Just aquired a SW1911Sc Commander size 1911.

Any suggestions on:

IWB, paddle, crossdraw, shoulder, backpacking.

I like to have multiple holsters for each of my weapons, as I can holster per application. winter & summer CC, driving, hiking, range OC etc. I have no preference in material.

Thanks

Well, just about every holster ever made has been made for the 1911. Any quality holster maker will list several styles to fit your gun. Just google "1911 holster" or pick some companies and check out their sites and offerings. You'll come up with enough hits to keep you busy for a while.

I see that you have no preference in materials. Personally, I find anything less than top quality vegetable-tanned cowhide from a reputable tannery to be less than satisfactory. Maybe I'm too much of a traditionalist?

Anyway, I can help with IWB, OWB, and shoulder holster styles. If interested, click on my username to display e-mail address, contact me and share your needs and preferences. I will respond with photos, options, and prices.

As you are "Soon2bLEO", maybe an old retired copper can provide some useful suggestions.

I've got a stainless SW1911Sc Commander 1911 that I truly love. Here's my suggestions:

IWB - Milt Sparks Versa Max II. Check Lightning Arms and Top Gun Supply as they do stock Milt Sparks and may have them.

Paddle - Mitch Rosen snap loop OWB holster from Dillon. I've since abbandoned paddle holsters as I have found snap loop OWB holsters to be just a sconvenient to get on and off and a whole lot more comfortable.

Crossdraw - I don't carry my 1911's in a cross draw, but I do occasionally carry my Sig 239 in one. It is a Bell Charter Oak with a butt forward can't and snap loops. I only use it for long distance road trips. I've found strong side carry to be much more concealable.

Shoulder - Galco Miami Classic

Backpacking - Wilderness Safepacker. Doesn't really look like a holster and can easily be strapped onto the hip belt of my pack.

Hope this helps.

First, any holster made for a 4.25 Commander 1911 will work. Holsters are a very personal thing as what one person considers the "Gold Standard" is absolute junk to the next. It's important that before you spend good money on a holster that you do your homework. For most purposes a good IWB rig and a Pancake type OWB will suffice but there are so many makers and types so this is where the homework comes in and don't forget a good belt is the most important part of a carry system. Buying a $100 holster and putting it on a $20 belt will make that holster act and work like a $20 one. Just go on google and type in "1911 Commander Holsters" and you will get many, many pages of info. FWIW, buy the best you can afford, the best names in Leather are Alessi, Milt Sparks, Nossar, 5Shot and Bulman and these will take probabaly six months or more from the time you order till delivery. For kydex, Raven, BladeTech and Comp-tac are good ones and usually can deliver in a few weeks. My suggestion is order what you really want and buy a kydex or used leather one to see you thru till it's delivered. Premium holsters demand and get top dollar and are very easy to sell so if you get one you don't like your not going to loose any $$. Personally, I find kydex very uncomfortable as it doesn't flex with your bodies movements and it also is hard on a guns finish so my recommendation is to get leather especially if this is a carry or ccw weapon, if not kydex will suffice. Good luck, happy reading and you bought yourself a great gun!! BTW, heres a pic of my favorite commander rig made by my good friend Alex Nossar.

Gotta agree with torrejon224. It's a very personal thing as we are all built a little different and have different preferences. I like leather and dislike kydex, purely personal as both work. I prefer plain Jane leather for daily carry over exotic trimmings, again purely personal taste.

I like both the K&D IWB and OWB offerings and have several of his offerings. I equally like Andrews Leather McDaniel II's for IWB and have a Monarch shoulder holster from him. All these get used! It's very easy to end up with a collection as there are so many good offerings out there!

Thanks all for the great advice and recommendations.
I have an Alessi ankle rig for my 37, Alessi products are indeed top notch.

May Lou rest in piece. If you didn't Lou passed this past February.

FWIW, Lou's shop is still up and running with past employees keeping it alive. They are taking orders but by mail ONLY, no calls, e-mails, etc and are currently trying to catch up on my dear friend Lou's backlog. Here is the info:
