Renewed My FL CWL……
…….today. Made an appointment last week for 1000 hours today at the regional office in Jacksonville. Arrived there at 0952. I was taken right in, and was back in my truck, renewed CWL in my wallet, by 1003…… pretty good service I’d say. I’m good for another seven years….

Virginia went to mail-in renewals many years ago. Before that, renewals had to be in-person at the clerk of the court's office and when VA first became a "shall issue" state, renewals required another background check with finger printing. We have advanced a little, although not without a fight and the fight continues.

In Maine if you live in a town with a full time Police Department you have to renew through the local Dept. The last time I renewed mine it took months and countless phone calls before I finally got my renewal. If you live in a town without a full time force you can do it by mail through the state and it's my understanding that it goes quick and smooth.

Well, while I had a good and fast experience renewing my Florida CWL in person, my wife had the opposite last year doing it on line. Her CWL was to expire in mid-April …..she started the on-line process in Jan. Finally got her renewed CWL one week before the old one expired. Took almost three months.

I have a non resident Florida permit that I renewed back in September. Nonresidents have to supply new set of prints and photo, which was kind of a pain in the butt. But once I mailed it to Tallahassee I got it back the same week. Not to bad I’d say.

I renewed my out of state Fl. Permit while I was in Fl. This is a couple years ago. They still had to mail it to me in Ohio. It was in Ohio before I was. It’s hard to get my fingerprints so I wanted to do it in person. Past experience caused me to send second print cards. I keep my Ohio permit and Florida permit renewed. I don’t care if there is constructional carry. If you get stopped by Police and you have a permit, the know you had some kind of instruction and just didn’t stick a gun in your pocket.

But now you're allowed to stick a gun in your pocket, no questions asked. But there are still advantages to having a CWFL. I renewed in person last summer. Took all of 15 minutes. Most of that was figuring out the terminal they sit you at.

Seems to get easier each time...I got my first CHL in 1996 after taking the 10 hour class in 1995, and then waiting for the initial backlog to clear out...First renewal had a four hour course...Now it's all online with no new photos or prints...My current license expires in 2027... ...Ben

Movement in the correct direction, I'd say.

I recently did my Florida license online and it came in the mail about a week later. It’s good for reciprocity, and gun purchases without a 3 day wait.

I keep my Ohio Permit so I don't have to disarm when in surrounding states. Last October at Delaware County Sherrif's office but the jail had a minor disturbance, so ran 15 minutes late. They now mail the new permit to you, as of 4 years ago you had to pick it up in person.

For years NY State was great. Permit was good until revoked. No expiration. Our permits list each gun and serial number. Go buy gun list it on permit. Now we have to recertify permits every 5 yrs. Simply go online and verify all guns and serial numbers. Semi auto rifle endorsements are added to permit but those are not listed.

I had a hard time with my Florida non-resident. They couldn't find the prints I mailed in for a long time. However, in the end, I got renewed.
