.

I am not saying the guy doesn't desire what he got. I am saying a lot of others also do. When a drunk driver kills IT IS NOT AN "ACCIDENT". He didn't accidentally drink or accidentally get behind the wheel, he did both of his own free will, just like the guy who pointed the gun down the driveway and pulled the trigger. Do stupid stuff win stupid prizes is all fine and good except for the FACT that others often suffer from the stupid stuff.

During my LE career, I responded to one murder (backing the County). I can’t count the number of Vehicular Homicides I responded to. I have NO sympathy for drunk drivers (and I arrested every one I could), if I had my way they’d get the death penalty, the same as (I believe) all murderers deserve.

In Washington, and I think in plenty of other states, the penalty for what we call "vehicular homicide" is far lower than that for Murder 1/2. There is no excuse for that, especially when one considers that historically and as far as I know, still today, it is the most common form of criminal homicide. I am reasonably sure that the difference is in part due to class bias.
We lost a WSP trooper early Sunday morning to a drunk driver. He was on the side of the road and was deep trunked so hard that he died instantly. That is a staggering amount of force They had something like 43 cars lost to such collisions last year. While helping our criminal division last year, I reviewed a case in which an impaired driver in a passenger vehicle hit a slow moving semi on a grade so hard the axle bolts on the trailer were broken. These are not outliers. They are commonplace.

I've often wondered why the progressives always talk about 'gun violence' but never talk about 'vehicle violence.'
Call both what they are - crime violence.

Because "they" want to ban guns, not cars.

Mayberry? I worked in a city that had a high crime rate and responded to or wrote the initial report on an average of 10 murders a year for 23 years.

Basic gun safety rule:
Know your target and what is beyond before you shoot.

Close. I worked most of my career in a region that was populated by a lot of armed citizens. It was an honor to serve them.

Well to be honest I hope its over, but I followed it and with all the objections the defense attorney made he will undoubtedly give it a good try.
From the stupid shooting to the attorneys actions this has been a Charlie Foxtrot. I wish it was over and let the grieving parents and friends try to gain some semblance of normalcy.
As for betting no way!-

Sadly far to many areas have a “ injustice system”, lame DAs,LEOs that just don’t care from all the Chief’s suggestion for them to “ look the other way”,sorry judges and lame woke prosecutors.

Yes and yes. Mr Woods occasionally posts that on "X" as a reminder to those new to firearms.

I like James Woods as an actor. I generally agree with what he has to say. I just was saying he was quoting Cooper, they were not particularly his own thoughts. Do need more like him to speak up, even though I believe his career has taken some hits in his chosen profession from the other more liberal folks there.

Hear hear ! Went to many horrific accidents with fatalities caused by drunks, I have no sympathy for them. There is zero excuse.
