Cool I trained at Gunfight Academy! Where did you train?

I see a lot of folks online these days talking about how seriously they take their personal protection, yet few of them are actually bold enough to list their credentials and share where — if anywhere — they've trained.

I personally received firearms training under the tutelage of the legendary Colonel Jeb Cooter of Gunfight Academy!

I trained at Gunfight Academy! Where did you train?-colonel_cooter-jpg

Yes, out of recognition for my skills, the man, the myth, the legend, the Colonel himself taught me his Top Secret blend of 11 propellants and primers to make the ultimate thunder handloads, along with a special technique which makes shots more accurate known as Kentucky Fried Windage.

It was expensive training, but it was worth it to receive hands-on training from such an esteemed practitioner of the art of combat, especially now that he seems to have retired, seeing as he no longer answers his phone or e-mails, the address to his dojo leads to a vacant lot, and his profiles across all social networking sites are either gone or inactive.

Obviously, being a student of the esteemed Colonel, I am a staunch advocate for the use of .40 Swift n' Wild, (originally dubbed .40 Super Cooter) a cartridge which he helped develop for the FDA when they discovered that 10mm Auto had a little too much spice and therefore was unsafe for human consumption.
I know, I know... The FDA says 9mm performs exactly the same as .40 S&W in their JELL-O Mold Testing, but I say there's always room for improvement, and .40 S&W represents that improvement. After all, the 9mm failed to stop the Hamburgler and Grimace when they attempted to rob a certain McDonald's back in 1986, yet both of those nefarious mascots disappeared during the height of .40 S&W's popularity! Coincidence? I think not!

That's why whenever somebody argues with me on something, I just look 'em straight in the eye and say; "Back off, man... I trained at Gunfight Academy!"

Is he from Kentucky?
He does resemble that other well known Kantuck Kernal,
Col. Sanders.

I trained at the original Taekwondo academy of the South Bronx, and was awarded my 5th degree black belt at age 10 in 1911.
No need for firearms.
True story.

Alas, as I said, he seems to have retired shortly after my online training course had concluded, as he stopped responding to my calls, texts, tweets and e-mails, then when I looked up the address to his Dojo online it lead to a vacant lot somewhere in New Jersey.

It's a shame too because I could tell that the man had a lot of secrets he had yet to reveal about himself, such as what branch of the military he served in, how he developed his unique method of shooting a pistol sideways, why he was so distrustful towards Law Enforcement that he kept testing me to make sure that I wasn't a policeman, and how he had gained special authorization to sell firearms out of the trunk of his car?

So many questions I had left to ask him...

My Grandfather taught me the basics. Then I refined them at the local city dump....anything there was fair game (including snakes and rats).

A web search for a writeup called "Colonels of Truth" at damninteresting dot com is well worth a read. Sanders comes out shooting in the first paragraph as I recall. The rest of his story is likewise extra entertaining.

Foundational trading was through the NRA followed by FLETC and then the American Small Arms Academy with the late Chuck Taylor as well as NRA law enforcement instructor training and Submachine gun instructor training through the NRA.

Lots of gunfighting aspirants on Internet forums and I'm sure you've stirred their visions. Many of them are looking for Colonel Cooter's phone number at this moment...

Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to close threads, nor reopen them at a later time.

Besides, it suits my new style persona anyway now that I've decided to stop taking things so seriously.

I too was well trained at the infamous (i.e. MORE than famous) American Shootgood School (usually referred to by its acronym) in using my Smiff & Weston .45 Magnum with built in silencer, dum-dum bullets, and of course the shoulder thing that goes up.

Is the Colonel still pushing clucked and plucked as the only way to carry a 1911?

This post reminded me of my former next door neighbor who used to come over to talk to me about guns and would go on and on about his "Winchester .45 Scoped Magnum Revolver".

No matter how many opportunities I gave him to back out of that statement, maybe do a bit of research to see if the firearm he claimed to own even existed, he just kept right on at it. I must have asked him, "Are you sure about that?" on at least five separate occasions in attempt to subtly hint that no such thing existed, but he was adamant about it and even started to get impatient with me over it, so I just let him keep going with it.

Default Training

Blackwater. Defensive Pistol 1. 2500 rounds/1 week. Glock 27 with full power ammo (train like you would fight). The ole Glock trigger finger pinch got to me by Wednesday, was doing the double wrap band aid deal to stop the blood seepage from behind my finger nail.

Default I trained at Gunfight Academy! Where did you train?

Sitting on top of one of the brick columns framing the gate at my grandfather's far. Shooting moving targets (ie cows being herded down the road) in the butt with my Daisy Red Ryder until my grandfather saw me and like to wear my backside out. Think I was around 6-7 at the time. Later graduated to the old burnt out 55 gallon drum in the pasture with my .22. Work past that is, unfortunately, still classified.

I desired to train at Granny Moses Roadside Oppossum Academy.
But Granny felt my skills were lacking and denied my application.

Default Shooting training.

My shooting training began when I was about 10 years old shooting at bats that came out of the coal banks, with my Winchester 62 rifle. I continued shooting and hunting into my teen years. After I got hired by a local PD and graduated from class 228 at the Philadelphia police academy. I later went to their stake out school, then on to graduate from the FBI National academy class 156. Over the years I went to Camp Perry and several other training schools. They were all fun. At 78 years of age I still qualify every year.

Default Spelling?

I lived 35 years in south and central Arizona and always thought it was Gun(S)ight Academy. I never learned how to spell in French either.
